We all start filing complaints everywhere we can. BBB. Facebook. This video is great to expose them. Heck next time I am in the dealership I will talk to people looking at new cars and inform them.
Toyota needs to be shamed 24/7 what kind of bullshit is that and what moron in what board-room thought that was a great idea!!!?? yea that'll ingratiate the company to the customer-base, sure! the people will be just fine with FOREVER paying for their cars -- OUTRAGEOUS is an understatement to what toyota is doing
I have a 2019 Camry, and I have to get the subscription so my keyfob will do remote start. The key fob range is terrible. 25 feet max. So I use the app a lot. I too live in AZ and have to cool the car. So much better. Thanks for the video.
@@kdaltexjust bought an Avalon XSE still doing research on this but is the subscription still a thing. Read comments about pressing lock 3x hold on third but doesn’t work.
Yeah and they went ahead and made it $15 a month but you have to either package it with their drive connect navigation or a music subscription. Ridiculous.
I literally turned down the new toyota corolla cross for this exact reason and went with honda hrv instead, I liked the toyota better but I won’t support this kind of practices. I know toyota thinks not enough people care but at least I did and they lost a sell
I recently bought a used 2021 Highlander. Although it is true at some point down the road the subscription will kick in (if I choose to pay for it) I'm good for at least another 7 years. There are several subscriptions you can sign up for but the one called "Service Connect" is good for 10 years at no cost. I had to enable that subscription on my Toyota smart phone app and then my remote start began to work. Remote start isn't a deal breaker for me but just a nice to have to warm or cool down a car before I leave. To me the reliability of the Toyota products outweigh that one downside. I understand BMW wants to charge a subscription for use of the seat warmer. Imagine paying BMW prices for a car, getting something less reliable than a Toyota and then having them charge you to use a feature like a seat warmer. Sad that manufactures are starting to do this stuff but I suspect this is just the start and all of them will eventually go down this path. What's next, you have to pay a subscription for the car to "start"?
Just sold my 2017 Lexus RX for this very reason. They didn't tell us about a fee was needed when we bought it new. Had "free" connect for 1 year. Then, we were told we needed the yearly fee. Really? A fee to use a feature I bought & paid for? I then vowed to never buy a Toyota again!
Hyundai charges for remote start. It’s currently free for the first three years on new purchases, and secondary purchases in the first three years don’t seem to receive it.
Interesting. I've owned Hyundai's for 20 years. I've never been billed for remote start. Are you talking about the Bluelink? The remote start on the remote will still work after the Bluelink expires.
@@LocksmithRecommended I have a 2020 Rav4 Hybrid Limited here in Canada. It's almost 2 years old now. The app stopped working at the one year mark but the remote start still works on the fob, but for how long, 3 or 10 years maybe. As for supply chain issues. I was in my dealer the other day and the wait time for Rav4 Prime is now a whopping 2 years with a $1000 dollar non refundable deposit. This maybe my last Toyota. Car company's had better get their acts together and start producing more vehicles. Toyota pushed the Rav4 Prime to consumers but can't deliver since they only have 1 plant in Japan making them. Total failure of their supply chain.
I'm so bummed, I really wanted this car, I've been looking for just the right one for 6 months now, and was planning to spend $45,000.00 on a Rav4 Hybrid limited, until i found out about the subscription fee's for the app, that allows you to remote start your car, what a load of BS. No Thanks, I'll look else where
And now every Toyota car dealership can make a ton of extra money by selling you a normal remote starter that works in a normal way and doesn't require an app where they're trying to rip you off with extra payments.
We just bought a 25 Highlander. It's very confusing, but found out that if you allow trial subscriptions, the remote start with both the app and the Key Fob. Found this out on another RUclips video.
My opinion is uts highway robbery. I think when they sale a vehicle, costing as much as they are charging, there should be no fees what so ever as add ons. It's like buying a burger and having to pay for every byte taken. In addition, if you want the cheese package, that cost you extra. But if you don't want the pickles in the basic oackage, you still must pay for them. There is also a beacon package that would cost you more if you want that package. In the end, it's just a burger. I think it's BS and a class action is needed to expose all these crazy hidden IT costs that are not explained up front. They make you pay for a car with the features that you can not use because you do not want to pay for that part of the service, but the extended packages come with the features, so your forced to buy all the features then pay to use some of those features. That is insulting enough. Car dealers are bad about exploiting IT services in auto sales. Toyota will insult too many buyers so they will end up one time customers with their story to tell their friends. Sadly, I thought Toyota was a better company than that. Maybe their change in CEO is their problem. Hope they wake up.
Besides what's noted here in the video can anyone please explain to me the logic in limiting remote start ups to only 2 times before having to physically open/close a door to reset the car so that you then have 2 times of remote starting once again???
I was about to buy 2024 Toyota Highlander Limited but I found out that they charge month/yearly subscription for keeping remote start (even though after ten years) that consider sneaky business. Not only that if any reason they don't like you than they can stop your car whenever they want and top of that they can monitor your each and every move and share with anybody they want.
Once the free subscription ended, I can't even play my music on my phone. You have to plug in your phone into one of the USB chargers to play your music.
In 2023 Toyota's remote connecti app only works when you have purchased premium versions of the Infotainment system. Even worse, at least for some markets like Mexico, because there is no way to purchase one of those systems and there is no service. In other words, you cannot have that function or all the others associated with the app.
Man its Annoying As Hell that you have to Be able to Pay for Such Services When you a Loyal Customer of Toyota and wanna Buy their Car For Reliability yet can't Give the Features of the Car or the App for free and contacting Toyota From your Car Utter Bull****...
I’ll tell everyone in the barbershop what Toyota is doing. I guess I’ll just have to go pre start my new Tacoma when/if I need to after my free year of connect is up. It’s a shame a trusted company like Toyota is starting to take their loyal customers for granted. You treat us consumers like zealots we will drop u like trash.
That sucks! But, a lot of things are now such that you really don't own things. I used to have a Q-See hardwired system (real-time). The company went under and the remote app stopped working. If ANY company decides to ....well you get it. You should list those companies. Microsoft, Arlo, Chamberlin, etc can disable your device whenever it connects to a Wi-Fi. You only thought you owned it. 😠
We have a 21 Venza and I have received the “bill” to keep the app going. It was a Year old and I will have to test the remote for it to warm or cool the car. Pissed me off. Also the Toyota care is only good to 26k not the warranty period. Toyota thinks they can make more money off us. I will be looking for an aftermarket starter if this is true. I also saw a chart that if you have higher trim levels the app does not have a fee. Apparently that is not true since we have a Limited.

Toyota is getting a ton of blow back on this. They may not do this, only because of all the negativity about this.

You can still use key fob to remote start once app subscription expires

For me i want that app i live MN during winter here in mn is very cold i may left my car doors open coz i am waiting new rave4 xle prime
If they bundled that feature into some sort of road side assistance and emergency single push button response then it might be worth it.
Are they going to start charging for other things like cruise control - power windows ?

Does 2023 Hyundai Tucson do this too?
This is specific to Toyota.
Current Tucson models that have Bluelink have the remote start feature on the key fob.
So realistically, the only bypasses are get the stupid monthly subscription or just get an aftermarket.
They can keep it!! I’m not paying for that
