I've got one coming in two weeks, nice to hear everyone seems to like it a lot on the reviews so far. Behringer has a 1073DPX clone coming, the 1273, I hope that one is just as amazing for 640 euro. Love to hear the comparison with the real deal, so I subscribed. Great channel 🤟🏼
33609 is meant to be a buss compressor and a mastering compressor, hence a limiter. Sounds a lot better on the full mix than on the drums. I think your snare was way too high in the mix. The compressor isn't fast enough to catch super loud snares, which threw off the overall effect of the hardware compressor.
Well, I’m going to shoot it out against the real one. So I’ll try out some of the different release modes on some different source material and see how it fares!
Cool video. And you've got a the Neve coming over for s direct comparison. Subscribed. 😎 As far as plugins of this one, have you tried the Arturia version? The sidechain lets you dial in a fairly convincing Neve 33609 sound.... At least for a plugin. And I'm not a plugin basher at all
I really like that Neve plugin especially with the snare it just has more punch and snap, with the attack and release set right to a song that Neve has it for me.
@@OliverShillito I'm curious how long it would last. Maybe that's just how it feels and nothing will happen. I'm curious. And 1273 clone. I like also Drawmer (1U format 2 channels)...prices are ok.
Thanks for making this video but could you test the auto release modes since just using 100 milliseconds is just peak shaving and the 33609 and other diode bridge compressors were built for program audio leveling not really aggressive compression.
I could do that but I’ve found that Access Analogue doesn’t sound right to me. Not sure if the audio gets compressed or something but I used to used their SSL Fusion and once I’d bought my own, it sounded totally different! I have however got a Neve arriving in the post tomorrow for said comparison. So watch this space!
@@OliverShillito nice then! That means I can use it on different mono tracks all at once, and stereo too for bus compression. This is so great! Their sound also amazing for its price range 😁
You like the way the h/w chewed up the highend more? All I had to do was listen to the OHs from that drum buss and I knew it was what I was expecting it to be. RIGHT up there with WARN Audio Pultec nonsense lol.
At the expense of the high end. As I thought it would end up like, typical lipstick on a pig we see and hear from Behranger and even WARM. Dude even looked like he wanted to like the h/w more toggling back and forth and I'm sure it's because of the fact that the plugin retained the high end where the Beranger just ate it.
Hi there nice review. What’s the deal on the availability in Uk ? Does anyone know in the comments. I’ve tried a few shops and I can’t get next day delivery 😢. Really 🤔 one shop says till November another one says 2 wks . Anyone with a link for next day delivery please send 🫡. Cheers
As far as I am aware it’s out of stock literally everywhere! Not even Thomann have them in stock at the moment! I guess you’d just need to pre-order one and wait it out!
I’ve found the difference between fast and slow fairly minimal so it doesn’t make a huge difference really even if I did forget to change the Behringer. Fast is 3ms and slow is 6ms, so there isn’t much in it!
What sucks the most is that even if it sounded better than the Neve unfortunately clients only know few things about audio gear and one of them is that behringer is not good and cheap. That is the hurdle they face.
I can't agree. Your mind would like the hardware Behr.. to sound better now that you've bought it. But I have to say that in this case the software Neve sounds better, punchier. Behringer muddied the low mids. As I have a Neve 33609 in my studio and I compared it with the UAD plugin, I can say that the plugin is very close to the original and we can consider it as a reference.
I wouldn’t say that has influenced me. It’s out of stock everywhere so I could just as easily sell it. However I do have a neve on the way also to shoot it out against so let’s see how it fares!
I’d hazard a guess that the patent on the 33609 has ran out. There are several companies now making 33609 clones. Audioscape are due to release one as well soon!
I have expensive gear, however my first piece of Behringer was a condenser microphone 20 years back and I was impressed. Since then I own plenty of Behringer gear, I can care less what someone else says how they hate Behringer.
@@QuantizStudioRecords their synths do not match up with my Moogs and Oberheims. Nor their outboard gear with my Neve, SSL and other outboard gear. And so on.... I'm so closed-minded I even eat my hot dogs sideways.
Fanatastic Video, Ollie ! yes the knobs seemed like you were screwing in RoboCop's Helmet lol
They truly feel dreadful.

Thank you! You will be pleasantly surprised. I am just shooting the second video now. That’s all I am saying.
Im obsessed with bus comps, so this is a must buy for me ❤

Great video! I never liked the UAD 33609 plugin ... always sounded a bit flat to me. But I'm really pleasantly surprised by the Behringer!
So am I so far. For a device a cheap as it is, even if it isn’t identical to a Neve. It’s still a great sounding compressor!
Cool video. And you've got a the Neve coming over for s direct comparison. Subscribed. 😎

I haven’t actually. I’m fairly sure Antelope make one too but I need to refresh myself on their plugin suite!
Espen Kraft made exactly the same complaint about the knobs being WAY too stiff.
A knob even broke off on his.
Yeah, they are total garbage.
I really like that Neve plugin especially with the snare it just has more punch and snap, with the attack and release set right to a song that Neve has it for me.
Fair! We’ll see how it stacks up against a real one soon!
You should consider some blind comparations once you have the Neve, that would be super interesting
Working on that very plan!
Do you think the knobs will break in with time?
Thanks for video btw
Well to be honest. They feel more like they will break in time. Not break in but I’ll keep you posted as I use it more!
@@OliverShillito that’s really good to know. hope they correct this in future iterations of this compressor. thanks again
In what sense.....the knobs are plastic?
Not even that. Plastic AND shit. They feel like they are going to snap off at any given time n

Sure thing. I’ll test the other release modes when I do the hardware comparison!
@@OliverShillito Thanks Cheers!!!!
Finally, a demo on something other than a full song.
how hard you think it would be too switch out the knobs/pots?
Not very! Haha they don’t feel particularly on!
Hi, I want one of these, but I can't find one. Noone has this in stock. where did you get yours? thanks,Luke
I got lucky and found one brand new on eBay! They are out of stock everywhere until a couple of months time I think!
Hey Ollie can you use ‘access analog’ to do a solid comparison against a genuine Neve? Access analog is only like $10 to use the Neve
I could do that but I’ve found that Access Analogue doesn’t sound right to me. Not sure if the audio gets compressed or something but I used to used their SSL Fusion and once I’d bought my own, it sounded totally different! @@OliverShillito can you post a blind test on slutz once you get the Neve? Exciting
I’ll look into it!
Can we use it deliberately as a single mono channel processing, for example for vocal? Although it has the name "Stereo Bus Compressor"
It can be used as dual mono and has two separate sets of controls so there’s nothing stopping you!
@@OliverShillito nice then! That means I can use it on different mono tracks all at once, and stereo too for bus compression. This is so great!
Their sound also amazing for its price range 😁
@@ericofelix2005this also means you can run each channel series into each other. Which is fun to crush down drum buses.
Song in the middle awesome 😮
Thanks for the review. btw: when your mic is on, there's a hum...
Yes I’m aware. Sorry about that. Will fix it for future videos! Definitely left the air conditioner on by mistake 😂

the voice over mic has this hum going , thankfully it gets cut off when the "daw" audio plays
It does. Sorry about that. I realised after the fact that I’d left my air conditioner on and you can hear it 😂
hardware is adding depth as always

can you explain the different setting of slow and fast attack
on the two channels in the first 14.35 minutes?
I’ve found the difference between fast and slow fairly minimal so it doesn’t make a huge difference really even if I did forget to change the Behringer. Fast is 3ms and slow is 6ms, so there isn’t much in it!

mono/stereo swith change anything ? thanks
I tried both but it’s subtle if I’m being honest
hardware wins over the plugin.... Biiig time.
Yeah I think so too!
why is the Audioscape level needle moving?
It was on the bass track!
I just tested one of these, the only thing that it has in common with the original units is that you need electicity to turn it on...
I prefer a slower attack on drums to prevent the spitty thing.

Hardware won hands down!

The hardware sound better 🎧
Beutiful
hardware win more thickness . beef lowend .
I bow down to the rip off king because the rip off king rules.
Behringer should of let Klark Teknik make this instead.

I dont trust anything by Behringer. And no one will change my mind.

That sounds nothing like a 33609. Not a bad comp but way too pricey, $200 tops.
Well I guess I’ll find out tomorrow! I’ve got a Neve on the way to find out!
@@OliverShillito ooo waiting for that
