Awesome... of course u didnt list what tools ya used... most of us dont have the tools... LOL... so what is the machine u used to make the the cut out letters... and the table saw that has a custom table on it. How do u do it. Thanks if ya can help. Appreciate your work n help
Thanks for the compliment, and Spain is a beautiful country. It looks like you have some cool stuff on your channel too, so I'm looking forward to watching your videos.
I used a "Minwax Polyshades Aerosol" spray. I was just experimenting with a different finish. The finish was disappointing because it looked exactly the same as a simple teak oil finish, so I don't think I'll use the spray again.
from the video, it looked great. always good to seal the wood to help it last. I like the spray to keep hands clean. i've used gloves, but you feel less and the result might not be as good. So the spray was a good idea...
Hey @Doug Royal ! I have a question for you. Do you attach 12 volts directly to the led strip? Isn't it overkill? Or do you use some kind of electric scheme to do it? I would really like to know :)
I'm not sure how to answer this question because the prices can vary pretty dramatically. All my tools are low to middle-quality hobbyist tools. I found some of my tools damaged, so I got a great deal on them. Others I bought used. If you have to buy them new, they'd be pretty expensive. The nicest tools I own are the ones I inherited from my grandpa. For this project, I used a table saw, planer, and CNC machine. The CNC machine could be replaced by a scroll saw, and that would be significantly less expensive.
Hi Doug, I like your project. I have the x carve and recently got it. I was wondering what software you use to send your files to your machine? Is it universal g code or something of the sort?
I also recommend you frost the face of the acrylic too. I didn't do that on the first couple I made and I wasn't too happy with how bright the LEDs were. I've tried two techniques for frosting the acrylic and I was happy with both techniques. First, simply use a "Frosted Glass" spray paint. Second, all the acrylic I've ever bought has a thin plastic cover on it, so if you can find acrylic where the plastic cover is translucent white, then just buy that and leave the plastic on :) That's what I did to defuse the light on the back of the kid that's trapped in my giant spider Halloween display.
I couldn't find the original file, but I think it was a standard serif font. Liberation Serif ships with Fedora so that's probably what I used. I think I used a 6mm bit in my CNC machine, so the serifs are more round than normal.
I've started an Etsy shop. Are you wanting these for Christmas? If so, I'm not sure they'll be there on time. It takes about three days to finish one (because the finish has to dry between coats). I could get them in the mail by Friday, but I'm worried that might not leave enough time for them to get to you by Christmas. Email me if you want to chat: youtube@dougroyal.com Here's the Etsy shop I started: www.etsy.com/listing/578916587/custom-oak-led-nightlight
Me: lets do it, it's so cool!
1:59 CJ: oh shit, here we go again!
Do you know the name of the machine plz ?
My Name is Warren, this was great and cheered me up thanks bro :)
I think you are an absolute genius and a craftsman !
Wow! That's quite a compliment. Thanks for the kind words.

Show ,congratulations a great video thank you.🇧🇷🤝🏾
Curious as to what sort of Hardware that is you were using in the corners
Nice job. Did u cut a slot and insert the led strip in facing up?
Yep. I didn't get any good video of that part, so it's not as clear as I'd like it too be.
What kind of sprayed u have used ...?? And for why...??
I used a "Minwax Polyshades Aerosol" spray. I was just experimenting with a different finish. The finish was disappointing because it looked exactly the same as a simple teak oil finish, so I don't think I'll use the spray again.

I happened to see this video today and can you help me with the model of the milling/cutting machine you used
You can arrest the top signage light with brown vinyl or grey vinyl
Looks great, I done this on my son's pinewood derby car. How much you charge to route a name ado I can build one
I've never charged for my work. This is just a hobby, so everything I make usually ends up as a gift to a friend or someone in my family.
Excellent job! I love it, congratulations
Does anybody know what he used to carve the name out? What tool or machine is that????
Hey @Doug Royal ! I have a question for you. Do you attach 12 volts directly to the led strip? Isn't it overkill? Or do you use some kind of electric scheme to do it? I would really like to know :)
Directly, it's not overkill as the LED strip is designed to run on 12 volts.
Nice video.. Do you have any recommendation of cnc machine under $1000?
Unfortunately, no. This is the first CNC machine I've ever owned so I don't have any way to compare it to others.
What cnc machine do use here?
A Shapeoko 3. It costs just over $1000

Friend what about the cost for the tools you used.

How did you trace the text smoothly? Is it acomplex tool ?
Hi, this is a nice video. What is your name machine?

Nice music 🎶😊
Hi Doug, I like your project. I have the x carve and recently got it. I was wondering what software you use to send your files to your machine? Is it universal g code or something of the sort?
I use Fusion 360 to build the models, tool paths, and to generate the gcode.
I use bCNC to control my CNC machine.

Doug Royal Awesome. Thanks a lot for the quick reply. It helps a lot.
Nice LED sign!
Excellent work!
Nice job!
Did you use tabs while carving for the "islands" in the letters?
0:07 yes
Nice - Nicely done.... Would it be better if it was solar powered????
Hey, did you have to polish the edge of the acrylic?
I didn't polish the acrylic. The "frosted" edge that the table saw leaves helps defuse the otherwise sharp LED light.
Doug Royal brilliant thanks, I am making something like this to use as a house sign and wasn’t sure should I polish the edge or not
I also recommend you frost the face of the acrylic too. I didn't do that on the first couple I made and I wasn't too happy with how bright the LEDs were. I've tried two techniques for frosting the acrylic and I was happy with both techniques. First, simply use a "Frosted Glass" spray paint. Doug Royal thanks very much for the tips, will definitely try that out
You could use a 180 or 220 grit sandpaper too.
What font did you use to make the sign?
Good diy ..👍👍👍
Love your work

Hi there,
can u maby tell me what kind of type of font u have use ?
I couldn't find the original file, but I think it was a standard serif font. Liberation Serif ships with Fedora so that's probably what I used. I think I used a 6mm bit in my CNC machine, so the serifs are more round than normal.
