That gold blacktop definitely reminds me of an old Smokey Yunick race car like his old Chevrolet cars with the Gold top black bottom and red pinstripe.
I would be shocked if Gibson does not get a cease and desist. I can paint my delivery truck "Cargo Brown" but if it's close enough to UPS brown that the average person can't distinguish then I'm getting a letter. DiMarzio has defended their trademark very, very well in court and I don't expect them to stop even with Gibson. The shade is not that different at all here, and while trademark disputes among guitar makers might seem really petty, I expect Gibson to be getting a taste of their own medicine here for not playing authentic with DiMarzio double creams.
The irony is, there’s footage of Lynyrd Skynyrd at the July 7th Day On The Green (playing just before Peter Frampton) in 1977…and Leon IS playing a Cherry Sunburst NonReverse Thunderbird for Freebird.

I recently bought an Explorer melody maker. Mine had been slightly upgraded with Grover tuners, Duncan JB and and intonatable bridge. What amazes me is how well it plays. Would love to see a slightly updated version, the one here,I would have bought in an instant. Do a short run Gibson!!!
That Les Paul Special with the fancy pickguard and Bigsby reminded me a lot of John Cipollina's (of Quicksilver Messenger Service) heavily customised SG. The colour was basically the same, pickguard was similar and it had the Bigsby. If it had three humbuckers then it would have been even more apparent as a tribute to Cipollina.
I wonder if that Yellow junior got edge carving because of some kind of horrible damage to the edge, so they just shaved it off. Edit: the PRS SE Semihollow II has a rosewood headstock veneer, and come on, GIbson can do (but doesn’t always do) a holly veneer, so why not mix it up?
I think there is no European Mod shop. A few weeks ago, Gibson started to ship to some countries in Europe from the US Mod shop. Prices include VAT, but probably some additional customs costs will be applied. Anyone got one of these guitars imported into Europe ? Was it trouble free ?
Gibson just needs to chill out with challenges an court actions . Put all that effort into quality control an maybe they will be worth half of what they cost

while its certainly not traditional, i feel having a maple fretboard with black inlays like fender used to do would work much better than an ebony board on that first les paul
I bought a set of THROBAK pickups for my les paul 60s neck standard and took a chance and removed the nickel covers and to my surprise there were two double cream pickups underneath and now not only does my guitar sound sweet it looks it too. BTW THOSE THROBAKS WERENT CHEAP IN USD THEY WERE $620 ouch but sound wise soooooo worth it.
Hi Austin, love your videos! Have a question for the Norlin era Pro. Have a 78 Les Paul Custom with the chainsaw 2 case. The mount where the back of the neck sits in the case has worn the 2 lines right into the finish. Owner since new. Has never been sitting flat. Have you ever seen or heard of this? It’s black so didn’t bother sending pictures of the issue. Also, a ball park figure of these for worth these days. It’s in good condition. Truss rod has never been adjusted but once when new. Thank you for your help!

Well I'll pass on all the repaints. Resale value in future will be low because they are repaints. The dimarzio copies are just Gibson trying to push the issue. I have a 81 custom that I changed to all cream plastics and put in cream dimarzios. Great guitar and it's cherry burst like ace.
I have refused to buy Dimarzio pickups just because of this. Like just about everything on a guitar Gibson did it first, I hope they make a 498t in this color.
