    This period of U.K. hip hop will never get the recognition it deserves, it fell between drum n bass/garage/grime at a time when a lot of hip hop heads only wanted to listen to Americans. Only real ones know

    "I seek change like a busker but things stay much the same" ..... A simple bar but so perfectly written and delivered, I think it says it all. Probably the most memorable line for me in any record.

    “Give me 26 characters for home sick travellers”
    My inference is that when he moved from the sticks to the city he felt homesick and is searching for the right words to communicate this, like a traveller. Perhaps he’s even lost and can’t communicate this. Beautiful

  • @alexgwyther
    @alexgwyther 3 года назад +3

    I reckon “go home to my house made of glass and throw stones for a laugh” is a reference to self-sabotage and self-destructive tendencies; again linked to depression and the previous lyric about his world being overcast and living in the dark 🤯

    "Clutching at straws" is a phrase that means like, a desperate last ditch attempt at something. So he's using a grass/straw metaphor to say he's clutching at straws but it's backfiring. "I'm clutching straw but I'm cut by a blade of grass".

    • @slakk5093
      @slakk5093 3 года назад +2

      Just to add to that.. Straw is what you call grass.. as in straw bales (grass feed for cattle)

    • @aronbradley-clarke4278
      @aronbradley-clarke4278 3 года назад +3

      Might be stating the obvious but blade is a play on the literal instrument in case anyone missed that.

      @@HarryDuBois616 think being cut by a blade of grass can also mean being overly sensitive, as grass is so soft and there are so many blades of it. So every little thing is hurting him, physically or emotionally even when he's already in a desperate place.

    clutching straws and cut by a blade of grass. - If you are clutching at straws or grasping at straws, you are trying unusual or extreme ideas or methods because other ideas or methods have failed. so it's trying new methods as others have failed but still getting 'cut' - or failing by a blade of grass. the link of straw and grass is obvious cos straw is basically dried grass. not too much into it - just nice wordplay.
