Wow this is truely amazing thank you! I’ve delved into my water soluble crayons and oil pastels yesterday and felt totally overwhelmed. Seeing this I’m excited to try it all out 💜
Dearest Vicki, wonderful video on all these wonderful uses of art crayons. As of Feb 2022, I know a year after this was recorded, we are having trouble finding your art crayons!!! Love ya!!!
Vicki Boutin my littles have been staying up until 10 and my husband’s sick and has been going to sleep at 8. I’ve been burning the midnight oil to get some crafting in. 😴
The art crayons, your stencil brushes, and stencils were my first drink of the kool aid. I am still a beginner, I have gotten some glazes and mists now too. I don't think I am wonderful at it but I sure do enjoy playing and have made a pretty nifty background or two.
Thank you so very much for this video. I own some sets of water soluble crayons. These techniques are new to me. Am so excited to use these techniques.
I only have sets 2 and 3, but I'm still going to try this. I have several sets of the TH crayons so I'll also try and find out how well they combine...may not work, but I'll never know if I don't try. I really hope they play well together, just think of all the color combinations!! 😃😀
Thanks for this video. I bought two kits from HSN as my intro to mixed media and was having issues getting started. Now I I can try new techniques...love using them with stencils. Thanks again!
Hi Deborah! Great question!!! Super easy to clean! Wipe on a wet paper towel, or dip just the tip of the brush in water and then rub in a circular motion on a cloth of paper towel until it rubs clean and some of the dampness is removed. Roll the brush up in a paper towel (like a tube) and leave it to dry. (I re-use the rolled paper towel each time). I do have multiple brushes...but more for switching between colors and needing a dry brush...or...needing a "clean" brush. Hope this helps!
Hello, Vicky! I knew you because of your products, but this is the first time i watch one of your videos. I loved all the techniques, thank you so much for sharing! I've subscribed as well to learn more :) Greetings from Spain!
Thank you!!! I’m new to the water soluble art crayons and I like how you took the time to show different ways of using them. I have the neutral box and I can’t wait to use them when making my fall cards:
I love the kissing technique. A little late but going to catch up on all your video series. Do you gesso your watercolor paper or just the foundations and cardstock?
Yay love that these are on RUclips so if I ever need a little boost I can come back and watch again!! Also a great way for me to get my friends drinking the koolaid! 😀
Hi Vicki, for technique #3, if I wanna write on top of the mixed media, which pen / marker do you recommend? Would a Sharpie permanent marker work? Thanks so much!! 😀
Hi Christy! Great question! A Sharpie or Paint Marker should work well. When they are mixed with water...most pens will work. Used dry...where there is more "crayon" the Sharpie. I would recommend creating test sheets to add to your mixed media "recipe" book and create a dilutes/water effect and write with different markers on top and create a second version with the "dry" technique.
thanks for sharing, love all the things you can do with art crayons, have to dig mine out. Also I was wondering can you still purchase the diamond sunburst stencil you used in the demo. ?
Thank you for your generosity and inspiration! I have learned A LOT from watching your videos! It’s hard to pick a favorite from all of your products. I do have a question about the stamps...I imagine the stickiness decreases over time? Besides keeping them attached to their packaging is there anything to extend the life or something to add to the backs? When I add any water mine slip around on my stamping block...??
Aleene's Tack it Over and Over glue will help...or double sided tape used for mounting rubber stamps. Clen the stamps well and side not....the water makes most stamps slide around. Dry the block and stamp and remount. :)
At the beginning of the video you said that we'd be surprised what can be done with the neutral set of crayons. In a future video can you show us how to best use this set, please? By the way, I'm loving these videos and find them easier to watch on RUclips rather than Facebook.
Great idea! As a follow up I will do a video dedicated to just the neutrals! There are a few Facebook Lives with the neutral set...just look under the "video" tab on my FB Artist Page. I will duplicate here!
Hi there! Water soluble crayons come in MANY forms and they all have different properties and can be used in various ways. Pencils are much harder...still water soluble (if they are intact water soluble pencil crayons) but they won't create all of the techniques I show here. I own ALLLLL of the things! LOL! and use them for different projects.
Another tip: You can add Gesso or Any Acrylic medium make the crayons move or be opaque like Acrylic or Gouache. or add Acrylic glitter or iridescent medium for crazy effects.
Hey Vicki! I paint with acrylics and then use the art crayons as last touch color details and marks. But, I'm curious, what do you recommend to use for varnishing? They smudge and move when I do varnish. I know fixatif is an option, but curious how you do it.
Hi Diane! There are many water-soluble crayons out there...they are all magical and do different things...Gelatos are much softer...you could try them with all of these techniques and see what kind of results you get. I own ALLLLL of the different types! LOL!
a layer of Matte Acrylic Gel...depending on the technique you use. Because the Gel is a liquid, it can lift the pigment. I use a brayer and clean it in-between "rolls"
@@VickiBoutin I will try that. I do not like to use spray fixative in the house during winter. I was thinking about a ranger rub on fixative but I'm afraid it will move my artwork.
Tami...are you referring to the "application" like the "kissing" technique? Or as the base beneath? If it is for applying the watercolour...you need flexibility. If it is for the stencil brush...either will work...but...it could scratch the glass.
I don't use them in a heavy enough way to worry about setting them, especially when mixed with water. You could use an oil pastel fixative if you needed to.
I discovered your amazing art and videos several months ago am loving learning from your great videos!
Awesome Vicki! So wonderful of you to give your time so freely. Thanks.
It's fun!!!!
I love that these are on you tube!
I can do lots with more time on my hands! LOL!
Love ya!!!
On a recent live, Vicki shared they are being discontinued. I bought mine directly from her site.

Stamping with art crayon was my favorite!
Isn't it fabulous!!!!???
So fun!! Can’t wait for bedtime tonight! 😃
ahhhh bedtime! My fav time too...but much later when waiting for two teens and a husband to go to sleep! LOL!!!
Vicki Boutin my littles have been staying up until 10 and my husband’s sick and has been going to sleep at 8. I’ve been burning the midnight oil to get some crafting in. 😴

Totally agree!!! Give it a try!
Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful ideas, Vicki! I had no idea you could use those Art Crayons in so many different ways! :)
They are little sticks of magic! And this is just the beginning!
happy to watch and learn from NZ. Recently purchased the art crayons
A friend recently sent me a set of art crayons. Now i know how to use them!
Thanks Vicki. I have a set of watercolor crayons that I've had for years now. I think I used them twice. Did not know you could do so much with them.
Fun, fun, fun. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
These are on my wish list. They look like they’re fun to play with!
Thanks for this video. I bought two kits from HSN as my intro to mixed media and was having issues getting started. Now I I can try new techniques...love using them with stencils. Thanks again!
These are great! How do you then clean your stencil brush or do you dedicate one brush to the crayons and another for inks, paint, etc.?
@@VickiBoutin Thanks! Great video - looking forward to the next one.
The past few years. I have really been into watercolor media. Whether it is markers, crayons, pencils, liquid watercolor, inks, tubes or pan sets.
same. It is my fave medium!
You are right I have some & didn’t know what to do with them now off to play I mean practice
Awesome!
I just found these.... love them! So fun....grown up crayons 🖍.😍🥰
This was a great learning video. Thanks so much!
Waiting for mine to arrive
Wow! That was so fun too watch and listen to your excitement. Always wanted to try mix media, guess now is the time. TFS
Wow!

I only gesso cardstock and only when I want the "technique" it offers.
Love this!!!!!
Totally new to this.. if stamping and adding to scrapbooks with photos- do you fun into trouble of bleeding or rubbing off onto the photos?
Your so great
Well thanks, Tami!!!
Yay love that these are on RUclips so if I ever need a little boost I can come back and watch again!! Also a great way for me to get my friends drinking the koolaid! 😀
chug chug chug!!!! THANKS!

Yes you can! Following the link in the description. Two new sets came out with Let's Wander...my latest release!

I've never heard of a Vicki Burton product. Where are they purchased?
😍. They are sold out on scrapbook.com, will they restock?
Not sure if you covered this in another video but what's the difference between water color crayon and pencil?
Hi there! Water soluble crayons come in MANY forms and they all have different properties and can be used in various ways. Pencils are much harder...still water soluble (if they are intact water soluble pencil crayons) but they won't create all of the techniques I show here. I own ALLLLL of the things! If they are always open and reactive, how would you seal this?
Can you set them with a fixative spray?
Another tip: You can add Gesso or Any Acrylic medium make the crayons move or be opaque like Acrylic or Gouache. or add Acrylic glitter or iridescent medium for crazy effects.

Quest Stones LLC sounds fun!!! I think an oil pastel fixative would be your best bet!
I do have your art crayons and will be using them but I also wondered how they differ from say gelatos.
Hi Diane! There are many water-soluble crayons out there...they are all magical and do different things...Gelatos are much softer...you could try them with all of these techniques and see what kind of results you get. I own ALLLLL of the different types! LOL!
Thank you :-)
You are welcome!
I especially like technique #2. Effect looks exactly like as if you applied distress ink (?) to the edges. Now I need a stencil brush.
I'm going to use the ones I get for backgrounds in my adult coloring books. I'm buying the King art 36 set. Can't afford yours.
I got some (kids water soluble) and they don’t blend well & can look grainy. They were hard on my hands & are these easier on your body??
Vicki if I have the gold glaze and it’s dried up, can I just add water?
No, unfortunately. Art product have a shelf life...I have lots I forgot to use and had to throw away. :(
Do you use gel medium to seal the art crayons?
not when they are "watercolour" and only if it is on a book cover or not in a pocket page.
Is there a way to make them stable so you can work over them?
a layer of Matte Acrylic Gel...depending on the technique you use.
Is using a glass mat get same results as using a plastic mat?

4:49 starts the 5 ways
Almost $30 for one box in Canada. ouch! Love them though.
Would you call this a bargain brand neocolor 2?
Softer than Neocolor and more of a value. Great for creatives new to using art mediums but still a great result
First art product USED at 5 minutes in.
If you wanted to set these on your paper what would you use?
I don't use them in a heavy enough way to worry about setting them, especially when mixed with water. You could use an oil pastel fixative if you needed to.
this is so basic and pointless.
