    I think you guys really missed the point of the spirate system. It is about user experience. Omega now has the technology for you to fine tune your watch by just coming into the boutique. It does not have to go to service to be regulated- it is an in boutique quick fix. They now have a way to continue to interact and bring people into the boutique other than buying. And it will allow you to get the watch performing at a level beyond any thing else out there. When everyone else is trying to get you to have to use their service and those service experiences are getting to months long waits to get your watch back- Omega has a real time experience that brings you into the boutique- genius.

    The big deal here is that Omega can now regulate watches in-store with minimal specialised tools, rather than having to send your watch back to Omega or a third-party.

    • @borassictime918
      @borassictime918 2 года назад +3

      But can they? Who is going to do the regulation, not just some random person in a WOS store, surely? Boutiques only…where there is a trained watchmaker, on site, in a dust-free room…while you wait? Seems unlikely to me 🤔 More likely; leave it with us, we’ll send it off to a service centre… in which case it’s no different to how things are now.

    • @m.e.p.r
      @m.e.p.r 2 года назад +4

      @@borassictime918 Yes, I'd say they can and Omega boutiques only of course, not just your average high-street AD 😂. But that's still impressive, most major cities have one. Or of course your local watch maker will be able to regulate it easily, my watchmaker is keen on it from a servicing and accuracy point of view. Well done Omega. It's easy to underestimate just how hard these things are to implement and roll out, global release and at scale. Will take time of course, but a positive step forward for Omega.

  • @jamesbaum9775
    @jamesbaum9775 2 года назад +10

    I own both Omega and Rolex, and like them both for different reasons. My Rolex is not a hyped model and does not sell for 2X MSRP, but that’s not why I bought it. My Speedmaster pro is a technical marvel with a real historical backstory. I realize it’s an over-generalization, but I believe way more Rolex buyers get them either as jewelry or as a perceived asset class for investment purposes while Omega buyers are way more represented by watch enthusiasts who don’t give a rodent’s posterior about resale value.

    • @2gunzfilms425

      A Rolex is a jewelry item for most at this point. You’re 100% right. I don’t want a day date because it’s a marvel of hourology..i want a Day Date because it’s the “President”

    • @jenda386
      @jenda386 Год назад

      I believe (and I'll be gladly proven wrong) that Rolex makes the best-wearing technically competent watches.
      There is no competition to the Daytona with similar specs and dimensions anywhere at any price. Every other chronograph is either too big, too thick, lacks water resistance or lacks accuracy. The same is true for the Submariner. Other diving watches are too big, too thick or both. Same for GMT Master II. Have a look at Omega's GMT offerings. They're all laughably big.
      I'm in the market for an automatic chronograph and a diver which I could comfortably wear on my 6-inch wrist. Omega has nothing for me, as far as I can tell. On the other hand, I really like Omega's Globemaster series and I would definitely buy that rather than a Datejust.

    • @LawrenceMacMacster
      @LawrenceMacMacster Год назад +3

      @@jenda386 It depends on what you're looking for, I'm no diver and I don't care for most tool watches, I wouldn't trade anything I own for a Rolex unless it's some historically significant model I couldn't pass. Rolex is not the high end of luxury or build quality, they have really strong offerings for the money (assuming you can get them at retail) but they're the best marketers not the best watchmakers.

      Yup exactly! Omega watches have to be seen in the flesh. The specs on paper about the thickness isn't actually an issue . Because, specially the speedmasters, Omega has mastered the craft by layering the case, bezel, back and crystal... when worn you would be surprised it's not thick at all.
      It's just right amount of thickness.

    The ETA movements Omega used in the 90s and 2000s where comparable to the Rolex's of the period and the bracelets were better. I have 2 Seamasters from that period and both are great. I also had Rolex's of that period and now 2 six digit models. Now Omega is more advanced on the movements. And they make excellent bracelets.

    Dial and movement is what matters for me. For the movement not necessarily complications. Chronos are cool and I have one but it feels like a party trick. I never actually need it. The most complicated watch I could ever find use for is a day date gmt. What intrigues me most about movements is things like the spring drive or coaxial escapement. Just something that improves what the watch is for and that’s telling time in the most efficient and accurate way possible without it being a mass produced cheap quartz movement. I even love a vintage accutron with a tuning fork. So combine an intriguing movement and a beautiful dial and that’s how I’m judging whether a watch is something I want to buy.

    Yes it can be regulated to 0.1s a day. But +0 to +2 accuracy that is certified is also very cool. Michael missed a cool point in his presentation again 🤦‍♂

    The spirate is only all that useful if you aren’t doing a good job regulating at the factory. Rolex specifically guarantees their accuracy, and if it doesn’t they have3 to take it back and adjust it at a service center so they are incentivized to get it right the first time. Since the spirate allows the dealers to fix what the factory didn’t get right, there is now little cost to Omega to get it right initially. They should be working to make their watches more reasonable thickness, then given their superior finishing compared to Rolex might allow them to start recovering market share Omega lost late in the 20th century.

      Out of the factory they are guaranteed and checked in the METAS certification to run 0-2 spd.
      As far as Rolex and their superlative movements guaranteed to -2 to +2 spd. Do an online search of “problems with the 32xx movements” and read the thousands of posts (just on the Rolex forum there are > 3000) and number of watches being returned and sold because of low amplitude and losing > 10 spd, or don’t.
