I bought twenty bottles of Egoiste in 1994 when a perfume store was going out of business in NYC. I loved the smell so much that I could not resist buying all the bottles at $20 each. I had no idea at that time that years later the formula would change. I was just madly in love and crazy to spend $400 for twenty bottles. Well, 27 years later, I still have some bottles that are still in their boxes. I have always kept them in the freezer since the day I bought them. The scent is still the same. No change since the day I lugged them home on the subway. It is my signature scent and I have no idea what I will do when I run out.
You will always be one of the very best reviewers in my book. Well informed and always interesting to watch unlike most superficial youtube bozos grabbing attention by acting weird. I love these ‘scent memories’ and although I’m quite a bit younger myself I also do have a profound love and understanding for 80’s and 90’s fragrances. I just had a vintage Egoiste come in and can’t wait to enjoy this one myself. Cheers
This is the best way to present a perfume, where Chris talks about his impressions while wearing the perfume. A real artistic presentation..well done...BRAVO
I love your story, it's amazing how fragrances can make a big impact in our souls! I got Egoïste today and am looking forward to wearing it very soon! Thanks
My first fragrance love that started it all. Still my biggest love. Many say its the male version of Bois des Iles, but I think its a more slimmed down version of Coco (my second favorite). The far dry down of the Vintage smells a lot like Egoiste. Florals removed, sandalwood amped up. The rose note is actually made up of damascones, famously used in Shiseidos Nombre Noir and Coco. They have a smell of rose and dried fruits. Egoiste never smells fruity on me, but MyMickers (RIP) seemed to got it sometimes... I get 10 hours out of Egoiste, but even later when I have a hot shower after a long day it reactivates and fills the shower with its heavenly aroma. This is seriously the last thing I want to smell before I die.
What a great review of this timeless classic. This is the only cologne that I have vintage back-up bottles of. 1990s versions have real mysore sandalwood I believe.
Is my signature sent along with Egoiste Platinum... the original formulations were amazing new generations have no idea since they are only exposed to the current formula...
Sad that Lagerfeld Photo is no longer available, what a stunner..same with Sun Moon Stars from Lagerfeld for women, which was a cheap drug store fragrance at the time, its a shame..1990 i was 11 years old but still remember my elder brother wearing Photo..great bottle with that ring on top..i like Platinum Egoiste very much but this one i have yet to sample..thanks Chris, viel Grüße!
Finally! Too bad it’s not available here in Canada. I like wearing it in the winter, but I prefer Platinum Egoiste for everyday, during all four seasons.
Hi Chris, great review, stories and Falco performance, thanks! 👍🏻 Egoiste is one of my favorites, as Egoiste Platinum and Pour Monsieur are. I still could shoot me in the head, as I recently missed a rare bottle of its shower gel for just 17€ on ebay. Again, big compliment for your reviews, no nonsense and NO „panty dropper/compliment factor/ladies reactions“ bullshit! 👍🏻 Best regards from Germany, Dan
It reminds me of a black and mild wooden tip wine flavored cigar with a dash of rose and cinnamon ...Somebody on fragrantica said a pirate smell ..Not the tropical pinnapple coconut vibe the wooden ship deck boozy rum and spice pirate ..👈 That sold me ...I just reacieved my bottle Monday 🙌
I remember buying my first bottle of it at neiman marcus in San Francisco in the summer of 1995. I think I paid something like 25 bucks - even after California's sales tax - for a 50 ml bottle. And the flirty sales lady offered to gift wrap it especially for me. 25 bucks.
@david lincoln brooks shows you the real rate of inflation. Yes, perfume is not essential goods and as such is not included in the inflation stats, but that's a 4 to 5 time increase over a 25 year period. The mind is boggled.
Regrets, regrets! I had the original back in the 90s but for some reason--maybe I thought it was too intense for the office, despite the full blast AC---it fell out of favor with me and I gave it away 😞.
Hi mate. Chris may I have your opinion on antaeus please mate if you have this in your collection as its something I may be interested in depending on your take on such a fragrance etc. Craig says "Hi Chris" Regards mate John and Craig
John Nimmo Great work but not really my cup of tea. Later Chanels like Egoiste or Pour Monsieur Parfum (2016) have a more Chanel kinda vibe at least for me. Hugs to you both!
@@scentland4753 Well, I beg to differ, Sir. Yes, Bentley has probably more in common with Guerlain L'Homme Idéal edp, but also some similarities with Chanel Egoiste. The latter has a more "marmalade" smell, it is more sophisticated and with better quality components, but it is not a totally different stuff from Bentley. I might be wrong, but this is what I think. Anyway, I haven't been a frequent wearer of Egoiste as I don't like it (and I like even less its flanker). Yes, it is daring, original, 'historical', with a fans community ecc., but I have never met anyone actually wearing it.

What a brilliantly accurate review. Luxurious comfort is what this reeks of to me. Classy, beautiful, addictive and timeless

Just Add Light thankyou
Recently I got my hands on a vintage one. Truly incredible and enticing scent.

Although I don't reach for it much these days it's my lifelong signature scent 👍🏼
Amazing

Anyone else find this similar to Costume National Homme?
It was my signature scent I was in uni in the mid 90s. It's not the same scent now. Still good. But not as great as it was back in the day.
One of my all time favorites, alongside Sables by Annick Goutal

Beautiful video my friend!
Thanks a lot man!!
Which fragrance do you wear on a warm summer s day
Hello guys! Does anyone know how much the 100ml black cap weigh? Thanks in advance, Sincerely!
Wow I didn't know Falco wore this
How close is Armaf Legasi?
An all time classic but not an immediate hit on release if my memory serves correctly!!

Nice review 👍 love you from Pakistan
Masood Bugti thank you!!
Bentley for Men Intense is pretty similar to this one and costs way less.
mareverticale ? I know Bentley Intense, I do like it but it barely had anything in common with Egoiste.

Egoiste will always smell to me like a good Rakija - Šljivovica. Sold it only because the performance is abysmal. :)
Hinz and Kunz wear this...
❤️🙌
