      I think he means the tone of his voice. If you listen carefully, it goes from jovial at the start to somewhat serious at the end.

    It should be noted that the "12" rating didn't exist for video releases until 1994, though it had been used for cinema releases since 1989.

    I can't believe I watched all of these. Although sometimes video certificates can get a bit sticky. I remember when The Terminator was out on DVD which was rated 15, but the video was still rated 18. Both versions were identical which could have caused a few issues

      reptongeek Films get re-rated all the time. Sometimes DVD/Blu-ray releases get rated higher than the original cinema certificate due to the extras on the discs. This applies to Anchorman, Bedazzled, Dodgeball, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Napoleon Dynamite, Robots, Run Fatboy Run and Philadelphia.

      Film distributors need to re-submit films to get an updated certificate. The BBFC won't do it automatically. So there are a few films out there that probably have out-dated certificates, and there can be different releases floating around with different ratings as a result.

      I believe the 2000 VHS was the same pan-and-scan cropped version that got an 18 in the 80s.
      whereas the DVD was the full wide-screen ratio, so counted as a "new version" and downgraded to 15.

      Although oddly, almost all R-rated movies are rated 18 in the UK. In America basically anyone of any age can see any film as long as an adult accompanies them. Whereas in the UK, 15 or 18 means exactly that, if you're not 15 or 18 you're not getting in/can't rent. Very few films in the US are rated NC-17 as that's almost as much of a kiss of death as being unrated as far as box office goes.

    • @aliquidcow
      @aliquidcow 5 лет назад +1

      This isn't really that accurate when it comes to R and NC-17. The US ratings G/PG/PG-13 are pretty much equivalent to U/PG/12A, but when it comes to R rated movies, they can be 15 or 18 in the UK, it really depends. Sometimes even a 12A film can be an R in the US. Ratings are given by completely different bodies that have completely different standards, so you can't be sure of a direct conversion from one to the other. The MPAA will sometimes take issue with something that the BBFC aren't too concerned about.
      NC-17 is very rarely given in the US since it's basically box office death. If something get NC-17 then it's almost certainly going to be 18 in the UK as it's likely going to have some very strong material in it, but the vast majority of 18 rated films here in the UK were R in the US, and I'd say probably most 15 rated films were as well. This is sort of the issue with the R rating I think, it encompasses a bit too wide a range. Sometimes it feels overly restrictive, while at other times it feels like there ought to be a higher rating (that isn't associated with porn the way NC-17 is) to keep children out completely.

So in the 80's you'd get this guy pop up before you were about to watch Nightmare On Elm Street 3 on the VCR etc.
