Witcher 3: A Guide to Crafting Grandmaster Gear As Cheap & Easily As Possible

- Опубликовано: 14 окт 2024
- Hello and welcome to my video showing how to craft the Grandmaster Witcher sets as cheaply as possible! I'll also be doing a video about how to make money and save money late-game by selling and dismantling various items.
First of all, check out this incredible post from Reddit user Leonardearl which breaks down the costs and the process from start to finish:
/ cnrtvnzj09
As shown in that post, you can save in excess of 22k purely by using the materials available in the main game and Blood and Wine if you craft the necessary components instead of buying them individually.
There's also this fantastic post from RyotoYokoyama showing this in pictorial form:
www.reddit.com...
The TLDR version is make Infused Slyzard hides from Draconic Leather + Infused Crystals, and make Enriched Dimeritium Plates/Ingots as follows:
Gold + Silver + Copper to Green Gold Ore to Green Gold (add Copper + Nickel) to Orichalcum Ore (+ Dimeritium Ore + Acid Extract) to Enriched Dimeritium Ore to Enriched Dimeritium Ingots to Enriched Dimeritium Plates
Check out the video... hopefully it saves you a boatload of crowns and lets you craft at least one of these magnificent Witcher sets.
Please leave a like if you enjoyed the video and/or found it useful, and subscribe for more videos! Please also feel free to comment or ask any questions.
I did all six Witcher Gear sets at the same time in my 8th game. Cost me a little over 200,000 crowns. Four are Grandmaster and Two are Legendary (Viper/Manticore) I put five in Corvo Blanco and wore one. That should have been an Achievement.
Do you have to start from scratch when getting legendary witcher gear? Say I have the grandmaster for a set and start NG+ can I upgrade said grandmaster witcher set to legendary grandmaster, or do I really have to start from scratch like enrich, superior legendary etc.... ._.
Same
Try having a fully upgraded Runewright atop that Lol
Agreed bro. Such a grind.
Soumyadeep Banerjee lol. 😭 Worked out the costs without saving and it was at that point I said nah I’m good bro 😂
This master craftsmen men making bank of me
True. But if you sell him a load of swords that you get from killing bandits at the Hanse bases you can get it back from him in no time.
I wish you could rob him or something i dont even care if his life is tragic, why are you charging me 4k crowns for something i basically have
Just a tip for materials and money. In case you run out of dimeritium ores, there's an easy way to farm them. Go to the old signal tower in Kaer Morhen. You can infinitely farm the Pang of Conscience sword. You can dismantle it and obtain dimeritium ore and glowing ore ingot or sell it. Helps ease the crafting and spending process by a lot
But that is different from the enriched dimeritium ore isn't it?
@@RIPdBOON yup. But for the enriched version you need a ton of regular dimeritium, and this is the quickest way to get all the pieces you need
@@jorgeabbud9518 thanks for the quick reply. Man it would of been awesome if the armorer would of rewarded Geralt one set of GM armor for getting all the diagrams.
@@RIPdBOON no problem mate. Oh, one more detail for the grandmaster stuff. You'll also need orichalcum. When you're collecting all the armor pieces (Toussaint Ducal Guard, Officer, Captain and Knight pieces) that belong to Blood and Wine, take them to the armorer. Chances are if you dismantle them you can get one or two pieces of orichalcum ore
@@jorgeabbud9518 dude thanks, better than paying 700+ for them through him!
I was so excited to get grandmaster gear then this happened 😂
Just spent 30 mins trying to do it without a tutorial 😩
This damn acid extract.
Tis definitely annoying.
Still playing witcher 3 in dec 2023. These videos are helping greatly on my third playthrough. First time actually doing blood and wine and I’m loving it. Thanks!
you're doing the lord's work my man, ty!
Thank you! You're welcome, and I'm glad you found the video useful 👍
If this isn't cheap enough, you could also consider the Viper set from Heart of Stone. It has no set bonuses, but it is a little better stat-wise than the other grandmaster sets and is ridiculously cheap to craft.
Yeah, the Viper armour is excellent and looks gorgeous too. It's the second-best defensive set after Ursine in terms of Monster resistance, too.
I love the Grandmaster sets, but the Ornate Robes are easily my favorite looking pieces of armor. Grandmaster Ursine is a close second.
Yeah, it's a cool looking armour.
No the wolven is best looking by far imo
Best thing about the wolven armor is that you don't need a mastercrafted gear to upgrade it to grandmaster
We can simply upgrade to grandmaster
How?
@@RIPdBOON it's just not part of the recipe...
@@Ecliptor. yeah I eventually figured that out lol thanks. I moved in from Witcher after about 200 hours, best rpg I've ever played hands down. I've now moved on to Dark Souls which is a beast of it's own!
Omg this is a very good step by step guide on how awesome the crafting system is and how to save ALOT of time and money and my head still hurts from listening to this lol really good video man you cleary put alot of time and effort into this video thanks
You're welcome, glad you found it useful 👍
The dude who did the Reddit post that's linked in the description deserves a lot of credit too!
@@DPhoenix237 true I forgot completely that you had said you got the info from someone on reddit but that doesn't detract from the effort you out into the video. I'll check out the link too though because in actually going into crafting all this stuff it might be easier to have it in text form instead of jumping back and forth in a video
Wolven and manticore gear are the way to go, since they do not require the previous upgrades ( superior, mastercrafted e.t.c. )
I thought this was how It was done. I just went into the crafting components at the shop and built it there
I dont have a lot of crowns so when I was upgrading to master griffin I bought a few in the crafting screen and it cost me 10k crowns so I l reloaded the game and did it the other way
Thank you for this great crafting guide as well as the link. Still very much valid in late Nov, 2020. It’s also the satisfaction you get from crafting your own materials rather than just buying them. Cheers!
You're most welcome, and I am glad that your found it useful 👍
@@DPhoenix237 I actually bought everything for the GM Feline set, then watched your video, then luckily went back to an earlier save and did the crafting without the need to buy anything apart from crafting costs. Saved at least 10k in doing so and with huge satisfaction in crafting everything. Thanks again.
Actually I need orichalcum ore, i have like 20 infused shits but im lacking on the ore
Yup, Orichalcum is usually the problem. I cover it here at 8:30 in the video; you make it from Green Gold, Nickel and Copper. The Green Gold can be created, as shown here too.
It helped, thank you for your vid, got the grandmaster ursine
@@terr7892 You're most welcome, glad it helped.
had 8k when i got grandmaster griffin diagrams, then i crafted the griffin trousers and IMMEDIATELY got shock bc it went down to 800 crowns
Really great videos man, thanks! You recommended Yonna at Crow's Perch for dismantling (cheapest) and the master armeror in Toussaint for crafting best quality. But what is your opinion on Hatori in Novigrad, I did not hear you mention him. Also, what is the best grandmaster set in your opinion: Ursine, Wolfen, Bear, Griffin....?
Thanks for the kind words! I didn't mention Hattori because he gives high prices, but not as high as thus Toussaint masters and the Grandmaster, so he's kind of in the middle. He is relatively expensive for dismantling because of this, but not quite as good to sell to so I don't really use him myself.
For which armour is best, it depends on your build really. I think Ursine is the best because it has the highest resistances and I use it on the Uber build, which is the best build in the game.
@@DPhoenix237 Thanks for your reply. I have over 280 hours in the game and at level 38 entered Toussaint for the first time yesterday. Still a lot of question marks on Skellige's map ;) I will go with the Ursine set and maybe the uber build later. Love the game and the crafting. Great channel, you have a new subscriber.
Since the grandmaster sets require master crafted sets as well, does that mean I can't craft them if I just play the blood and wine DLC...or are those recipes already available?
Manticore and Wolven sets don't require the Mastercrafted sets so you'd definitely be able to get those.
I've never done the DLC as standalone but as I understand it the sidequests for the Witcher gear would still be available for you to do. Try it and see!
@chief wiggums Nope, but for the Manticore and Wolven you can craft the Grandmaster straight away, like I said. Manticore had no previous sets, and Wolven doesn't require the Mastercrafted sets because of the tree DLC bug which was already known at the time Blood and Wine was released.
Obviously you're entitled to your opinion about the DLC being 'peeled off the main game and sold for extra'' but I strongly disagree.
The main game has more content and quality than virtually any other game I've ever played. Hearts of Stone is great and doesn't cost too much, and Blood and Wine is incredible and is better value and quality than most full games.
I crafted the Grandmaster Wolven Armor. surprisingly it did not require the Mastercrafted Wolven set, so I sold those to make back some coin. Also the Manticore set does not have any previous gear, so you can directly craft that. not a big fan of the Manticore set however.
Gear isn't mediocre if you know how to use it correctly. Hie gear synergises with abilities is the main driving influence behind the best builds in the game.
The game is too easy though, I'll give you that.
I am right, and I care because it's a question of semantics and accuracy.
I did my No Armour Death March run and routinely beat red skull enemies as part of that. Does that make gear mediocre? No, it just means I'm so good at the game that I don't need it.
But saying 'gear is mediocre' and saying 'I don't need to use good gear' are two different things, and can mislead people of they read garbage like that and think that it's accurate.
Great video mate I started crafting the ore and stuff myself but I didn't know if it was cheaper to do so this video confirms that and you gave me a list of materials to go for cheers 👍🏻 great video 👌🏻
There is a like an acid extract glitch. Thanks for mentioning. I always dismantle and then have to buy it.
It's annoying as heck when that happens 😡
@@DPhoenix237 i am having glitch as well always venom extract..how to fix in console (PS4) thank you
@@AbhishekGupta-jt8qc You can't fix it unfortunately, it's annoying as hell.
You can only get your Acid Extract from Archespores so if you can find a nest and leave the nest untouched afterwards and try and get them to respawn.
Otherwise you just have to go round the town in Toussaint and buy all the Acid Extract from the Grandmaster Armourer, master smith and master Armourer, then fast travel away and back again and repeat.
Just got to Toussaint, and I'm level 41. Isn't there a geadmastet armoirer and swodsmith here? Where do we get the grafmaster diagrams too? In particular urisine.
Go to the noticeboard in the main town; there's a quest to visit the Grandmaster Armourer.
@DPhoenix237 Got it, thanks. I just grinded all the grandmaster diagrams until 5 a.m., lol. Now I need to farm for gold and materials. The armor, etc, takes a ton of resources. Holy shittake 😲
Yeah it's a lot. Probably best to grind hanse bases if you want ALL the sets. I did a video on that too.
@DPhoenix237 I saved it and liked it. I plan on farming them and selling and buying materials, etc, if the game will let me, lol. I'm still confused about the character abilities and mutagens. I literally have 22 points I haven't allocated to abilities and haven't done the advanced mutagens tab either, thiugh I did the quest and have access. I have no clue on what build to do, etc.
Holy fck. Grandmaster gear are so fcking expensive to craft! I had 30k crowns before I craft the Grandmaster Wolven Armor, after some hard crafting and bit of a headache I did craft the Armor, but daaaayyymn I only had about 13k crowns left and I even tried as much as possible to not purchase the crafting components and craft them separately instead. still spent much crowns.
Yeah they're expensive sets.
Also one more thing hearing you talk about all this stuff how do you store all that knowledge in your brain you make it sound so easy I guess I should say I've only started playing this game two weeks ago I know it's been out for years but I've only recently took an interest in The Witcher stuff
I can’t figure out where to make dark iron. I need that crafting diagram.
... I'm watching this and I'm so disappointed and sad.. My head is gonna burst seriously. And this is the second time i craft GM gear, not sure how i managed the first time..
I hear you; it's a complicated process. I'd recommend reading the Reddit post linked in the description. Sometimes it's easier to go through things in writing, step-by-step.
Panzerkampfwagen IV it made sense to me. Look at the stuff you need. Craft those from sub components you have. You can cut the cost from 40k to 10k. Just look at the crafting for all the components and most monster parts are dismanteled to make what you need.
heres me wasting about 14k on on the full wolven sets and realizing you dont need the grand master version to make the master crafted one
I know, sucks when you realise, doesn't it?
@@ricetrea8736 and he has one of the best swords that does so much damage
well, you can use the command to give yourself back the coin u spent. if u want to use that cheat however.
That would be strange seeing as the grandmaster version is better than the master crafted version...
Hi Phoenix, i know this isn't Witcher 3 related but will you be getting Borderlands 3?
I don't think I will to be honest. Got a backlog of games to play through already, and that includes Borderlands Handsome Collection that I haven't even touched yet 😂
The best way to get dimeritium ore is using the pang of concience glitch
Good idea, this one...I like it.
I'm on my first playthoruf I plan on going I to Ng+ those this armor become obsolete ??
I heard that you shouldnt get a special sword until you're level 61 cause it scales to 100
Those this apply to grand master armor
Or grand master armor is always level capped in your first playthrough
Thank you, king. I'm gonna name my firstborn child Phoenix237
🤣😇
Where can I find monsters for the acid extract to farm?
Dismantle Centipede and Kikimore components. As discussed in the video there is sometimes a bug where you get it from Archespore tentacles instead.
@@DPhoenix237 think it's bugged because I can't get it from kikimore and centipede and could've before but not anymore I'll try the archespore though
@@rafamadrigal12 Yeah it very annoying when that happens. You can buy it from the Grandmaster and the two smiths in Toussaint too.
Do you recommend getting every single piece of witcher gear to grandmaster before ng+? Or should I just focus on the one I want to use in the early ng+ stages and keep the rest at mastercrafted or not bother crafting it at all?
Totally up to you. I made them all and kept that save file at the end of the first playthrough, for starting New Game Plus again with different builds later.
You only actually need the gear for your actual build though. The rest don't really matter at all.
@@DPhoenix237 Alright, I think I'll just craft the feline and urine grandmaster gear and then I'll see how much I have left for the rest. I'd rather spend some time grinding to get to 61 for the level 100 witcher armor in ng+ instead of grinding for armor that'll be useless later on anyways, thanks for the help appreciate it.
I very much appreciate your help unfortunately 70% of what you said went over my head crafting on Skyrim is so much more straightforward and simple compared to The Witcher 3 I'm having a hard time getting the materials and understanding how to dismantle and what goes into what it's very complex so many more moving parts than they need to have
i wish this was simpler 😣
these should be given as quest rewards
or at least like assassin's creed. very diluted loot system. most if it is junk, very little of it is useful.
Thanks mate, super helpful. Legend
Glad you thought so, and thanks for the nice feedback.
ursine grandmaster set + light armor runewright = op
A god among men my friend. Much obliged.
You're most welcome, glad you found it useful.
@Phoenix237 You didn't include the location of a high enough mastery of an armorer that CAN actually craft this stuff.
It's only the Grandmaster Armourer Lafargue. You fund him easily by picking up the Master Master Master quest on the Toussaint Notice board.
@Jacob Cekovsky You get the quest to find the diagrams from the only person who can make it, it's obvious no explanation needed
I'm level 35 with the level 34 Mastercraft ursine gear do you think if I just beat the dlc with side quests and all of that that I would have enough coin to craft everything from scratch
Yeah if you did the whole DLC, definitely. You'll probably be able to get the 20k+ for the Grandmaster set by level 40; check out my videos on selling items late game and also Farming Hanse bases. You can get tons of money doing those.
Much appreciated I'll be sure to like and subscribe
I grabbed the GM Wolf diagrams and gave them to him but they don't show in the menu to craft....what am I missing? Is there a cooldown period?
No there isn't. Did you have the filters on in the crafting menu or something? Those can stop it from showing diagrams that you don't already have the items available for.
@@DPhoenix237 like a fool I did yes.
@@benreyes2595 No worries...I've done it myself before now!
This video is very helpfull. Thank you.
You're welcome!
Any tips for getting acid the venom extract glitch happened and I need acid
Ah grim, I hate when that happens.
If you've left any Archespore nests untouched, try and save first then kill them and meditate to see if they respawn. Archespore tentacles will dismantle into Acid Extract of you've got the glitch.
Otherwise, buy all the Acid Extract from the Grandmaster Smith and the master Smith & master Armourer near him, then meditate or fast travel until they've got more, and just repeat that 😥
How do you have so many of every material???!!!!
I can not find any «monster hide» for my feline mastercrafted set, do you guys know how to easily grind them?
Dismantle a different type of Hide with an Armourer; for example, dismantling a Troll hide or Necrophage hide with the Grandmaster Armourer or Yoanna should yield 2x Monster hides.
I have like none of those materials needed. Not even the simple ones :( I’m very tempted to cheat but I won’t .
Hmmm, what level are you? Do you not loot stuff or dismantle any weapons or armour and stuff?
You can only use the Grandmaster sets from level 40 and by that point I always had more than enough of the items needed, but then I loot quite a lot.
Not to worry; you get loads of these resources in Toussaint anyway, so just clear out some of the quests and Undiscovered locations in Toussaint and you'll get enough to make at least one set of Grandmaster gear.
Leave the leader of the Mont Crane Hanse base alive because you may need to farm it later to get money to buy the missing ingredients from the Grandmaster armourer instead.
Phoenix237 I’m level 46. Yeah never did much looting or dismantling if i didn’t need to. I’m almost completely broke so I have some grinding to do now.
@@gustthedouble2336 I'd recommend watching my video about farming Mont Crane castle if you've not killed the leader yet.
Otherwise clear the Undiscovered locations in Toussaint, and if you're still short after that watch my video about collecting the Skellige Undiscovered locations and sell or dismantle the armours and weapons that you get from them.
Phoenix237 ok I’ll be sure to check it out
Money’s not really problem if you know the best cow farming method, maybe 2 hours of grinding and you’d have over 100,000 crowns if you can sell it all to high buyers. But not really wanting to go on a grinding expedition that hard and I’ve already got about 35k from some previous farms so should be no problem.
Yeah I always had TONS of money on every playthrough. Some people struggle though, and regardless of that, everyone could find the Reddit post and 'pathway' of crafting everything very useful imho.
Phoenix237 yeah, there’s nothing I really spend my money on, the only times I’m spending lots is when I get the diagram for my next set of Witcher gear. I don’t craft or buy every sword I see, but I do pick them up and sell them all for heaps. But blood and wine (which I just started) is most likely going to drain me of my money now. But like the other day I was crafting my master crafted feline and I made the fucking dumbest mistake. I needed a bit more money so I was selling some shit brain farted and I saw that “he” had dimeritium for sale And it was only 800! For a bar. Also he had ore which was like 1000 for 11. Then I noticed my money went up I checked and I had to pay 9000 grand to get it back. I bought it back I ended up on like 3k but next day I had 23k
Whats your fav steel sword you use on the reg?
Toussaint Knight's Steel Sword at level 48 and at the end of New Game Plus.
If you take the correct steps at the end of your first playthrough you can get Hen Gaidth Sword at the end of it at a higher level, and use that for the first portion of New Game Plus (see the Blood and Wine episodes of my Death March walkthrough).
I crafted all grandmaster sets on my ng+ then yesterday I decided to replay just to realize that i cant do ng++ FML
Guess i have to grind to recraft them all on the regular main game save then start a ng+ wish me luck
Good luck!
Can I at least craft the weapons I don’t want the gear yet later in the story of blood of wine
Yeah, craft what you like!
I'm desperately low on money after building 2.5 sets to grandmaster level (ursine, wolven and feline)
Watch my video on grinding hanse bases for money; still the best money farm as far as I'm aware.
where do i get the scheme for the enriched ore, plate etc? dont have it
You do, they're automatically included with the DLC in the Crafting Components section when with the Grandmaster Armourer.
Question for ya. Armor sets. When you spend a lot of money on the lvl 40 grandmaster sets. What happens when you hit level 47 and that gear is not as strong as other sets you find in game? How can you level up the armor? Can you craft armor and weapons at higher levels than what the crafting thing says? Like it says longsword, level 8 on the crafting page. If I craft it at lvl 20, would it be lvl 8?
You can't level up that armour or swords; they just are the level that they are. Aerondight is the only sword that can level up and you do.
You don't need to level up the Grandmaster sets though. A armour rating counts for practically nothing; resistances matter much more.
Check out my New Game Plus walkthrough. I use the armour aet I had at level 40 to take out enemies that are level 90+ in episode 2.
"We make it hard so players can feel accomplished when they finally achieve it"
Everyone: (」°ロ°)」What (」°ロ°)」
How do you acquire the monster stomach??
Dismantle a Cockatrice stomach. There's always a Cockatrice roaming the fields to the Northwest of Novigrad; I showed the exact location in the episode of my Death March walkthrough that covers the first trip to Kaer Morhen. It'll be the episode at around level 22.
Phoenix237 awesome thanks a lot
I found monster stomach on a pale widow in the turn and face the strange quest
Does anyone know the names of the gear equipped in the start of the video?
It's the Ornate robe from Hearts of Stone, Undvik trousers, Nilfgaardian Guardsman Gauntlets, Manticore boots.
@@DPhoenix237 cheers for the response mate. Ive just gotten back to the game since first finishing the main story when it came out. Im running throught hearts of stone and then blood and wine now. Appreciate the guides.

@@DPhoenix237 :( maybe someone has a copy of it somewhere
for any new player dont star new game+ before level 60 since if u do start it at 60 the GM version of witcher gear and dlc witcher gear will be level 100 (the level cap) and the fang of concience sword is gonna be level 85 or 90ish if im not mistaken. also every new game plus add 40 level to the loot u can get caping at lvl 100. since when u start a new game+ u gonna need to farm for the eitcher gear set engrams of higher level
Those enriched ingots cost like 2200 ? Luckily I been saving my money so far
Can anyone advise can you acquire a Grandmaster Viper set ?
No there isn't a GM set of Viper. I love the Viper set though, as it has the best balance of resistances out of any medium armour set, and it looks beautiful too.
I end up the Blood and Wine's DLC with about 35.000 coins and I was trying to craft a gransmaster witcher armor set and just one set only. The rest I spent to dye armor to prepare to play another NG+.
Impossible to craft two grandmaster sets.
horrible idea not having the bonuses until gm level. pointless gear sets for 99% of the game
Well the set bonuses were added as part of Blood and Wine so that's why they are only on the Grandmaster sets.
You can use the Grandmaster armour from level 40 through to the end of Blood and Wine, which is roughly 12-15 levels, and then with the correct build can use them through the majority of New Game Plus.
So, yeah...hard disagree, but if you don't like them you don't have to spend the money on them 👍

In the main town in Toussaint. Grab the Master, Master, Master quest from the notice board and it'll lead you to him.

It is the same on every version of the game, as long as you're selling to the same merchant or Armourer.
I have spent soooo much gd money
how to craft cheap.
step 1: have 30k in dust ready to sell.
🙄 yep great video brah
Way to miss the point of video...brah 😂
Simon no last name well did you expect to craft grandmaster gear with 100 coins... brah? LOL
This is such a fucking pain in the ass. Made me rage quit. I crafted something and then appearently it wasn't the right thing. Damn. Fucking hate it. Who thought that this is a great idea
Sooo confusing
Cheap yes, easy no
I had around 35k before I began the mission to create and max out a set of Bear Witcher Gear, I was down to 7k by the time I had maxed out the 4 pieces of armour alone. I still haven't maxed out the two swords, will wait until I have more money and metallic resources otherwise I will have literally spent 90 hours worth of financial accumulation.
The Manticore swords are nearly as good, and much cheaper to craft. Well worth it imho.
Confusing AF*
*Not necessarily your video (although I'm confused AF, but I'm sure that might be more of a "me" thing, as it seems actually quite well put together and helpful); just crafting components and materials altogether.
I hear you man, it's a complicated process.
