Sorry but I cracked up when you said "Excuse the rubbish everywhere" as if you are the one that's responsible for it LOL. Not a snark rather the politeness cracked me up.
Good to see your process with this focal length. I'm currently using a vintage Auto Chinon 55mm f1.7 on my lumix g3 micro 4/3 so with the crop factor, it's basically now a 110mm lens.😊
I love using this lens. Like you said it's great for isolating and cutting out distractions. I've used it in nature and love it for bnw moody abstract work. I need to get out in the street with it next. Your video has given me some great ideas to start off with. Thanks Roman
I bought the 90/2 by accident. One of my favourite lens on the system. In my experience AF is really fast. Difficult to compose and DoF is razor thin in any settings but it's still a joy to use.
Great video, very enjoyable, ive started using longer focal lengths for street photography, focusing is more difficult but i feel,i can capture people in a more relaxed way.
already told you that on instagram, but your photos are very good, we can feel the different vibe of every country through them, and it is very very pleasing. And I am Vietnamese, so of course I am happy seeing you there ahah
I have gravitated to the 35 and 50mm focal lengths for my street phototherapy. Recently I’ve been using the 90/1.2. My downtown area doesn’t have a lot of people on the street since Covid. Instead, I go to the main tourist attraction and take candid portraits. I love that I can stand back from my subjects and get very nice bokeh. The lens isn’t heavy. It’s my lens. I also enjoy doing intentional camera movement images. It is easy causing blur with this focal length. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
Another super video 👏👏 After following you and James for a while I invested in the Peak Design Bag for my spare lenses walking around town. Fab bag carry’s everything I need but please be careful the local pickpockets think they can have a rummage around when you have it around your back when in a crowded area 😮 Looking at getting a padlock to fit to mine
You've been a massive influence on me getting back into the hobby after years away 👍 Do you remember ur vid when you stated you spent more time ingesting content rather than shooting....because of that I will be invoicing you for gear purchased, including your My Little Photography Book that I'm getting for Christmas, as I've fallen into the same trap and ur to blame 😂
Funny timing. I literally just picked up the Samyang 135 f/1.8 for my A7IV. I am really happy with it so far; it works well to remove distracting elements.
Nice video, thank you. I used to travel quite often to Ha Noi for work when I lived in KL and loved a wander around at 6 am for an hour with my camera. Loads of people up and about already, plenty of photo ops. Same in Saigon too.
Good tips Roman. Too many videos of street shot at the same standard focal lengths. I had great fun with my Nikon Z100-400 wildlife lens shooting street in Indonesia. Embrace the detail and bokeh. I also shoot with standard primes. Next trip is Cambodia with my OM-1 system shooting wildlife, macro, landscape and street. I'll be taking 5 lenses, a teleconverter and a flash for macro focus bracketing. Covering focal lengths from 24 to 840mm. You in the box street guys have it so easy.
This series is so fun, Roman. I really want to go to Vietnam now, based on your episodes. I'll have to do it in the coolest season, though. Afraid I'd melt.
Interesting lens and a nice walk. I for sure wouldn't be shooting a 135 mm equiv by holding a camera at arm's length, though. Do you do this rather than using the viewfinder because it works better for the video with viewers being able to see what you're shooting, or is that your natural way of doing it?
Thanks for the great video! All your videos are always very useful, but this one in particular for me, since I will go to Vietnam soon and I was wondering which lenses to bring. Do you think the 16-80 mm f/4 + 23 mm f/1.4 could be a good choice, based on your experience there? Thanks in advance for your reply and keep up the amazing work 🙏✨🙌
I've been eyeing this lens, too! Curious to hear more about how your work it in with other focal lengths. When you find a scene, do you take establishing shots with an 18mm or 23mm then move to the 90? How and when would you choose this over a 33mm? I guess I'm basically asking for a "Roman Fox's guide to switching lenses" video. 😂
Great video! I'm curious, are you using your Osmo pocket 3 for POV here? If so, how do you mount it? Chest mount? Wide angle lens or standard? Wearable mode? Cheers!
I use the ef85 1.8 on my rebel DSLR always and I actually think that 136mm after crop is my favorite focal length, it's difficult but I got so used to it regardless of all the purple highlights that lens has, now that I have a full frame I want a 135 so badly 😅
Wonderful pictures and video as always. I was wondering though, are you using a Mist Filter? Many of your pictures seem to have that subtle "glow" to them.
The hunter is the photographer who keeps their camera in their pocket until they “see” something compelling enough to pull out their camera and take the shot. The fisherman imagines a potential image and then patiently waits until the image that they envision, unfolds in front of them. This is a slower way to photograph and it takes much more patience.
I ve been lookin at this lens for AGES and now im wondering if a 75 mm like the viltrox f1.2 could do the same job even tho is slightly less tele?? Thanks man your videos always clarify doubts that I do not even know I have yet. 😄
@@snapsbyfox I still have it but I’m not a fan of aperture ring. First it was too loose, without tactile feeling. Yesterday I accidentally bumped to A position. Couldn’t move it out of it. Finally when it move ring is loud as hell now when changing aperture. I guess quality isn’t best.
Hi Roman, i really enjoyed this video! I'm looking to use more telephoto lenses. Do you think having IBIS or not in the camera is advantage for these types of lenses? I planning to get either fujifilm xt3 or xt5
In the early 2000s I bought Nikon manual focus 85, 105 and 135 lenses (really cheap because all the sensible people were getting into digital!) and the 135 was my least favourite and least useful of the three, and the 85 was the most useful. The 135 is on the edge of being too long for general use but you've found some interesting shots here. I assume you missed a few potential shots as well because the lens was too long?
Shall I film the video with my third hand then? It boggles my mind how there are people who genuinely dont understand that and ask why I am shooting with one hand lmao
Would love to see the same video but with the xf60, think you would be pleasantly shocked. Also don't you dare leave Vietnam without renting a moped...
Sorry but I cracked up when you said "Excuse the rubbish everywhere" as if you are the one that's responsible for it LOL. Not a snark rather the politeness cracked me up.
I guess that’s being British lol
James Popsys and Roman Fox in one video - this is the best.
Now we wait for the video from James with Roman in the background 😂
Ahhhh, the XF90 f2... Such a wonderful lens. Thanks for taking us along!
I'm glad you ended up keeping the 90. You’re a good fisherman
Bro, your works has always been inspiring but it’s been so incredible recently!
💯
Agreed! Gone up another level recently! Class.
Good to see your process with this focal length.

Fanstastic Lens! ❤
Your videos are great. And you explain better than many on this platform

really nice this type of videos, walking and talking explaining your thinking. Tell James to do the same!

Great lens and you did get some shots using, and a big yes for the abstract. For sure Hanoi looks a crazy place.
Roman and James = The Go-To Squad
Amazing work and beautiful sights to see! Roman, peace is one of my favorite things. I understand.☺️
Hanoi---my town!
Come back to that market between 11pm and 5am. It's crazy busy!
Love me a Hanoi road crossing. Great shots as always Roman!
This series is so fun, Roman. I really want to go to Vietnam now, based on your episodes. I'll have to do it in the coolest season, though. Afraid I'd melt.
I just picked up this lens today. Looking forward to trying it out
Roman, I just wanna say that I recently bought your Lightroom Preset Pack and I really liked it. It will make easier my work. Thank you!
The compression is nice with this type of use also.
I used to own this lens for a few months, and I love it
I’m excited to see more photographers discovering my second home❤️ Hà Nội is a world class street photography city.
I really liked these colors!
Very cinematic lens! Some great shots.
Nice one! Reality enjoyed this walk 🙏🏽
Interesting lens and a nice walk. I for sure wouldn't be shooting a 135 mm equiv by holding a camera at arm's length, though. Do you do this rather than using the viewfinder because it works better for the video with viewers being able to see what you're shooting, or is that your natural way of doing it?
Only for videos. With these lenses you need two hands really
Thanks for the walk
The exhaust inhaled alone in that environment would cause a headache…
Great tour of Hanoi. Thank you.
Thanks for the great video! All your videos are always very useful, but this one in particular for me, since I will go to Vietnam soon and I was wondering which lenses to bring. Do you think the 16-80 mm f/4 + 23 mm f/1.4 could be a good choice, based on your experience there? Thanks in advance for your reply and keep up the amazing work 🙏✨🙌
Yeah for sure! That’s an ideal combo tbh
@ thanks a lot for replying Roman! And have a great continuation of your Travel in Vietnam!
Recently got myself an 85mm for my crop, so it's more like 135mm. Need to get used to it, for sure.
I've been eyeing this lens, too! Curious to hear more about how your work it in with other focal lengths. When you find a scene, do you take establishing shots with an 18mm or 23mm then move to the 90? How and when would you choose this over a 33mm?

I’ve made videos about this a while ago however I have a blog on this very topic in the pipeline to write in next coming days
Great video! I'm curious, are you using your Osmo pocket 3 for POV here? If so, how do you mount it? Chest mount? Wide angle lens or standard? Wearable mode? Cheers!

It's been a few months since I last used my 90mm, time to take it out
I haven’t watched the whole video yet, but just thinking that if you can’t get it to work, I’d be happy to try to make it work🤣🤣
Wonderful pictures and video as always. I was wondering though, are you using a Mist Filter? Many of your pictures seem to have that subtle "glow" to them.
Thanks! nah, all editing
My favorite lens i took amazing documentary photos with her. In 70% of my work i use it. But other 30% is 33mm f/1.4 also brilliant lens.
what do you mean by hunter/fisher?
just getting into photography
love the videos
The hunter is the photographer who keeps their camera in their pocket until they “see” something compelling enough to pull out their camera and take the shot.
The fisherman imagines a potential image and then patiently waits until the image that they envision, unfolds in front of them. This is a slower way to photograph and it takes much more patience.
The inverted image at 4:22 makes more sense if viewed the right way up.
I ve been lookin at this lens for AGES and now im wondering if a 75 mm like the viltrox f1.2 could do the same job even tho is slightly less tele?? Thanks man your videos always clarify doubts that I do not even know I have yet. 😄
I've eyed the Samyang 75mm myself. Better fit if street and travel are the main use cases, since it's so small.
Viltrox 75mm is a beast in terms of size.
@kamilpotato3764 yes 90 mm seems more slim, f2 perks I guess
It can but it’s heavy and massive. Unless you will almost always shoot at night, it’s not worth it. I had it for a few months
@@snapsbyfox I still have it but I’m not a fan of aperture ring. First it was too loose, without tactile feeling. Yesterday I accidentally bumped to A position. Couldn’t move it out of it. Finally when it move ring is loud as hell now when changing aperture. I guess quality isn’t best.
gracias por tu video, un saludo
Hi Roman, i really enjoyed this video! I'm looking to use more telephoto lenses. Do you think having IBIS or not in the camera is advantage for these types of lenses? I planning to get either fujifilm xt3 or xt5
hmmm I’d say yes. IBIS is a big bonus. Maybe look at XT4 as it has IBIS and is cheaper than XT5
Yeah missed loads, but it’s part of the parcel. If I only shoot with a 28mm, it would be the same in reverse
I thought the focal length was 27mm = 40mm 😅 because I have problem working with that focal length
Taking those pictures with one hand...even shaking a bit...
😂
Shall I film the video with my third hand then? It boggles my mind how there are people who genuinely dont understand that and ask why I am shooting with one hand lmao
@snapsbyfox I love your videos, man...following you...
Don't be so touchy...
Thanks a lot for your service to the community !
📷
That's a great photos, FUJI should sponsor you!
Would love to see the same video but with the xf60, think you would be pleasantly shocked. Also don't you dare leave Vietnam without renting a moped...
Do you ever use the viewfinder or do you always shoot using the rear screen?
I often use it yes, however for videos it makes more sense to use the screen
Video idea: how do you organize your photos?
Playing real life Frogger in Hanoi 😮
It seems criminal to be here first. Hi Roman !
damn, i had this lens, too bad I sold it.
Chào mừng bạn đến Việt Nam
Why you shot by xh2s?
Yep, looks a bit busy there.
what body firmware are you using?
I think the latest one that’s a little shit with AF
I'd love to see all the photography RUclipsrs move to Odysee
What? A picture out of focus on an XH2s? ..... never.
