Rachel, you might want to watch the film again. It's a 3 hour film and it's written in archaic syntax, a bit like Shakespeare. It's really easy to miss something. At approximately 2:32:00 a song called "Jhalak Jhalak" plays and the aforementioned 'dancer', Chandramukhi, appears from a temple ringing a bell and in a brown dress. The lyrics in the verse of this song elude to Devdas asking for "a single glance of her" [the woman he loves]. For once, he is referring to Chandramukhi and not Paro. There is also what I consider one of the top 10 scenes in the film, where the dancer is wearing red and the convo up until approximately 2:42:00 is Devdas admitting that he loves her. The next scene where the dancer is wearing orange with a scarf on her head, Devdas also reaffirms his love and says that he doesn't judge her, even though others will in this life and that if they ever meet again in the afterlife, he will NEVER be able to part from her again. This is effectively the last time Chandramukhi sees Devdas before he leaves to see Paro. So, there are 3 tiered levels of love confession that Dev shares for the dancer and it's some of the most poetic and well-derived dialogue from the novel, on which the film is based. It's my favourite Hindi film; you're welcome 😉

He does finally admits that he loves Chandramukhi but leaves her to go to Paro to die as he has promised her earlier in the movie. That final scene was actually the best and heartbreaking

Then she retured and made a come back to movies with Devdas and some other movies. She was past her prime. In 9 decades this movie has been made 6 times in different eras. The first devdas came in 1934 and then many times. Paro and devdas were childhood lovers but they didn't got married and paro was forcibly arranged married to other person and the love birds were separated.

The brothel dancer is legendary actress and equally legendary dancer Madhuri Dixit who lived here in Colorado for a few years with her husband and 2 sons.
