That was greatest ever B-52 display ever seen . Scary, dramatic & unforgettable. Thanks for posting this excellent video of a great show at Mildenhall. It must be the most missed of all the airshows that no longer run. Happy days. Cheers.
Brilliant airshow, great video footage. I went to airshows at RAF Leuchars in Fife in the sixties until my last one in 2009. There's always a touch of sadness reminiscing about shows gone by. BUT GREAT TO SEE THIS VIDEO. THANKS
I notice how the red arrows were a lot better than than they are now.they have lost their sparkle.i was at this show and again in 1991 how I miss going to the home of the burger and the bud.thanks for sharing this film of the good old days
Yes I make you right Andy the Red Arrows display is not what it used to be and not as dynamic I have seen them twice this year and there display was disapointing.......the Mildenhall airshow was always the best show of the year back in the day..........you couldnt be a good bud and burger and watching the amazing aircraft.......Cheers Barry
Yeah airshows in the Uk especially have become almost boring and pointless unless your at an airfield. The CAA have pushed display lines out further and further from the crowdline, seasside shows are terrible for this. You need a 500-600mm lens for decent photos, or good binocs. It`s health and safety gone mad, I have been attending airshows for over 50 years and it`s only the big shows like RIAT that you get a good look at the aircraft, but RIAT and accom, travel costs etc are getting ridiculous. My main gripe with RIAT and other shows is under 16`s get in free with a paying adult, why ? Kids get bored quickly, the come down to the display line, barge in front of you when you trying to take photos or video, then proceed to bounce the safety crowdline rope-grrrr. Plaus the constant prattle from them is so annoying. yes I am a grumpy old man.
Thanks for the upload of this! Reminds me of being a kid again going to air shows! It's a shame they are so far away these days, the experience isn't the same!
So many great memories of Air Fetes, perhaps the best was the SR-71 one engine in re-heat, the other at idle, full opposite rudder doing a low, slow pass, brilliant! TonyS
I went to the airshow then, I was 6 years old. I remember going to a few after that too, my dad was based at RAF Honington and we lived in Stanton on the married patch, so we were pretty close to Mildenhall.
Superb filming knowing the equipment of the time. Galaxy approach perspective to ground, top notch. I remember looking up as the Shackleton roared overhead. My Dad and I often spent time at the same location outside on the Sunday, being inside on Saturday. Thanks for sharing, many happy childhood memories were created at Mildenhall Air Fete. You brought them back to life.
i came in 1990 with my late dad late friend &and 2 of my air cadets and once parked up with car started counting the smoke plumes from the burger bars and they thought i was counting planes in the static lol
Those airshows are gone for good. And so are most of the aircraft types. The period of man's existance during which these machines thundered through the skies was very short and while we will never see the variety of military aircraft that proliferated in the few decades after the last war, those who did see them will never forget them. Mildenhall was one of the very best of the airshows; an annual mecca for anyone wanting to see the very latest military hardware the west had to offer. Great times, sadly missed, fondly remembered.
Your comment sums it up entirely, well said sir. It was an unforgettable era as a boy growing up through the 80's and 90's with a Pentax SLR my father handed down to me, who began his military aviation photography in the 60's and 70's. I always said I was born a decade or two too late to benefit the most from the cold war aviation spectacle. The airshow scene has never been the same since the 2000's onwards. Mildenhall was always special. Those gorgeous evenings, blue skies, fluffly clouds, soft light, made for excellent static shots when the crowds had gone home. I was getting heavily into knowing squadrons and types, when the USAFE went home in 1993, and we lost many of the bases to become car graveyards.
Not fair I have been to probably 60 air shows in America and have never seen any jets from Europe. But yet they get to see all our fighters. Looked like it was a amazing show
Wow Barry you should be very proud of that video, well done and the B52 display is one of the scariest displays that i have ever seen. Very VERY Well Done. Best regards Stu Bear
Thanks Stu.......yes the Mildenhall Air Fete was something special, pitty airshows aren't as good these days.......Imagine the size of the crowd if there was a Display line up like Mildenhall......thanks for your comment.......Regards Barry

1990…that was a fine year for air power. Miss those old birds, and the shows were so great in those days.
I was there and still go to Mildenhall every year plane spotting even at 66😊

The sound of the C-5A GE turbofan engines get me every time
I was probably there. Mildenhall was one of the best airshows. It just outgrew itself, and security
became a big issue.

7:00 the Red Arrows, I had the chance to watch them live two years before this, just over our house. Unforgettable.
The F-16 was in a league of its own then. It's manoverablity /agility was unmatched..
40:07 WTF?👍👍👍👍👍
I don't recall whether I went to the 1990 show. I started going in 81. Maybe 89 was the last time.
This video has the PROPER VULCAN HOWEL!!! Only Sqn Ldr Paul Millikin could do it!!!!! Nobody does it better!!!!!

I remember the SR71 Blackbird leaving America and arriving at Mildenhall. I think it took about 2.5 hours.
