It's amazing how somebody made a Sonic Boom episode with far better writing and less of a budget which ended up far more entertaining than the actual creators.
Best Sonic Boom episode, it made me laugh and felt like the jokes unfolded naturally through everything. If you were up to it, I would love to see more.
A properly produced version of this, with some of the rougher bits polished out would be amazing, personally I liked it a lot better than the actual show
Roger you just murdered my funny bone. Someone needs to call Bill Freiberger and show him this: "HERE is how you handle a Sonic the Hedgehog comedy!" Everything fits and has a payoff, even Sticks' random screaming and quirks have a purpose. Knuckles is dumb but not really, Sonic is bored with the world and yet he's motivated, you just took everything that already existed in Sonic Boom and actually gave them a legitimate reason for being other than "they just are." Bravo!
So I saw the original episode and well......nothing happens. Literally nothing exciting or worth our time happens. Sonic needs to get the book back but he keeps stalling for reasons he could've easily solved had his ego not gotten in the way. None of the villagers give him a good reason to stop what he's doing, he could've easily run around the elderly people walking or simply jump over them and just gotten the book back BEFORE stopping to get a chili dog. It's like he's not even using his head. This just confirms this ideology that I've been talking about before how kid comedy shows nowadays (boom in particular) don't seem interested or invested with their premises enough to make good ideas out of it. They all feel like they work on checklists on how each episode should be written juggling the same tropes and ideas in the most basic ways possible. I think that the best comedy comes from how far you can take an idea and expand on it more generating bigger reactions. It's like the old saying acting is reacting. That's why most successful sitcoms work not only for good writing but the actors who react strongly to everything around them. Think of Sheldon Copper or Carlton from fresh prince. In boom, it's rather disappointing especially since they're cartoons. You think that the fact that they're cartoons they'd go really far as demonstrated here with aliens, tornadoes etc, but nope. Sonic acts like he's bored, everyone in the show are either grumpy or pretentious to one another and the whole thing takes place in this little uneventful ghost town that's only populated when the animators need to in a shot. This actually brings me to my next point if they really couldn't have done this due to budget concerns it strongly suggests how boom should've been a 2D animated show instead. 2D just feels more in place with the genre. Animators aren't limited to models who don't have a vast ray of funny emotions that you can achieve in 2D. And all these problems with bigger set pieces that have to be modeled and rigged would be cleared up with extra background drawings and renders to get the idea across. I mean you managed to make a really funny cartoon with flash using crude scribbles and such but already it delivers a far more entertaining product. Even the comic version illustrated by Tracey Yardley was admittedly superior because of the colorful and wacky artstyle.
layman terms, the animation could have been in 2d, shows for children aren't as funny as they used to be, and now it feels as if shows are on a checklist for what they should do for an episode. Simple is better.
Yeah I can understand why you concerned about going over budget with script like that. Well done would watch other episodes Rogerized. Wish it was official.
Upon viewing both, I can definitely say this one was written better. Subtle foreshadowing, characters acting as they did in previous games, joke execution, etc. The only thing I liked about the actual show was the running gag with the old people (maybe a little overplayed though). I do have a little nitpick with this though. If the book was rented out using the same library card that is now in Eggman's possession, wouldn't Eggman get fined as he was the cardholder instead of Amy?
Yes she did, however Sonic couldn't return the book because the cardholder was Eggman, yet the signature and picture were both of Amy. If the book was rented out under the same card, would that not in turn make the new cardholder responsible? If you can still explain to me that Amy would get fined for the book, then why does the library card matter for returns? As long as the book gets returned on time, then the card should not matter. The only other thing I could think of is just having a return box like most librarys do (assuming not all libraries do).
You're absolutely right, it doesn't make sense at all. Of course, the entire library rule system here is to mock bureaucracy and incompotent goverment regulations and administration to begin with. So I have the avantage that any plothole I cause with their stupid system only adds to the satire. The stupider and non-sensical the system is, the better it works for the joke. Hooray for me. If I have to make a "logical" explanation for the entire mess, I'd say Eggman abused the library system in an unseen previous episode (Imagine him sneaking in some robots disguised as books to cause havoc) and as a consequence, the library implanted a rushed and badly designed rule system to guard against further evil scemes. And then in true bureaucratic fashion, this security system only makes it harder to regular people using the system correctly, while cheating bad guys like Dr. Eggman can still do whatever they want. So you might call it an unrealistic plothole, I would call it a tragically realistic commentary on the real world.
Well, you got me there. I was just going off of the information on the show, and I suppose it's not unreasonable to make up some excuse for this library system. After all, people make up assumptions or theories all the time from what we can connect. Maybe I just wanted an official answer? Whatever the reason, maybe I was going to far for a nitpick. Thank you for answering though!
Ben faulstick For the wrong reasons. AOSTH at least stopped making a lot of episodes (by making a clipshow no less), because of fear in decreasing in quality. AOSTH gave us a good chunk of 65 episodes. I don't want Sonic Boom to turn into Bubsy. Bubsy may be unfunny for some people, but I hear that other liked him, and I do like some of the stuff he appeared in (mostly the first and second games, plus the pilot). But if Sonic is copying an already unfunny character who's trying to rip off Sonic in the first place, this is wrong in so many levels!
+Slizergiy If the writers of the show would stop making eternal "knuckles is dumb" jokes to remember he's also supposed to be strong and a nature man, then yeah, he would totally do something like that on the show.
I really liked how you made an interesting plot and also made knuckles intelligent and at the same time balanced between comedy and story! Great job! (also I would've liked it better if sonic turned super at the end)
Whether it's " better" is up to the audience to decide, but my intention was to demonstrate how I would have preferred the show, that is among others: More energy and action driven. The actual show is way too mellow and unfocused to be about a speeding cartoon hedgehog fighting robot commanding dictators to my liking. Far as the individual characters are concerned: Sonic is more driven and has a larger pallet of emotions. I don't like how he's always bored and detached on the show. Amy's supposed personality is more outspoken and cartoonish. Her "Martha stewart/ team mom" personality is so vague and undefined in the show that I barely get a grap on her supposed personality. Knuckles is no longer just braindead stupid, now more eccentric and simple minded. His "man of nature"personality that's supposed to define him actually shows up. His strenght actually matters now. Sticks random crazy personality is more focused in her being the wild Tarzan esque figure she's supposed to be, as opposed to her just being random screaming person. Her " paranoid but surprisingly always correct" personaltiy trait also has more emphesis. Eggman now jumps more between his more lighthearted wacky goofy neighbourhood bully in mundane situations set up from the show and the darker intense Robot army commanding dictator he is in the games, so there's more comedic contrast. I feel he's wasted on the show as the "Evil bad guy stuck dealing with stupid mundane problems" joke. It never packs any punch when he's always a goofy demented old man non-stop. Tails and Orbot/Cubot and the villagers stay the same as I'm okay with them. Also as I already hinted at in the Eggman discription, I play a lot more with the "contrast between high adventure and frustrating mundanity of life" opposites in this cartoon than the show ever did, especailly with Sonic's talk with the librarian while being sucked away by the Tornado. The show's lack of energy, stakes and narrative thrust makes it that it's potentially funny concepts never have the punch and spice I would like them to have, making the show a bit too dull for my tastes.
My frustration with the show has led me to seek out many reviews analyizing why it falls short. It's fascinating that such a simple show can have so many subtle reasons explaining why it doesn't quite come together the way it should.
I'd also guess that Sonic Boom is not one person's vision but a committees hence there is little consistency because its a bunch of different ideas from different people.
Toad Lash A very strong point! Since Sonic Boom has no real continuity, and the episodes reset, many other writers share in the production of episodes--adding their own ideas and plots.
Patrick Petty Yeah and more then just the show, the entire Sonic Boom brand is a giant pile up of individual ideas fighting for attention. It already started when the more straight and adventure driven Sonic synergy was merged with cartoony wacky Sonic Boom, and then the original brains behind these projects were replaced by people with no investment in those original concepts and then doing their own thing and turning it into a mellow sitcom instead. With Rise of Lyric and ESPECIALLY Shattered crystal being in an awkward inbetween void with no idea what direction to pursue. While I´m sure a series combing high adventure, comedy slapstick and mundane sitcom humor could work and be great (Futurama comes to mind), that can only happens when all those elements get equal respect and understanding and are at the foundation. Where in Sonic Boom, all it´s components indeed just feels extremely commity esque. An unstable tower build on abondonned ruins of others. Altough Sonic Boom fire and ice does a decent job finally finding a more solid balance. That game surprised me.
I love how there was literally no reason to stop the Beaver from getting lemonade Like it wouldn't have meant he closed the library sooner or anything.
This was fantastic! Amy is doing something that fits her supposed leader/activist role for once (even though she goes into full blown absurdity with her benevolence), Sonic at least seems to not be completely bored and apathetic, Knuckles's portrayal finally included his supposed love of nature (what with him enjoying that tornado) and him being an actual powerhouse, being unefficient but still very effective (what with continuously turning that building) and Eggman is actually not buddy-buddies with Sonic and friends. It's glorious! The only minor gripes I'ld have are with Knuckles slightly stealing the show and Tails could have given some aerial support fighting the aliens. Speaking of which, a few seconds after Sticks mentioned "purple creatures" I said to myself: "Oh no... Rog is gonna bring the 'black arms' into this, isn't he?" And lo-and-behold the parallels were staggering. And I loved it. And considering the time constraints you were under my two gripes are truly negligible. So props, Roger, that was very entertaining. I take my hat off to you. P.s.: as great as this "Rogification" was, I quickly drowned out the thought to suggest you as the new head-writer for the show. I mean I'm sure you'ld be able to raise the quality standard by a lot (not a very difficult task to accomplish admittedly), but I'd really hate to see it drain you of all your lifeforce.
+Dragonknight20xx Sticks calling them Purple creatures is mostly just me sidestepping her calling them "aliens". Keep her grounded as the savage Tarzan, so she should refer to them in more simple and tribe like words. I think the biggest challenge for me as main writer is to make every episode last exactly 11 minutes all the time. I aleady tried so hard to make this one 11 minutes and came a minute short, so that would mean I have to ruin the pace and add a minute of screentime somewhere. I suppose that means I could have given Tails a more prominent role with that minute.
Is it just me or does the annoying beaver guy seem more enjoyable than how he was in the show? In the show, he just shows up to correct people when they saw “Who” instead of “whom,” while he’s only doing his job and gives the library book back when he sees the gang is stressed. This version is a considerate person, and obviously far more enjoyable!
I love your reimagined take on the episode! XD You can tell the same story so many different ways. Nicely done. Alos, props for making it as long as the actual show would be.
Well, you got me Roger. I love it! I wil admit though, i' m very fond of Boom Eggman, so seeing him being scary is not my cup of tea, the "kill Sonic" was not needed, but hey, the episode is indeed better than the original episode! I love how Knuckles was in the middle of the tornado like he just didn't care.
+Henry T It's weird, I do like Eggman being a threatening villain, but Boom Eggman is such an endearing character to me I don't mind the fact that he's more the annoying neighbor character as opposed to an actual villain.
+NintenDex You guys do realize that he made Boom Eggman like this, because if you want to portray Eggman as some Evil Military like person... DO IT! Don't waste it on making him a bumbling idiot!
Henry T But NintenDex just said "I don't mind the fact that he's more the annoying neighbor character as opposed to an actual villain" Indicating that he prefered Eggman being an idiot and no longer a serious threat.
What's funny is that all this needs is the 3-D animation and you got a show that's clearlyworthy of rivaling the actual series. The best improvement was Knuckles. I've always been so sick of how Knuckles is a brainless sort who can't seem to tell his left from his right (and knows nothing of survival? From a guy who started out all alone on Angel Island? Please...) and you made him competent and used his strength in a very interesting and actually comical way by swapping the hallway direction. That gets me every time. xD And Robotnik was actually more fearsome! Like others who commented, I do wish to see more. The writing is better, the characters are better and even though the animation isn't like the actual show, I'd watch your version every time.
I like it more than the official series already. It does showcase how pointless Tails' character is comedically since he's already surrounded by down to earth cynicists and has little to add. I thought the book was gonna be "how to get into a chili dog expo without paying" or something like that.
+Generic Name Yeah Tails is utterly pointless in the series. Sonic is already the straight man. Tails is like, the second straight man. Problem is as part of a comedic team, that makes him useless. So hey they got that right since they've been trying to make him useless and lamer for years. Even Sticks who I really don't like, at least offers something different. Sonic the straight man. Amy the...girl. Knuckles is dumb. Sticks is wacky and paranoid. Tails is....Sonic again but lamer since he's the poorest combatant, and offers a role nobody really cares about. He's defined by his hobbies rather than different personality and comedic role.
+Generic Name & +Kanzenshuu dbzfan7 I agree and disagree true Tails is like Sonic 2 (get it?) in Boom, the straight man but i would argue that he is not a Sonic clone with tech geek part of his character. But he dose seem a bit more upbeat and "softer"-less likely to get frustrated than Sonic but also much less of a risk taker so as a result gets less to do.
Toad Lash The point I make is the biggest separation is the hobby. The hobby defines him. Of course I exaggerate with Sonic clone, but I mean more that in the comedic job. His role is the exact same. He could even be called a somewhat different flavour of Sonic when it comes to purpose. But that ignores the different quirks, which really don't matter, as like every other character, they're not consistent quirks. They bend to the will of the writer. Which leaves the comedic role as the only constant. That constant, is something Sonic already covers.
Heh, hadn't thought of that. Oops. Altough considering what a half assed attempt they did in transferring it to the new one, I suppose it's still possible the billing adress is Amy's, like how her photo wasn't updated either.
Or maybe because she was the one that took the book out it was still linked to her account, although on second thought what library requires a library card to return books?
TheObsidianX Well, I'd imagine in a town where there's always Eggman hanging around screwing things up, there would be extra security. Like, it's easy to imagine in a previous adventure that Eggman put evil robot spy books into the library for some evil sceme, so that the library card security was increased later to prevent that happening again. (And then they hand Eggman his own library card later anyway, because Ofcourse the bureaucracy in Sonic Boom's universe must be just as incompotent if not worse then ours. Only concerned about following the rules while completely forgetting why those rules were created to begin with.)
I quite literally went and watched the real episode after watching this one to see what was different. ...And as it turns out, the only thing that happened was Sonic repeatedly going astray.
this could pass as a real episode of boom.
gravitybreaker1 No, it can't.
It's too good to be one.
Yeah, that's actually a good point, it could if sega actually listened

Sonic is the opposite of Sonic which makes him Sonic. Perfect episode to put out on April Fool's Day.
You would get fired?! THEY WOULD WANT YOU TO MAKE ALL EPISODES! THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER!
This is legitimately better than the original. Wow...

Best Sonic Boom episode, it made me laugh and felt like the jokes unfolded naturally through everything. If you were up to it, I would love to see more.
A properly produced version of this, with some of the rougher bits polished out would be amazing, personally I liked it a lot better than the actual show

Too bad, so sad.
This is better, and the actual show is great.

@@HunterIsRad how do you write in bold writing
Evan Vietrinas * sentence * no spaces.
Fractorification. sonic boom jiddkkkdkdjdlsks😎😍🌹
layman terms, the animation could have been in 2d, shows for children aren't as funny as they used to be, and now it feels as if shows are on a checklist for what they should do for an episode. Simple is better.
Fractorification vvbg
Fractorification wall of text.
And then season two comes out and destroys everything you said.

7:53 Chaos Emeralds In Sonic boom confirmed.
this version of sonic boom is more funnier than the actual tv show.
Amy used it to rent the book first so Eggman wouldn't get the fine since Amy was the one to rent the book.
@@Rogerregorroger But why would someone need a donated library card? Does the village library charge for them?

Maybe you should write for Sonic Boom Roger. Yours was way funnier than the actual show.
the shows pretty funny
Ben faulstick No, AOSTH is funny. It's more similar to the Adam West Batman show than Sonic Boom is.
Robert Walker well its pretty popular and its renewed for a new season. So obviously people are liking it
Ben faulstick For the wrong reasons.
Robert Walker Well I think it's pretty good. Definitely looking forward to the improvements for season 2 :)
The bit about Knuckles in the tornado...
I could totaly see him doing just that.
7:00 when your mom has a gift for you but you get interrupted
Why is this better than the official TV show?
Whether it's " better" is up to the audience to decide, but my intention was to demonstrate how I would have preferred the show, that is among others:
More energy and action driven. The actual show is way too mellow and unfocused to be about a speeding cartoon hedgehog fighting robot commanding dictators to my liking.
Far as the individual characters are concerned:
Sonic is more driven and has a larger pallet of emotions.
Toad Lash
A very strong point! Since Sonic Boom has no real continuity, and the episodes reset, many other writers share in the production of episodes--adding their own ideas and plots.
Patrick Petty
Yeah and more then just the show, the entire Sonic Boom brand is a giant pile up of individual ideas fighting for attention.
I love how there was literally no reason to stop the Beaver from getting lemonade

This was way funnier when I watched the actual episode...
Funny because this show Introduced me to sonic.
I suppose that means I could have given Tails a more prominent role with that minute.
wow this actually had more plot than the actual show XD
They say Sonic Boom is great... liars.
I was expecting a loud ear rape explosion when the ufo crash...

I love your reimagined take on the episode! XD
You can tell the same story so many different ways.
***** Ditto.
+NintenDex You guys do realize that he made Boom Eggman like this, because if you want to portray Eggman as some Evil Military like person... DO IT! Don't waste it on making him a bumbling idiot!
Robert Walker I thought he meant "more competent", but still with a bumbling side. Not a complete moron like the Boom show.
Henry T But NintenDex just said "I don't mind the fact that he's more the annoying neighbor character as opposed to an actual villain" Indicating that he prefered Eggman being an idiot and no longer a serious threat.
Better than the actual episode.
This is actually really good. Well done.
This isn't a parody, this is just better than the actual show.
You can Be new writer for the show 👍🏼
4:20"Oh right, must stop S- Oh dear." Orbot, 2016
hahaha, this was fun. I like what you did with the characters, Eggman works very well as a more-menacing-but-still-funny nemesis.
You look like sonic

if amy donated her library card to eggman then wouldn't he be given the penalty fee, and not amy, because it's his card now?
Heh, hadn't thought of that. Oops.
Altough considering what a half assed attempt they did in transferring it to the new one, I suppose it's still possible the billing adress is Amy's, like how her photo wasn't updated either.
Or maybe because she was the one that took the book out it was still linked to her account, although on second thought what library requires a library card to return books?
TheObsidianX
Well, I'd imagine in a town where there's always Eggman hanging around screwing things up, there would be extra security.
You should totally make more of these--this was totally great :)
