My grandma was 97 when she passed. Her and her best girlfriend from childhood, married their husbands raised many children and eventually became widows. I remember them laughing and giggling like 16, knitting, crocheting and making baskets. Their hands were never idle. My grandmas little fingers were nearly transparent with large knuckles and a ring that spun freely behind it. They remained friends until they passed not far in dates from each other. My grandmas name was Dorothy...but I always loved her friends name..Harriet. The best women, i learned to cook,, bake, knit etc. Anyway I love Harriet as a name :)
have your husband make you a warping board. really simple. it'll save so much money and you'll love it. i divide my pattern into easily workable sections and then put them on post its and hang them across the top of the loom. i keep track of involved patterns with pennies. move them as you complete a pic. you're going to have so much fun.
I admire your fearlessness and how you keep learning new skills. I hope I don't fall don't the rabbit-hole of weaving. Knitting, spinning and crochet is more than enough to keep me busy. But your weaving is beautiful.
I took up weaving because some of my handspun didn't look right to me knitted or crocheted even trying multiple project. What is there to be scared of? They're making more thread right now!
Omg, I clicked on the link to see what the pattern was and I have the same warp, for the same towels on my Harrisville! All I've woven on that one is the header, because I have too many looms going at the same time and i got distracted by spinning and SE2SE and fell right done THAT rabbit hole. LOL! I have a neat metal clipboard I bought a few years for using with knitting patterns and it works so well for complicated weaving. I clip the pattern to the metal and use thin strips of magnets to move through the design. Also, I highly recommend getting some boat shuttles. It will change your life. :)
I have a friend who is a fiber artist, and she weaves and free-style quilts. She tried to talk me into getting a floor loom, but I couldn't get past the price!! So rigid heddle for me. She would bring her 22" (6 or 8 shaft) table loom to some craft shows where they let people demo their craft. EVERYONE would come over to see what she was doing, and she would let a few very interested try their hand at it and weave some. I like to think she got some people started in weaving. Really nice pattern Trish. Love the colors!
Hi Trish, just seen a "Beginner Over shot weaving" Just come up on my feed. The lady i Party Anne Places Its from 7yrs ago but its done on a loom like yours. Hope this helps. Happy weaving spinning. Take care & stay safe 💘 Jen xx All your weavings are below this on my feed . That's how I saw this lady. Love & hugs. Jen. Xxxx
Looks good so far Trish! I was gifted a 70 year old four shaft floor loom that is completely apart with minimal instructions to put it together. The price was certainly right but it’s taking me time to wash down all the wood and get the rust off everything. I have three more shafts to go and the back warp beam and then I’ll start assembling it. Sooooo, I’ll be back to watch you with yours because I’m sure I’ll need lots of instruction to figure it all out. In the meantime, good luck with yours! I know you’ll be a pro in no time!
Oh, how I wish I had your confidence! Sounds like a really cool project. You'll be able to say you put it together, and cleaned it all up and everything!
@@FiberLoveDiary LOL I'm not so sure how confident I am but IF I can pull this off I will be quite pleased with myself. I'm just itching to weave on it, there's no instant gratification with this project. The song "Anticipation" keeps playing in my head hahaha
Hmmm.....hardworking and a little temperamental...Liza? I am still learning my wee rigid heddle loom, and I will be looking for a weaving glossary to understand “tabby” and “overshot”. I’m glad you’re having fun with the process!
Thank you for sharing your process. Excellent video. I can relate to the craziness of checking heddles over and over again. Vavstuga has fantastic videos for practical ways to not screw up weaving. Weaving is not easy. It is amazing how much we take for granted because of factory weaving and computer tech. Hand weaving is a huge skill!
I love that you did overshot on a 4 harness! To see the process is very helpful. I am still trying to wrap my brain around reading the drafts. The new girl looks nice! I have a 60" Nilus LeClerc. Bertha takes up a LOT of space but couldn't pass her up for the price. I am blessed to have the space to keep her.
Someday I'll have that kind of weaving space! I had been eyeing this towel pattern for a really long time, so as soon as I had a teeny bit of warping experience I just had to try it 😂😂
Someday I want a floor loom. I caught the weaving bug thanks to your videos. I don’t have room for one until my kids move out, so it will have to wait 😂
Congratulations!! Way more fun to be had!! As soon as you listed her attributes I thought of the name Gertrude.... “Gert” or” dirty Gert”for short... don’t ask where that came from....😂 thanks for sharing!
Love seeing you enjoy your new work mate! Lol I wish you many years with your new floor loom. Hope you stay well, safe, and happy! Can't wait for your next video. Have A Blessed Day!
Hi Trish, I'm loving your new Floor Loom. The colours that you're using seem so jewel like. I've only ever seen "Overshot " technique done on a Lap Loom, so was brilliant seeing it used in this way. Happy Weaving & Spinning. Take care, stay sake & keep well. Love Jen xx England
lol I am in OHIO WOO HOO, lol Love your loom, So apparently we are not far from each other, YAY, lol Thanks for sharing, LOVE Love love your channel and all your silly videos and all your spinning and your adorable little puppy baby, so cute, You can call your beautiful loom Zanobie, or Helen after Helen Keller who never gave up, Hugs and Blessings
This is beautiful, I love your colours! I don't have name suggestions for the loom, but I may have some tips for the draft. First thing, the pedals. I give them numbers, from right to left: 1 to 6. I tie the pedal 1 (far right) to shaft 1 and 3, and the pedal 6 (far left) to shaft 2 and 4. With those, I can weave tabby. Pedals 2 to 5 are tied like this: pedal 2 --> shaft 1-2, pedal 3 --> shaft 2-3, pedal 4 --> shaft 3-4, pedal 5 --> shaft 4-1. As you are more comfortable, you can change the tie up however it is more efficient. Second, the conversion of the weaving sequence (from top to bottom). This is where the pedal tie up makes sense. Instead of using a grid with squares when weaving , I use the pedal's number. If it is symetric, I draw an arrow up to save space. For example, if the weaving pattern is (a W-like pattern): Shaft 1-2 (+ tabby) 2-3 (+ tabby) 3-4 (+ tabby) 4-1 (+ tabby) 3-4 (+ tabby) 4-1 (+ tabby) 3-4 (+ tabby) 2-3 (+ tabby) 1-2 (+ tabby) I write instead: Pedal 2 3 4 5 4 (arrow up) Third, keeping track of the weaving sequence. You can write it down on another piece of paper and hang it from the castle top. If doing a long sequence, you can use a bobbypin of a trombone to keep track of where you are and slide it down as you go. Does it make sense?
Thank you for all the tips! Treadling seems to be fine, and muscle memory is building really fast, but keeping track of where I am in the draft has been a challenge, because this one is so complicated.
Congratulations on your new floor loom. Your inspiration to try something new is contageous. After mastering my 15" Cricket rigid heddle loom, it would new nice to try a floor loom. I second another poster's suggestion of Rosie for the new girl.
Beautiful pattern! No idea on a name. I'm a harpist and name my harps after the people who give them to me. My favorite is Timmins. She's a 36 string Dusty Strings that my step-mom gave me when I graduated high school. Mom's maiden name is Timmins. 😁
You are the most talented person ever!!!!!! And, so creative!!! Watching your videos, I feel so inadequate 😐😐😲😲🤔🤔🤔🤔. However I keep pushing on!! Thank you for giving me a goal to work towards.
I constantly compare myself to other artists/crafters and think I am so inadequate, so I understand! I'm sure you are doing wonderfully, and don't stop!!
Love the pattern and your colour choice 😃. What I do when I cross stitch with my pattern is I laminate it (I have to go to our library as they can laminate all sizes) so I can follow along I use a dry erase marker and draw a line across the area I just completed. It’s easy to stay on track and clean off so I can use the pattern over and over. I hope this helps 😊
I am so excited you got a floor loom! I love your videos, but quickly became more interested in floor loom weaving!! AHGHGH! Super excited I get to weave with you! My husband is building me a section beam, with a tension box!! I think that is going to be the kicker to making warping easier and more consistent! Here is my overshot sampler currently on my LeClerc 8-shaft jack loom. Ugh! Can’t post a pic.
I love the colors! You are such an inspiration. I'm sure you've heard that a lot, but it is true. Being able to inspire others is a gift. NAME: Not saying this because of my name, but did you know the name "Penny" means "weaver"? Truth! That would be a cute and fitting name.
Thank you so much! I think it is such a blessing to hear that my journey would inspire others. Since I don't really consider myself an expert or a teacher, I feel like it's the very best thing I could hope for! I had never thought about it, but I guess looking back at my mythology, it makes sense that Penny would mean weaver!
I bought a floor loom this past winter, her name is Anna. I'm STILL struggling with warping. It's very different than a RHL. I'm having a hard time *warping*🙃 my mind around the patterns. I'm bound and determined aka stubborn. Not giving up💪I'm in my third warping attempt. I'm very excited to see how you get along. I learn best by seeing things done, I bought a flip book Vavstuga on warping ~ its all photos! 🥰 Your pattern is GORGEOUS! Weaving classes at your place🙏??? Lol
Maybe someday! This was my fourth warp, but third project since the first warp went in the trash 😂😂. It was worth the $4 in yarn to just throw it AWAY.
Looking forward to your ideas on improving the warping process. Right now the only way it gets done on my 36" floor loom is if my husband helps me (and does like 90% of the work).
John is the MVP 🏆 I love watching you weave! My brain struggles to grasp how but maybe one day I’ll give it a try. In regards to keeping track of the pattern I wondered if something like a sticker chart/dry erase board chart might be helpful? That way you can mark your place as you go along. You could attach it to the edge of the chart you have to make it easier to see and follow along? As for the naming what about Angie? A sweet looking lady with a lot of layers who can be a lot of fun as long as you play by her rules. Ready to get to work but also maybe stress you out a little 😂 Hoping you have a wonderful week ahead Trish!
So happy to see you back to your bouncy self! It’s wonderful that you have a new ‘toy,’ amazing how serendipitous that worked out, obviously meant to be! I, however will not be following you down this rabbit hole. (Well, maybe a satori loom someday, I love the freedom of the creativity it allows, but good chance that won’t happen - $$)
I've only woven one overshot piece but I found the key to getting the pattern to come out the right size is a really tight beat. I also use a program called iweaveit on my ipad to track both treadeling and threading. I hope this helps.
I bought a Siever’s loom for $300. It’s similar to yours and I love it. I didn’t know about the double tread for overshot with great outcome. I did take a weaving class with Robyn Spady and she never mentions this. Maybe I’m misunderstanding what you are saying. Anyway, enjoy your journey. 🥰😂
I read it somewhere else, and then it was also specified in the pattern for these towels, so it seems pretty "usual" but I am trying the next set with a single instead. I think it'll be nicer!
What a great find! Hubby is a definite keeper! Your towels are already so beautiful, I wouldn’t want to use them 😀 So looking forward to seeing them completed...lol no pressure 😘😘
I think it looks great with the doubled thread. You should wait until wet finish. I think overshot is usually done with a wool, that is double the thickness of the warp. Wool would not work for towels! Love the new loom. Name her after your favorite actress/singer of the past...Doris!
Love love the towels!!! You are inspiring me to make All the things 😁. As my Mom always said, keep the fighting Irish spirit up ... it comes in handy. How about Dame Dure (tough lady in French) LOL
Yay she's a beauty 😍. I purchased iWeaveIt from playstore for Android, they also have an apple or pc version. The add on (also purchased) has a threading and treadle tracker, which is super helpful. Not too expensive and easy to chart the patterns.
Greetings! Thank you for sharing your weaving journey. While I was watching your video, the name “Beatrice” came to mind even before you mentioned her not having a name. Also, for keeping track of the weaving, I use an old cribbage board. If the pattern repeat isn’t too long, I use thin tape on the side edge of a cribbage board. This allows me to use the score peg to move along the pattern. I sure hope that makes sense.
You got a floor loom, yay! Can’t wait to see what you make with it! I use the iWeave it app for tracking threading and treadling (well lift plans for me since I have a table loom). Well worth it to me. I know there are other apps, too.
Nice work! I have been playing withcthe idea of getting a 4 or 8 shaft table loom instead of just a rigid heddle loom like i had in the states.i am crazzy i know but i like the idea of all the oportunities and choices.
Someone from my local weavers/spinners guild offered to sell me their floor loom, but I’m not too keen to try to lug it up to my 3rd floor apartment. I think I’ll stick with my rigid heddle for now 😆
I really think that's one of the pluses for rigid heddle. They are so easy to move and store! Plus, if you really felt pulled to a floor loom, you would probably not mind lugging it up, so that feeling tells you it's not time to have one in your life!
One more thing the boat shuttle bobbin I saw you could use a plastic straw and when winding it you build up higher at each end and then fill in between and I tried this it works great also my husband make a loom catcher look on my blog for that too it looks like stretcher for a very skinny person I sewed the cloth for it but it holds the shuttles instead of your lap that helped me a lot too and in time you will want more boat shuttles I use other stick shuttles on my rug loom and little bertha
Oh, have you tried using your rigid heddle loom with the warping pegs as a warping board? I recently used my 16" RHL upside down to direct warp my 32" RHL. Also keep in mind I have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to floor looms or winding a warp for them!
Hi Trish, My first thought when you described your new girl as temperamental, hard working, and getting to know her was the name Janeway. B'Elanna would also fit that description. (They are both Star Trek Voyager characters, incase you didn't know.) They are both pretty names; and if you are a Trekky like me, you might consider for the new girls name. :)
I've got something for you to try - go to your closet and grab a yarn that is about double the weight of your tabby yarn. Try that for the pattern instead of doubling up the tabby yarn. The reason this might work better, is your threads are linear, and will lie next to each other in your woven piece. Does that even make sense lol....I'm at a loss of proper words today. In other words one round fat yarn will take up less linear weaving that two thinner yarns (even if those two thinner yarns twisted together appear to be the same weight as the fatter yarn. To make this make more sense...wrap your tabby yarn around a pencil to get accurate wpi. You are looking for a yarn that is fat enough to wrap and get approximately half the wpi. Give that a try for a few inches and see if you are closer to the measurements you are aiming for. Loveya.
That totally makes sense, because sometimes people ask me why I double the warp yarn for dishtowels on my RHL instead of just buying something twice as thick. I want the diameters next to each other. This is kind of the opposite of that, so it makes perfect sense to me. Thanks!
Hi Tricia, You might like a Book by Myra Wood about Crazy Shot. I think it is mainly for the rigid heddle but she has great information in there. Congratulations on your floor loom. Also to keep your place in a pattern there are magnetic boards available which I used to use for my cross stitch.
Hello, thank you so much for your videos! I would love to know your thoughts on what you like better about a floor loom in comparison to a rigid heddle loom. I have only woven on a rigid heddle, but I got a used floor loom for Christmas. I have not started a project on my floor loom as of yet. Thank you so much! : )
I like the floor loom because I have the ability to beat tighter, and I have more options for patterning that don't require manual manipulation. You can weave a lot of the same things on a RHL, but it takes manual manipulation to get the patterns, and I don't have the patience.
Congratulations on taking this huge step to a floor loom. I can honestly say that is definitely NOT in my future! LOL! Nice work on your overshot towels. If you haven't named her yet, she kind of looks like an Emily to me!
I’ve always been intrigued by weaving, watching people weave on floor looms, but with all the putting the warp and weft on (and, 😂, I’m not sure which is what) makes it to me it’s a “spectator sport”looks way too complicated ;). The colors and pattern is very pretty, look forward to seeing your progress and the finished dish clothes. As for naming your loom, maybe one of your grandmothers or great grandmothers had a name you loved, I’m sure they were hardworking, the older generations tended to be, and they also may have had “different” names. My great grandmother had a very different middle name, “Key Belle”. I never found that name in my genealogy searchings as I wondered where it came from.
I know nothing about looms but new babies are always exciting! Yay!

Everything you said was alien to me. 🤣🤦♀️, I still watched to the end. I so want to learn to weave, it fascinates me
It used to be alien to me too, not even that long ago!

Call her Rosie! Like Rosie the riveter! Hardworking and temperamental sounds precisely like what Rosie would be like.
I love the bloopers at the front. Love your floor loom! Thanks for your all your videos!!
Glad you like them!
I'm not a weaver, however, I'm completely fascinated by watching others work on their looms. Such beautiful colors and patterns. 🌷
Some day! Some day I want a floor loom. It looks so hard but so fun and I’m itching to try

Love the new girl & the weaving 😍😍 I just purchased a second hand Leclerc Fanny last night and can’t wait to start weaving. ♥️
Those towels will be gorgeous
I love that you did overshot on a 4 harness! To see the process is very helpful. I am still trying to wrap my brain around reading the drafts.

Weaving is not my thing but I love watching you.
I have a few art/craft channels that I love to watch even though I've never even tried the art form. It's like magic to watch people make things.
Glad I finally got to meet your new loom! I vote yoy name her Maude
Wow nice loom. Congratulations. Beautiful pattern and colors
Great job! Looks so complicated. I cant tell you how many times Ive told myself “maybe weaving just isnt for me”.
vand yet, here we are 😂😂

Think we should call her Harriet 😁 I say 'we' cos there's no way I could fit a floor loom in my house so I'm now living vicariously through you 🤣
Love seeing you enjoy your new work mate! Lol I wish you many years with your new floor loom. Hope you stay well, safe, and happy! Can't wait for your next video. Have A Blessed Day!
Thanks, you too!
Congratulations on your new loom....what a deal you found! Beautiful pattern.

I bet for people with more experience it would be no big deal, but it was only my third time on this loom. 😂
Eveliina sounds good. A node to your Finnish heritage
Beautiful! Excited for your new floor loom! 22” seems like such a comfortable size too. Love it.
Thank you so much! I don't feel like I have room for anything much bigger, but I'll probably make room someday 😂
Your new loom looks amazing! I can't wait to see all your wonderful creations!
Thank you so much!
Wow! What a beautiful weave.
A friend of mine offered to give me her floor loom, but I just don't have the space for it. Weaving vicariously through you Trish!
I understand. I don't really feel like I have space for this one, but here we are!
Those are going to be pretty.
Looking forward to your ideas on improving the warping process. Right now the only way it gets done on my 36" floor loom is if my husband helps me (and does like 90% of the work).
I have a feeling it will take us a while. I'm definitely struggling with it right now.
John is the MVP 🏆
I love watching you weave! Ready to get to work but also maybe stress you out a little 😂
Hoping you have a wonderful week ahead Trish!
Love the pattern and colors! Going to stick with my rigid heddle, my brain would fry trying to warp that! LOL
I believe when the time is right, it will come to you in a way you can afford.
I've only woven one overshot piece but I found the key to getting the pattern to come out the right size is a really tight beat. I also use a program called iweaveit on my ipad to track both treadeling and threading. I hope this helps.
Thanks for the suggestions. I have downloaded iweaveit. Looks very helpful!
Love the new loom, I hope someday to have a floor loom.
@@FiberLoveDiary I meant to say I used single tread. 🤪😳🥰
What a great find! Hubby is a definite keeper! Your towels are already so beautiful, I wouldn’t want to use them 😀 So looking forward to seeing them completed...lol no pressure 😘😘
I think they're going in a guest bath instead of the kitchen, so they won't get used that much 😂😂
I think it looks great with the doubled thread. You should wait until wet finish. I think overshot is usually done with a wool, that is double the thickness of the warp. Wool would not work for towels! Love the new loom. Name her after your favorite actress/singer of the past...Doris!
This is seriously amazing Trish! Waaaay beyond my skill set atm, but definitely not out of the realm of things id attempt as well. Great job!
Love love the towels!!! You are inspiring me to make All the things 😁. As my Mom always said, keep the fighting Irish spirit up ... it comes in handy. How about Dame Dure (tough lady in French) LOL
Great price for a really good look. Best of luck with it.
Yay she's a beauty 😍. I purchased iWeaveIt from playstore for Android, they also have an apple or pc version. The add on (also purchased) has a threading and treadle tracker, which is super helpful. Not too expensive and easy to chart the patterns.
Thanks for the info!
It's a gorgeous piece! The colors are lovely. What about Catarina for the loom?
I am mesmorized. I can't wait to see the finished object(s). Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the tip! I did get iweaveit, so fingers crossed!
Nice work! I have been playing withcthe idea of getting a 4 or 8 shaft table loom instead of just a rigid heddle loom like i had in the states.i am crazzy i know but i like the idea of all the oportunities and choices.
Is loom envy a thing? And your husband deserves new towels - camo colored. Naming pieces of equipment is tricky I can't wait to hear what you decide.
He gets any knitted or woven thing he asks for, I promise!
How can you turn down such a great deal on a floor loom! Looking forward to seeing your completed projects. 👍👍👍
Congratulations 👏
Someone from my local weavers/spinners guild offered to sell me their floor loom, but I’m not too keen to try to lug it up to my 3rd floor apartment. I think I’ll stick with my rigid heddle for now 😆
I really think that's one of the pluses for rigid heddle. They are so easy to move and store! Plus, if you really felt pulled to a floor loom, you would probably not mind lugging it up, so that feeling tells you it's not time to have one in your life!
@@FiberLoveDiary oh definitely! I’ve gone full tilt into rigid heddle, then spinning soon after. I think I’m booked!
Lovely! I just got a louet Erica so I will be posting “How to warp a shaft loom” soon!.
Oh good. Maybe I can learn to do it better from your video!
The weaving is beautiful!!!!
Looks awesome! No idea how it all works, but I’m intrigued!
Wow, that's beautiful! If this is you learning, what will you do as an expert?!?
I will be learning forever, so who knows?? 😂😂
Good tips, thank you!
Oh, have you tried using your rigid heddle loom with the warping pegs as a warping board? I recently used my 16" RHL upside down to direct warp my 32" RHL. Also keep in mind I have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to floor looms or winding a warp for them!
No, but I'm open to almost anything that helps. I am putting longer warps on this loom, so I haven't been direct warping.
I'm sure it becomes muscle memory, but that looks so impossible...haha I mean impressive :) Love the colors.
It felt so impossible at first, but it is starting to get better. It all takes time and work - When will I just be a prodigy already?
The pattern is cool.
The first name that came to be was Carmen. Weaving makes me think of gypsies and you can’t deny that she was hard working and temperamental!
All as I can say is beautiful!
Thank you! 😊
Thanks!
wah! this video was posted on my bday! i'm going to modify my RHL. i shall build a castle with 4 reeds... or buy an old floor loom on ebay...
Esmeralda, it is a old and odd name, might be good for a temperamental loom.
Love the new giri!! She's orecious...
She's a bit difficult to manage 😂
Congratulations on taking this huge step to a floor loom. I can honestly say that is definitely NOT in my future! LOL! Nice work on your overshot towels. If you haven't named her yet, she kind of looks like an Emily to me!
Lovely project. Good color choices. Is your puppy able to sit with you while you weave?
Thank you! I just switched chairs so he could sit next to me. He was sleeping behind me, but he doesn't like it as much 😂
That’s really cool weaving. ❤️
I thought the same thing about weaving, but I have learned now! Thanks for the suggestions. Key Belle is pretty!
