  • Sachets are small pouches filled with lots of fragrance. Put them in small spaces like your car or drawers. I'm going to give you the best sachet recipe that I've found yet & show you how to make gorgeous sachet envelopes.
RECIPE: You'll need a jar with a tight lid. Add 1/2 cup Vermiculite, 1 tablespoon orris root powder, 35 milliliters fragrance oil (this is the MOST fragrance you can add). NOTE*: The vermiculite comes in a bit bigger grain. Use it as it is, or grind it [with blender] into smaller particles (this is what I did). I'm pretty sure it absorbs more fragrance oil like this. Orris root powder is optional, but it is recommended because it locks in fragrance & makes it last longer (this is why it's in so many potpourri recipes). And [in my experiments] it also makes the fragrance stronger & better somehow. It's fine if you don’t have it; the sachets will still be awesome. But I don't know of a substitution. Do NOT use natrasorb; it locks in fragrance oil (what it's made to do) & hinders scent throw. It's the worst ingredient to use for this project.
DIRECTIONS: Stir the mix & shake it well. Cure 24 hours, then mix everything together & get rid of clumps. Now cure 1 week. After it's cured it should be dry. *If it's not dry, add more vermiculite to soak up fragrance oil.
POUCH: Cut the tea bag to fit the envelope. Cut 2 small slits at the top as close to the seams as possible to make a flap. Apply glue to the flap. Fill the pouch & secure the flap. You can use it just like this if you wanted to!
ENVELOPES: Use thin paper (almost as thin as regular paper). Cardstock is too thick. Cut envelopes to measure 10 inches across & 6 inches wide. Score the paper at 4.5", & 9", & a 1/2" border on the bottom. Cut the sides off the bottom border, leaving just the center flap. Glue the 2 sides together. Indent the top sides to shape it like a tea bag. Use a grommet tool for the top center hole. Now insert the pouch & glue the bottom flap. Add ribbon for decoration & to hang the sachets.
PRESERVING FRAGRANCE: Leave the scented base in the jar until you're ready to assemble the sachets & use them immediately after. You need to preserve the fragrance if you assemble them beforehand. Wrap or air vacuum the sachet pouch or the entire sachet.
USES: The sachet work best in small, enclosed spaces. It fills the area with scent & it makes the items in that area smell amazing. My garments were scented after just 1 day. The sachets loses scent potency over time but it also seems like they last forever. I have some from 2 years ago that still have scent!

Happy holidays! They do make great gifts! I gave some to my fiancé's mom (in a big basket that I made her). NOTE: If you do this you can NOT put chocolates or cookies in, too. The food absorbs the scent & will taste like it after just a few days! I did this with her basket; I put expensive Godiva chocolate & cookies & they were ruined, esp. the chocolates!

Thanks for the recipe/tutorial. I’m going to try this for the place I work at because they have mice. I will use peppermint oil instead. I notice you edited out adding the oil. Dumb question but what did you use to measure 35 milliliters of oil? TIA.

Dora, love this! Is the recipe for one sachet? Roughly 5 oz or would you package them at 1 oz to 1.5 oz each (cost is roughly .75 per oz for materials)
