Haven´t watched all those movies, but my personal no. 1 is Tilda Swinton´s Gabriel from "Constantine", she´s like a strange creature you don´t really know how to deal with, she´s scary, fascinating & beautiful at the same time.

I agree. She made the best angel , just for the whole fact that angels are genderless (although this can be disputed because of Arch angels being refer as male), and she portrayed that so well. I do wish they gave her more roles.

Gabriel in Constantine was a masterpiece of personage thanks to Tilda Swinton; Peter Stormare as Devil was just amazing.

Is everyone forgetting that Lucifer may be the devil but he is also an angel.
He is in the film for 60 seconds but steals the entire show by being so good at being bad.

City of Angels starring Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan is really quiet, poignant and beautiful ..
But Wings of Desire is better.
I'm not sure which "angel" movie I saw first, but the one that first came to mind was "Date With An Angel" with Emmanuelle Beart. Though obviously not a militant and powerful archangel like so many on this list, she nailed the otherworldly beauty... among other things. Def deserved a spot.
There's only one angel that I can love dearly and that's Castiel from Supernatural.

@@angiex_x I ould put City of Angels as number one personally, most people hate it because it's considered a chick flick but without spoilers for those that haven't seen the ending and use this list WATCH that movie it is awsome. The ending is definitely a tearjerker that make even men cry.

City of Angels was a subpar remake of Wings of Desire. Watch the original for a great movie.

Why do movies always make Gabriel the warrior angel? He's supposed to be the _messenger_ of God! If anything, the archangel Michael, the general of the armies of Heaven, would better fit the role of warrior. C'mon, Hollywood, get your angels straightened out!

I know, right? Come on, people! Gabriel is supposed to be a gentle messenger, not a badbutt warrior. Especially since Gabriel was the one who told Mary she was pregnant with Jesus. So, I'd always pictured him as being a sweetheart.

I respect your opinion, but my favourite Gabriel would always be Richard Speigh Jr, although the talented actor can play Loki equally well too. Mark Pellegrino the best Lucifer for me.

I didnt like the Constantine movie that much but the Gabriel in that movie is my favorite representation of an angel in any movie or TV show ( second being castiel ) just because is exactly how I imagined angels the first time I read about them , genderless and out-of-this-world looking

Interestingly in the original Hellblazer comic Gabriel is a 100% male,
Which Garth Ennis used to explain the virgin birth.
And Gabriel gets treated pretty brutally in Hellblazer especially when he gets on Constantine's bad side,
and John decides to get a bit of personal revenge on him with a chainsaw.

Yep, I feel the same way. I didn't really like his character in the movie, but that Gabriel is kind of how I'd seen angels.
Legion is in my top 10 films of all time brilliant.

Alan Rickman's Metatron is certainly missing as spotted already by others. But also missing is Angela from the French film "Angel-A" from 2005, played by Rie Rasmussen opposite Jamel Debbouze. One of the best angel films I've ever seen. And one of the most beautifully filmed ones. Well, Luc Besson, what else can you expect.
Couldn’t agree more and it’s timeless! I have seen it thousands of times🌟 (definitely the most accurate depiction of an angel (I have had a NDE so powerful it got me of drugs and hell is not real bc we learn from our mistakes and there’s no judgment from the unconditional loving non-physical vantage point!) and it makes Paris so beautiful it’s almost as beautiful as London! Not sure where you get the info from, but it says otherwise in some holy documents.

Nick Cage’s Seth, in “City of Angels,” was sublime. Only time I’ve actually like NC in a film.
James Mason & Buck Henry were fantastic. I love both versions of Heaven Can Wait and Body & Soul! Constantine and Prophecy have finally found their following. A lot of people panned both initially, but I LOVE both and am thrilled they are starting to be appreciated! Who doesn't love It's a Wonderful Life! Michael is one of my faves. Travolta hit gold in Michael and Phenomenon at that time...I was secretly hoping you'd include honorable mention of Beatrice Strait, Charles Durning, Scatman Crothers, etc. in Two of a Kind. heheheh

Emmanuelle Beart was the most beautiful angel in the movie Date with an Angel. One of my favorite movies of the 80's.

I remember Angels in the Outfield a long time ago, it's been forever since I watched it. This list is impressive, and it's surprisingly on Christmas Day.
The Prophecy's one of my favourite Walken performances. Angel-A from Luc Besson's a great angel film too.

I'm a little surprised the Angel Louis from Jacob's Ladder isn't on this list. Having a guardian angel lead you through Hell to find peace in death was very touching. He also in my opinion had the best line in the film, " Eckhart saw Hell too. He said: The only thing that burns in Hell is the part of you that won't let go of life, your memories, your attachments. They burn them all away. But they're not punishing you, he said. They're freeing your soul. So, if you're frightened of dying and... and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth."

I adore that movie, but I don't think Louis belongs on the list. He's definitely portrayed in a very angelic light ("like an overgrown cherub"), and the analogy for him rescuing Jacob from hell is there. But I would disagree with him being a literal angel.
