As an almost 70 years old playing of single digits golfer i replaced my 2- 3-4-5-6-7 irons with hybrids and woods, beginning of spring, best decision i made. Oh, Freddy swing is so beautiful, pure, fantastic tempo.
Absolutely, I'm 65 and it's a Driver, 4 Wood, 7 Wood, 3, 4 & 5 Hybrid in my bag and sometimes, depending on the course I substitute my 6 iron with a 6 hybrid. Huge game improvement all the way around.
I’m carrying Driver, 3Hybrid,5wood 4-pw plus wedges. I love hitting irons but doing what you did is probably the right call. This is awesome watching Fred and Caddy ⛳️
I'm 70, and I've gone to a set of hybrids myself. Driver, 5-wood, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 hybrids, 8 and 9 irons, PW, SW, and chipper. Best thing I ever did as far as golf is concerned.
I understand the liking for hybrids but they just dont produce any feel for me like the longer irons do. Last week I replaced my Srixon U85 driving iron with the Wilson 3-iron.
its a joy to listen to Freddie....how with 65 he meticulously breaks everything down to feel/looks ect is amazing! Love how he also works with the Fitter to get what he wants 🤣👍
Fantastic video! We have to stop copying what the PGA tour pros have in their bags and learn from what Freddie is doing. I love it. I am 66 years old using the following clubs. 11.5 driver, 4 wood, 3 hybrid and 4 hybrid. Freddie has me thinking about a 5 or 6 hybrid. Great stuff. It’s time to drop this maucho what’s in the bag and make this game a bit easier for most of us.
I’m 36 years old and I’m about to do exactly what Fred is doing. I’m tired of making the game hard for myself. Rescue clubs are 100x easier to hit. Having irons 7 iron and down is a smart move.
Also 36 and I just got a 9 wood to replace my 5 iron, to go with my 5 and 7 woods. I’m thrilled. Descent angle of my 5 iron is 30° if I catch it perfect. Descent angle of the 9 wood is 45° so it stops when it lands. The weird macho stigma against these clubs is so dumb.
I was lucky to watch Fred on the range at Dubai Desert Classic some years ago. That swing hasn’t varied much, a little intensity maybe but he always had effortless power. An effortless natural style greatly admired around the world.
I've been playing 2 thru 7 hybrids for about 5 years. When I first started playing them it didn't take long for my scores to go from the the mid 80's to the mid 70's. I'll never go back to irons.
These clubs are making golf easier. That is why. I play a 5hybrid. I throw the 5i back in on windier days cause I find it hard to hit low. And, sometimes I replace my 5W with the 3hybrid but my 5W goes higher. All my shafts are Ventus Blue. 4 hybrid is always in the bag.
Are these issues happening if these bags are used daily? I just got the pochette metis in monogram canvas from the Kusama collection. I love the multicolored polka dots and hope they donât melt on me, lol. But I donât think itâll be in my regular rotation. I also have a NoeNoe in DA but only use that a few times a year in the spring and summer so I havenât put that much wear and tear into it. I hope I donât see the fraying for a while. Also, Iâm saving up for a kislux . Has your colleague seen the same issues with that size? I donât mind some relaxation in shape but I donât want it to be a puddle either. Thanks for the video!
I could watch that swing all day long. I still remember the first ball I ever saw him hit in person at Colonial in Memphis, where the St Jude Classic('FedEx') used to be played. Slight dog leg right par 5. Pured down the middle with a slight fade. You notice he's watching the ball fight and distance without electronic garbage to cloud the mind.
What I dig about Couples is with all the tech out there (track man, etc) he still is old school! What he sees & what he feels. Been fortunate enough to see him on the range..creative machine.
Freddie still has the silky smooth effortless swing despite probably 30+ years with back issues. I love my 4h lofted at 23 degrees, sadly I can only hit it with a 185-190 yard carry despite being 5 years younger than Fred and no back issues. I have tried a 26h/5h and it just launches so high, way higher than I am comfortable with, but that is probably my technique
Just did the same. I can hit my long irons but getting older losing speed added 7w a 26 degree hybrid and 7 iron down with driver and mini driver as 3w/fairway finder. That 26 degree hybrid is a gamw changer. Golf is hard why make it harder oh ya ego lol
I'm with Freddie and the bag today includes the hybrids to replace the irons that I cant bring into the green high, all money clubs and much easier to hit while the swing speed isnt there anymore, keeping golf fun and remaining competitive

I just bought the Eleven brand hybrid irons… total game changer and feels like I’m cheating. Have the 5-pw plus Cleveland 48-52-60 wedges. Just shot back to back 82’s which ties my best score ever. The clubs simply go straight every time….

I hear you. I’m hitting the ball a ton still. On average par 4’s I’m hitting driver, GW/54* about 90% of the time. The municipal I play don’t have a par 3 over 175 so I play my 6h. On par 5’s I’m either driver, 5w/5h or 5h,5h,wedge. I just don’t play mid or long iron shots almost all. I want to start traveling for golf and playing longer courses. I think that would expose to more variation in yardage. I’ve started playing blues a lot more too, but that takes me Right to my hybrid distances again. I love the height from a hybrid…long shot with a quick stop.
I'm 2 yrs older than Fred, but after a car wreck I switched to high lofted woods 11, 9, 7, 5. The hybrids just don't feel as good to me. Before you laugh about an 11 wood....try one. I give it to my scratch buddies without telling them what it is and they can't believe the distance and height. When you consider DJ , VJ and others are hitting 9 woods....the 11 wood makes sense for a 9hdcp at 67yrs.

Some folks hit hybrids better, others are woods users. Find what works for you. Me? Woods work fine. My results outshine the hybrids. But that is me. Everyone is different.
it also depends on your irons lofts. I have a strong lofted 7 iron at 27.5 in my old irons and in my new irons my 6 is now the 27deg club. you ned to first look at down the lofts fall and then have a launch monitor session to look at ball trajectories and carry. if you also just by 4/5 hybrid off the shelf without fitting and they don't work don't blame the clubs.
