So let me get this straight. She refuses a job multiple times, some random dude attacks her, she defends herself and she gets sent to jail? How does that make sense?
This wss a different time in society. Alice walker wrote about how some women were actually treated during this era and Oprah said she had bad experiences. Lot of women were maids then and had to do whatever they were told. People did not have a !it of career choices then. Stephen Spielberg was told that this was a story that needed to be told. The original movie was protested then because of some of the negative characters in movie like mister. I think reason movie did not win an Academy awards. Years later the co!or purple is considered one of the most watched and memorized movie in history.
I like how they made the Mayor's wife more obviously unpleasant and nasty. The original she just seemed clueless and not fully aware of just how racist she and her husband were.
While oprah saying "GET ME CHILDREN OUT OF HERE!!" cant be beat(though Danielle did great nonetheless), I like how this version of the scene is timed, especially with it cutting to black at the pistol whip.
This scene almost took me to tears…i see so much of my baby girl in Sophia and it sickens me to think that back in my time this is the kind of treatment she would’ve received if not worse.
She shouldn’t be force to work for some old ugly white woman no means no. You wouldn’t like it if someone try to force you to work for them. Would you?
This might sound cowardly, and I know she's a "strong woman", but I think real strength is being able to swallow and walk away for your kids. Its horrid what they did, but she knows the environment she stays in from the Hell Naw to the punch, she didnt gain anything and her children missed out too. The system during that time was against her. Had she been by herself, she should fight or fight with her man. But being in that situation, where the children would witness that abuse and lose their mother, that would break them.
@@joewhitehead3yeah think of it as a Mean Girls from this year, which is also the Adaptation of the musical. Except the Mean Girls one is horrible. This one was so much better
@@joewhitehead3 I think the acting was just same quality as the musical. Certainly the music part was amazing and improved so much. But for actual acting portions they could’ve improved so much as they actually get retakes. It didn’t portray the emotions and feeling towards a character/s. It’s sad I have to say this but the movie felt more like a fever dream at most moments.
I cried so hard during that scene…Danielle did such an amazing job. 😢
omg sameee , and that jail scene.
Yesss the tears just fall my god it’s so chilling I’m thankful that I ain’t never have to live through it😮💨😢
This movie is ridiculous.

That's just it, it doesn't.
Because shes black. Crazy right
It's the USA, none of it has ever really made sense.
Because racism... DUH

This remake did the original justice

@@jamesa.romano8500 omg , I thought I was the only one who thought that.
I agree, this scene really brings homes the true horror of what happened to Sophia..the helplessness of it all...more powerful than the original.

I'm playing you Danielle as Sofia you are my favorite actress and singer you did a great job playing as Sofia

I love Sofia, what grit. The Patron Saint of the oppressed. Why can't we respect and love each other as children of God?
The white woman is really creepy in this version. Poor Sofia. :(

The remake no one asked for.
It’s more of an adaptation of the musical
