...and, I should have said, this is the most useful video for installing Vidga ceiling track I've found! thank you
Thank you so much Connie! I'm glad to hear that as I almost didn't post it because the quality is kinda bad. the room is a little dark.
I totally agree. I feel like I can do it alone
The ripplefold trick using two hooks on one carrier is so genius thank you
you're welcome. It works really great!
Thank you ! Two hooks on one carrier to keep pleats was just what I was looking for ! New sub! Thanks!👍👍👍👍👍
Yw. I love this trick.
This video wa so informative! I got wall brackets thinking I didn't want to tackle the ceiling, but now am going to get the ceiling mounts because you proved how easy it is. Thank you so much. Great content! 😊
Thanks Shannon! It’s so easy
How many of the tracks did you use for your space? I know they come in 55" lengths and I need 130" total. I'm wondering how the cutting process is.
I used 2 tracks. I haven’t cut them yet but I imagine it’s not difficult with a fairly new hack saw. Jack saws are cheap.
Thank you!!!!! SOOOOO MUCH. Your literally the only person that really showed how to do it and so detailed! Thank u again!
Oh that’s great!!!! Thanks for telling me.
thank you for showing the 'buckrum'. I call that an eye hook, so it was nice to be able to see what you were talking about, as far as where you were hooking the return. EXCELLENT way to solve the creeping light issue when you are installing blackout curtains.
yes! excellent way to keep the light from creeping in.
nobody have ever shown videos like this love the simplicity and detail description. thank you for sharing ❤❤❤❤
Excellent! Thanks for telling me!
Thank you for a great tutorial! So nice to see it done and explained in words instead of pictures. 😂
You’re welcome!
I must say, this is the best howto video on #vidga
Wow. Thank you!
SUCH a great tutorial. I wasn't sure if I'd need a second pair of hands installing this. Now I know I can do it all on my own!
Totally doable alone!!! Thank you for commenting!
This is the video I've been searching for. Massive thanks! Just one question, the two hooks thing, is that two hooks coming from the same little pocket on the heading tape going into the carrier, or two hooks from two different pockets going into the same carrier?
Two hooks from two different pockets going into one carrier. That way the pleats stay pleated. 😊
Thanks so much Mimzy. I’m working my way through all your videos. Brilliant content! ❤
@@asianfusionpetstylingbypam1523 awe! Thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing, Ikea should pay you a commission for helping their clients! your video is way more informative than ikea videos or any other video I found for Vidga ceiling track installations. Thank you!
Thank you so much. I agree!
How far away from the wall did you install the back edge of the track? Thank for the help!
I installed it about 2” from the wall.
What is that connector called? I can't find it in Ikea.
The connectors come with the track.
Does the joiner come with the track or is that a seperate piece, thank you for your video! I will be buying this for my new home! 😇🙏🏻
Separate.
@@MimzyandCompany If it's the piece you show at 4:22, mine came with the track (U.S.). If it's not that piece, can you provide a link pleeease? I'm finding that my ceilings are so unleveled that even with that piece, they aren't perfectly aligned. Crossing my fingers you've found something I cannot on their website!!
I have never, and I mean NEVER, been able to utilize those plastic anchors. They ALWAYS pull out.
I may be trying to hang thungs that are too heavy for that, but? Help?
Oh! Could it be that I AM screwing the screw in too tightly and, what, stripping the hold of the plastic anchor??
Can I use this rod system to hang art works on steel wire? An Aussie viewer.
This was super helpful. Just finished hanging my curtains!
yay! so glad this helped.
Hi what is the joiner called please i cant find it on ikea thankyou
Awesome video- well done - thank you! 🎉
Wow, thanks for discovering this neat curtain track from IKEA. Very practical video. Thanks, Mimzy!
Thanks Ann. I plan to use them in more rooms in my house.
Best value for money. Simple, elegant and affordable.
Agree!
Just curious. You had so much fabric in the width of the drapes, why didn't you install the track from wall to wall? It would have covered the black box that was installed when you weren't home😄and added a little drama!
well i considered it, two reasons...I only bought two tracks and used the full length of both tracks. And mostly 2...I don't really like the look of the curtains going wall to wall. It looks like a cheap motel to me. I realize that five star hotels often have wall to wall drapery, but I just don't love it. It's just my personal feeling/preference on the look.
You honestly have the best content!
I hope you’ll consider a video to just explain your philosophy, which seems to be that some vigilance and a little DIY can provide the house of your dreams. Like the Hemnes bed, for example. Looks AMAZING and you used stuff you had, plus very little investment. I adore your home, it’s beautiful.
you're so kind! I'm about to start uploading more consistently. Today I finally broke down and bought a new computer. I finally resigned to the fact that mine was no longer viable for video content. So stay tuned. Thank you for words of encouragement. It means a lot.
Thank you!!! I’m going to put mine up today. I was lost with the ikea instructions lol
So glad this helped!
Where can I get those curtains with hooks ? I want to do same. The links took me to the fabric
Can you list in the description the type of carriers you purchased? :)
What amazing ideas you came up with! The 2nd hook and wrap around the track and also the putting two hooks into the eyelet to maintain the pleated look..genius!!
Thanks Amy! Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Where can I find the link to purchase the vidga ceiling track?
@@tawren79 I think you can only get Vidga at the store. I do have a link in the description for something very similar on Amazon.
How far off the wall did you measure & mount for curtain clearance?
Only about 2 inches from the wall .
How many inches from the wall did you install the tracks? Thanks
I installed it about 2” from the wall.
You’re a genius AND they look *so* much better
Thanks dear !
I have a question maybe will sounds stupid , so my apt have already the ceiling tracks. My question 🙋♀️ How I buy the curtains , they come already with the little things too hang ? My apt have to one for the transparent curtains and on there for the other .
I am very confused.
Thanks for your advice.
The curtains don't come with the things for hanging. You can buy drapery hooks on amazon. Hopefully your track still has the carriers though.
How can you be sure youre not gonna drill into pipes or electrical wire?
Hi! This is so helpful. Quick question - did you use the carriers that came with the Vidga curtain or are they linked in your bio? I just want to make sure I follow these instructions exactly. Thanks!
I used the carriers that came with the track!
Thank you! Your video helped a lot for the installation today!❤
so glad. thanks for commenting.
I found it noisy, how do you find the noise when opening or closing the curtains?
it makes noise for sure...but what kind of situation doesn't? and it's only for seconds
I should add this is a very helpful video. I love IKEAS engineering, but there cartoon instructions not so much. I appreciated the hints about how to wrap the corners at the end. And more. However I couldn.t finish the job, when I realized the curtains were not as wide as I thought and those 2 inches per panel made a big difference. Did I mention I used to teach math? haha. So I ordered another set and paid shipping since it takes about 90 minutes to get to any of the three IKEAs that are closest. I was promised next day delivery, which was surprising since the next day was Sunday AND memorial day week end. Now (Tuesday) IKEA wants me to rate my purchase, which I still do not have. LOL But I WILL hem them all, I hope. Another point is that I hung two sets in the living room and two sets (when I get the second pair) in the dining room which means 4 sets to sew. Ugh
Does anyone have experience drilling into the ceiling of an old art deco building for these?
I got some heavy duty anchors because I’m quite confident it’s plaster/concrete.
Has anyone had experience with installing these are those materials?
hmmm...not sure what an old art deco building would have in the ceiling. The walls are probably plaster and lathe, not sure about ceiling. BUT I did just install these into a concrete block wall a couple weeks ago. The only way into concrete, particularly if it's solid concrete, is to use a hammer drill and use Tapcon masonry screws. This is the only type screw that will grip into concrete and be secure.
Hi, do you think this track could be bent to accommodate a 2/3 bay window? Thanks and thanks for the great tips in this video :-)
Hmmm. I don’t think so, I feel like it would cave in on the bend and the carriers would not longer slide through. But it could worth a try.
Do the joiner things come with the tracks or are those purchases separate?
They come with the track .
Thank you so much for this video.
Do you think these rails could hold heavier drapes/curtains?
I have velvet curtains from Amazon that I’m thinking about installing this way.
Yes. It can hold heavy velvet drapes. I have velvet in my bedroom and I have four drapery panels on one track and it works like a charm.
How far from the wall did you install the tracks? Also the return to the wall with the eye hook...genius!!!😮
I installed the track only about 2” from the wall. I have a tiny crown moulding against the wall so I stalled the track about 1/2” away from the crown.
Can you please tell me what style of curtain your using
I made these curtains myself. The header style is called ripple fold.
Came across your video as struggling with the ikea instructions, thankyou so much for providing such clear instructions!
you're so welcome!
Great video, so clear and well explained! It would look higher end if you put the ceiling track from one end of the wall to the other instead of stopping it around the patio doors. And add more curtains to fill the gap on the walls. Just a suggestion😀
Yes. It would look like a hotel. Thank you
Glad to find this video, but I am still worried that if I can just drill anywhere in the ceiling without knowing where the backing is
yes, I understand. What are you worried about though? Not finding a stud?
Great video! Thank you. Did the connector piece come with your rails? Or did you purchase separately?
pretty sure it did.🤔
Very smart woman
I didn't hear you mention anything about trying to find studs to screw into for the track screws. Is that not mentioned in the directions?
I was only able to hit a stud in one side of my track. The other I used anchors. So far so good.
Yep, doing this sometime this week. Such a clear demonstration with a lot of great tips. I've been putting this off for years and even considered having it done professionally, but feel totally confident now. Thank you!! 👏🏿👏🏿
Oh good! You can do it!
Do the carriers have wheels, or only gliders? Seems that newer vidga carriers don't have wheels anymore.
No, no wheels anymore. It’s just plastic.
This is great! Does the connector come with the rail? I am located in Toronto and could not find this online. Thanks!
i believe it does. how quickly i forget!!! i've even installed another track since this video. ugh.
I have to laugh. I hung some IKEA curtains maybe 15 years ago over a 12 ft window. I loved them even though they drug on the floor (not a design decision) and were four panels. They were in a very sunny window and faded before I sewed them together. So I replaced them with a new set of 4 panels. Let's see if I get around to hemming and sewing them together.!
That is the way it goes. Pretty sad considering this is what I do day in and day out. Oh well.
Hey , can someone tell me if the joiner comes in the set or have to order this separately ? Thank you
Comes with it
Do the screws have to be attached to ceiling joists? Or just the drywall?
I only hit one stud, and used drywall anchors for the rest.
How far apart from the wall is the track?
It’s about 1.5 inches.
Does IKEA have the drapes that accompany the ceiling mounted track? I'd like to be able to buy and install both together. Thank you!
Yes! They have a large selection.
@@MimzyandCompany Thank you!
I just installed my vidga triple rack and I am so glad I am watching your vid now. I was trying to find a way to keep the pleats and wrap around each ends. Thanks 😊
Excellent! So glad this helped.
Hi, great video, where did you get the piece to connect the two tracks? Or what are they called? I can’t seem to find it.
It’s included with each track.
Wow what an informative video!! You are amazing!! Thank you!
Thank you so much!
LOVE THIS! It appears the VIDGA double track set is only wall mounted. Do you know if if the bracket for the double can be affixed to the ceiling? Or just follow your video x 2? Not doing sheers right away, but likely will add.
I don't know for sure how the double track works, but I think you could easily install two single tracks parallel to each other with out any trouble.
Thank you for posting this! Did the return to the wall hooks that make the curtains stay put when opening/closing come with the glider? If not, can you provide a link to where you got yours?
No I bought the hooks separate on Amazon. I think there’s a link in the description below the video.
so your going in to the Blaster board ? how about the weight on the Board its self ?
good question. I guess I'll find out. If i have any issues I'll put the screws into the studs. But so far so good with the anchors
Great video! Can you cut the tracks so they’re smaller?
Yes! Absolutely. I’ve cut one with a dollar tree hack saw.
Thank you for this very thorough installation video! How much weight will the IKEA Vidga single track hold? I have blackout curtains and would hate for the rack to fall out my ceiling. Thanks!
if you're able to screw your track into a stud, then it would be unlimited weight, not unlimited, but a LOT. if you use really good anchors (molly style anchors), you could still hold a lot. a molly anchor opens behind the drywall kinda like butterfly wings. a hardware store employee should know what a molly is...hopefully.
@@MimzyandCompany Thank you!
Hi Whats the recommended type of screw and its size?
good question...I'm not completely sure but it looks like a #6 size and about 1.5-2" long.
@@MimzyandCompany Do these need to go into a beam, or we can put anywhere in the ceiling
@@kamalbhardwaj13 either one. if you put it into drywall only then you need to use a good anchor, like a Molly or something that has wings. not sure that will help.
Hi , just wanted to ask what screw size did you use?
Very good question. Looking back at the vid. I think it’s probably a #8 maybe #6 … probably 1 3/4 inches long. I’m guessing because I used what I had.
Great video. Thank you
Can you add the wands on each side so you don’t have to open them with your hands but the wands instead? How /where do you attach them ? Thanks !
Yes!!! Absolutely! I need to some ! Thanks for the reminder!
Excellent video. Thank you so much!
yw. thank you for commenting !
Is there a way to hang regular store bought panels or do you need to add something special to the back/buy a certain kind?
You can definitely use store bought curtains. If it doesn’t have any buckram/drapery header to make the tops more stiff just use more drapery pins do the top of your curtains don’t droop. I have a video about it . ruclips.net/video/v-MS70KPZDc/видео.html
@@MimzyandCompany thanks so much! When I figured out I will need ten to cover the wall area I want to do, making my own is starting to sound better every minute. Thanks for your videos! I’m glad I found you!
Question. When I use two vidga rails what do I do to make the curtain pull seamless where I can pull to the far left or right? Are the two rails continuous?
Yes. They’re seamless. They sell a joiner at Ikea and it works really well and the curtains don’t even get hung up at the seam. It’s brilliant
@@MimzyandCompanydo you know what the joiner is called? I can’t find it on the ikea website!
@@kainatxkay I'm almost positive the track comes with a joiner. If not, they have right in the same area as the track. but I'm 99% sure it comes with it.
What if you want the drapes at the top to hide the rail?
Then you just insert your hooks lower down on the drape so theres a bit of a header above the hook to cover the rod.
wow I'm so happy I came across this video! Thanks
I’m glad this was helpful.
Can this be installed on plasterboard ceiling?
Yes I think so. I’m not completely sure what player board is and how it differs from drywall, but I don’t see why not.
Thank you
ازبن على الله ❤
Great video, thanks so much!
You’re welcome.
Love this video! Did the carrier come included or did you purchase separately?
Thank you. Pretty sure the carriers are sold separate . But now I can’t quite remember. 🤪
I don’t have a stud available on the ceiling of where I want to hang. Do you think it would be OK with strong anchors and fairly light curtains? Thanks for the video!
Absolutely! I used anchors for mine. None of mine are into studs. And I have A LOT of fabric hanging on mine.
@@MimzyandCompany still holding on strong ?
@@OGCJ10 yes!
if you feel like it wont hold use butterfly anchors.
From where do you get the curtains?
I made them. The fabric is from Joann fabric.
This was so helpful. Thank you!!!
You’re welcome thank you for commenting.
is the connector included in the track order?
yes, I believe so.
Very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Thankyou.
Thanks 👍
Thank you for the tutorial on this. I wish we can use this system in our bedroom. I don’t think it will look good with moldings
I’ve seen this track installed I front of thick crown molding and it still looks great.
Curious I have what is called ceiling cornice in Australia. Can I mount the track on the cornice. Made of composite (like plasterboard)
You are amazing! The hook added on both end is super smart idea!
