I totally understand why Timeless isn’t great writing but ending the record with “You still would’ve been mine” after opening with “Mine” is just the best thing ever to my little swiftie heart 😭💜 Looking forward to the NFR video but do we get a honeymoon video? 🤔
I was just thinking the other day about what a good book end Foolish One would be! Except I was thinking as a last track, not as a first. Like imagining all the ups and downs and heartbreak of Speak Now, the last line being "Your time is gonna come for confessions of love, he just wasn't the one" would've slayed
This is in NO way a brag but sometimes I am grateful for being a new swiftie (after Fearless TV) because I have a hard time hearing differences with the stolen versions and the TV versions in terms of production. Girl At Home was the only one that really stood out to me. I am curious about Reputation and 1989 TV because those are my most played. It's been interesting seeing the long time swifties pick up on so many details! I feel the same about Speak Now (the song). I thought it was so corny but now on TV, I'm making facial expressions when I sing it.
I have to agree. As a New Swifite (But a casual listener since 1989), I didn't really notice differences production-wise but could tell her voice changed a LOT- I'm also very curious about 1989 TV and Rep TV.
As a new swiftie, as well (after Red TV), I actually listened to Speak Now and Fearless as a kid and loved them, but especially Speak Now. I listened to it a lot after becoming a swiftie and I IMMEDIATELY noticed the changes in Sparks Fly and a lot of the songs in general. Though I have no idea what he means by "the glitch" in Back to December. Gotta see if I can pick that up next listen.
Yeah, I've listened to Back to December countless times, and I can't figure out what he means with the glitch-But I think that's just me not paying attention, I'm gonna test it out next time I put Speak Now on.@@rachelflora8511
thank you so much for this! it’s refreshing seeing someone that can be critical of taylor, even though i am a swiftie myself and i really don’t like it when people act like she can do nothing wrong
I thin Timeless is an extension of Love Story. Its "Juliet" looking back on their lofe together. She even says it started when he said hello in a crowded room
The reshuffling of the tracklist is so so good i love having playlists that tell a story and this one does it so smoothly, from now on whenever I want to listen to speak now I it’s entirety I’m going to be listening to that playlist.
I like the new lyric and the old one Seriously though, she was going to get dragged either way, so she changed it. It’s not the first time (picture to burn)
I take no issue with anyone who wants to continue to stream the older versions, especially if you grew up with Taylor. However, most swifties who stream have downloaded the tracks to listen to so they're not putting money in that horrible man's pocket...and I love this!
@@sacredsunflower8930 yaaaas!!! 💜💜💜 I'm so sad because some of my fav OG cds are no longer playable due to scratches but it's hard to let them go because of sentimental reasons
the bass in Haunted hits so much harder in the Taylor's Version i'm so thankful we have it. also regarding the lyric change in Better Than Revenge, she's done a lyric change before back in Debut when she removed a homophobic lyric in Picture To Burn. i think the lyric in BTR had to change because she doesn't stand with the message any more so she wanted her version to be something that she actually stands with. i actually really like the new lyric! it's really smart, the melody and rhyming still work well, and the message of "you stole something from me" is still there but without the slut-shaming element. it'll definitely take some getting used to but i'm not mad about it
Why is shaming a cheater bad? I get that the song was originally directed toward someone real, but it’s gone far beyond that. It’s cathartic for people who’ve been cheated on and a fair amount of the time, the women men cheat with are proud of it and proud of their skills in the bedroom. Slut shaming isn’t the same as calling someone out for their bad behavior.
@@dramaminedream22 literally what the fuck are you talking about? my guy the original lyric that was changed directly slut shamed the person the song was about. the original lyric was "she's better known for the things that she does on the mattress." how the fuck is that _not_ slut shaming??? genuinely please explain your thought process in how that line isn't slut shaming cause i don't see any other way you can interpret that lyric in the song. the new lyric is "he was a moth to the flame she was holding the matches" i literally said that the theme and meaning of the original version stays the same in the new one the only thing removed was the slut shaming part so either way _the song should still be cathartic to people who listen to it_ it's just less problematic now! also i never said shaming a cheater was bad??? either way tho we don't have any fucking proof that A) Joe cheated in the first place and B) the girl was proud/bragging about "stealing" Joe away from Taylor. and despite both of those points, iirc this was like peak Purity Ring era of Disney Channel where the Jonas brothers were like _known_ for wearing purity rings so if this was during that time, then unless Joe was lying about his "purity status" no one was having sex and therefor that entire point of "women men cheat with are proud of it and proud of their skills in the bedroom" is invalid. (also why the fuck are you blaming the women anyway it's the _men that are the fucking cheaters in the hypothetical situation anyway_ why get mad at the women for the men's decisions and actions??) not to mention that the song was literally written in response to Joe Jonas writing a song about his new girl being "so much better" than Taylor so she wrote BTR about the girl. _IF_ Joe cheated then the girl would be the side piece because unless she was _also_ in a relationship when getting with Joe, the only one who cheated would be the person who was already in a relationship, aka JOE. the song isn't even about being cheated on! it's about a girl "stealing" a guy from her! (i put stealing in quotation marks because you can't steal a person away from someone, they wouldn't leave a relationship unless they wanted to) Taylor not before long since the album was released said that she no longer believed in the message behind the song, so _of course_ when given the opportunity to change it to a message she more accurately agrees with, one that doesn't involve slut shaming, she's gonna take that opportunity in _her version_ to change it to something better. which is a good thing considering all the new fans she's acquired, especially new young fans, so these fans aren't also passed on this casual normalcy of slut shaming being okay. it's not and older Swifties know that while listening to the song that that line is problematic, newer (and younger) Swifties might not understand that (yet) so she doesn't want that message passed onto the recent/next generation of fans. either fucking way though, if you don't like Better Than Revenge (Taylor's Version)/prefer the stolen version, _YOU CAN JUST NOT LISTEN TO THE NEW ONE AND STILL LISTEN TO THE OLD VERSION_!! there is literally nothing stopping you from listening to the stolen version of any re-recorded song! the point of the re-recording of her albums is for Taylor to actually own her masters and to *devalue the stolen versions*, not to completely replace the them! you don't have to get Taylor's Version of Speak Now if you don't want to! TLDR: how is there any way to interpret the original lyric to be anything else that's not slut shaming? besides, i never said shaming a cheater was a bad thing. either way there's no proof that Joe cheated on Taylor and Better Than Revenge isn't about cheating anyway; it's about a girl "stealing" a guy away from you! there is no reason to involve slut shaming if you don't have to because slut shaming is misogynistic which is a bad thing! so it's good that Taylor changed the lyric in her version! (don't blame women for the actions and decisions men do!) i literally said in my original comment that the new lyric still stands up to the theme and meaning/message behind the song just without the slut shaming element so the song should still be cathartic to listen to, just less problematic! not to mention, if you prefer the stolen version of the song compared to Taylor's Version, you don't have to listen to Taylor's Version you can just simply listen to the old one because there is literally nothing stopping you from doing so! re-recording her masters isn't to completely replace the original versions, it's so that Taylor can own her masters and to *devalue* the stolen versions! the original songs are still there, go listen to them if you wish to!
The line change was always going to be damned if you do, damned if you don't. I think she chose to show in the clearest possible way that she no longer blames whoever the song is allegedly about (harm reduction) over canonicity. The new line is good and it works. I'm on board.
I think what bums me out about the Better than Revenge redo is that the lyric change has become the whole song. Which is tragic, because I think BTR TV would actually be the superior version of this song if she had left the lyric alone. She sounds SO GOOD in this song and the production rocks out even harder than the original, but as soon as you hit the chorus and you hear the changed lyric, it throws you right out of song! I’m actually kind of jealous of people who are hearing BTR TV without the baggage of having loved the original first. I suspect the changed lyric probably doesn’t disrupt the listening experience the way it is for everyone else and they may be able to enjoy BTR TV as the total banger that it is. Has anyone come across a fan edit that restores the old lyric into the new production? Because I’m dying for this.
I‘m new to the fandom and yet the lyric change immediately stood out to me. It‘s just the way she sings it, kinda muffled like she doesn‘t want to draw attention to it.
The way I squealed when I saw you uploaded. You have honestly become one of my favorite people to watch. You are SO good at what you do and I so appreciate the work you put in. It’s very noticeable. You’re amazing 💜💜✨
it’s interesting to think there might have been more enjoyable vault tracks but she had to pick ones that were self written for this project. no other vault needed to have a specific category like this one 😮 overall my fav vault still !! ❤
i feel like castles crumbling is subjective and underrated, i can’t really understand why you think it’s so bad :( to me it has a special meaning and is especially relatable and really gives an example of hubris and anagnorisis, and the emotion behind the song really draws me in and i think the chords go beautifully together. I feel like there’s a deeper meaning behind it and with her reflection after the 1989 there’s a sort of timelessness to it and i think its the antithesis of long live, which that juxtaposition i find is absolutely beautiful, and is completely purposeful and relevant to the album. I love your videos and seeing other peoples opinions i think castles crumbling has definitely got to be one of my favourite songs by taylor ever.
I really, REALLY love your insights - you have such a way of looking at things from a deep, raw and detailed perspective while also being extremely funny. It's no wonder why so many swifities are drawn to you, you're not scared to be sincere about your opinions and while sometimes it may seem a little harsh, this openess really adds some value and weight to Taylor-related discussions, which are often so shallow. If you have any insights on how to develop such way of understanding and grasping concpets + being intelligent + being funny it would be much appreciated - love this video btw 💜
I loved Mean so much this year. But I was bullied this year so that makes sense. You’re On Your Own Kid was my top song of the year according to Spotify
Am i the only person who loves Superman?? Is it corney? Yes but it's such a red flag of a song and she sings it with such naivety it makes me love it sm. It's like she's almost aware of how terrible mister John is but backs out right before she's about to realize it lol
I really appreciate your willingness to be honest and go against the grain, even if it’ll give you backlash. You remind me that my opinions aren’t wrong just because half the internet tells me they are.
Hey you! This is a prayer circle for Timeless. Come join before the tornado. The earthquake. The tsunami. The mf meteor. Lets all gather around and defend it. 💕💕💕💕💕💕
your storytelling with you re doing the tracklist is so damn good. You have such an eye for narative structure -- in fact, Taylor should hire you to do organize the tracklist for her next album!
Your videos never fail to make my day a little better! This channel is my safe comfort space. Thank you SO much! For all the serotonin boosts I got from your content ❤❤❤ Sending my love from Russia
I feel like a Norman f Rockwell video is more essential than maybe a chronological discography dive, good thing it’s coming! Going to join the BTD and UV video
Congrats on 35K, Zach. You absolutely deserve all the recognition because you put so much time and effort into your videos. You have helped me be more thoughtful when listening to music and always brighten up my day when you post!
I'm always so thankful for your videos because it's the only content I found that interacts with Taylor's music the same way I do - coming from a place of love, but also honest and critical. Thank you for creating it ✨
for some reason the most triggering part of this ranking is the title - I mean there's a random gap between the first purple heart and the sparkles and I can't unsee it now😩
The most annoying thing about the better than revenge lyric change is how if the lyric was the same it would be god tier or above tell me why treatment its so good and that one lyric just takes me out of it
The only thing I would debate is that in my opinion, she’s evolved what Innocent means to her. When she recorded SPTV she was “32 and still growing up now”. As a 27 year old who was bullied as a kid with ADHD and resulted having moments of self hatred during the release of this record. Even though I knew what it was about, I turned the song into talking to myself. I beat myself up over “mistakes” I made. Lyrics like “who you are is not what you did” or “Today is never too late to be brand new.” Really helped me get through that time and allowed me to forgive myself. I played it when I cried myself to sleep. As a 32 year old now at the age “he” was, I think Taylor is taking it as a self reflection on her own decisions and is forgiving herself because she says how in that moment she thought the “crowd was booing her” and feeling bad. Also reflecting on her decision to eventually forgive him when she should have stuck with her guns not to trust him. I think she’s forgiving herself and allowing herself to continue to grow. But that’s just my opinion.
honestly I’m here for the timeless slander because the first time I listened to it I effectively spaced out I didn’t even know the second chorus is different and somehow worse than the first lol
1. Foolish One 2. Electric Touch 3. Sparks Fly 4. The Story of Us 5. Dear John 6. Better Than Revenge 7. Haunted 8. When Emma Falls in Love 9. Enchanted 10. Timeless 11. Mine 12. Ours 13. Back to December 14. Last Kiss 15. Never Grow Up 16. Long Live
Love your reasoning for the rearranged track list. I would do this: 1. Sparks Fly (although it bangs more than electric touch- it is more of a longing feeling..and a better opener). 2. Electric Touch (now they are actually touching). 3. Foolish One (and he’s now letting her down…sparks are fading) 4. The Story of Us (she still holding on to the lust…) 5. Dear John (she’s realized he’s a piece of shit). 6. Better Than Revenge (she’s in denial and blaming his new gf for taking him away) 7. Haunted (he’s really done some work on her) 8. Last Kiss (accepting lost) 9. When Emma Falls In Love (comparing herself to others and taking notes) 10. Back to December (self reflecting -!: feeling bad over once being the archer to someone before…and knowing how bad it hurts now) 11. Enchanted (meeting someone new) 12. I Can See You (new daydream about this new lover …but hornier) 13. Mine (she’s in it for keeps…on this relationship’s future manifesting vibe) 14. Ours (defending it) 15. Timeless (they’re really in love) It’s a journey of someone who went from lusting and thinking that’s what love is to someone who is now in love. The songs that didn’t make the cut on official album cause it didn’t fit into this story line were: Innocent, Speak Now, Mean, Superman, Never Grow Up, castles crumbling, and Long Live. But I wouldn’t mind her throwing out an EP of these about her career during this time: 1. Castles Crumbling 2.Mean 3. Innocent 4. Never grow up 5. Long live Speak Now and Superman, for me, should’ve stayed in the vault.
Personally I think foolish one works better as a closer for speak now, and mine still as the opening track. Mine is like a statement for this love she doesn’t have yet but she can see so clearly, and a relationship that all the songs that come after are the ups and downs of trying to find that love. Second to last I would put When Emma Falls In Love, as she’s now taken a step back and seeing and learning from someone else’s relationship. And after all of the lessons she has learned in speak now, foolish one is her telling her past self (the one we just heard through the entire album) some advice she needs to hear, and I just think ending the album on the line “he just wasn’t the one” is just truly perfect, because she’s never gonna stop looking for that person who is “the best thing that’s ever been mine” Here is my rearranged track list: 1. Mine (describes the relationship she wants) 2. Sparks Fly (the start of a new relationship) 3. Timeless (miss delusional thinking it’s never gonna end) 4. Story of Us (It does end and she hasn’t processed it all the way and wants things to go back) 5. Dear John (realizes what he did and is glad she got away) 6. Enchanted (meets a new guy) 7. Haunted (he literally gave her something that’ll haunt her when he’s not around, specifically haunting her in the wake of this new relationship) 8. Electric Touch (wants it to work out, but isn’t completely sure, she’s only “gotta feeling”) 9. Better Than Revenge (he cheats) 10. If This Was A Movie (she hasn’t yet come to terms that it’s over, still fantasizing that if this was a movie he would come back and apologize and it would be ok) 11. Last Kiss (reminiscing and reflecting on the relationship) 12. When Emma Falls In Love (looking at someone else’s relationship to see a better example) 13. Foolish One (coming to terms that he just wasn’t the one, and that she’ll just take the long way to find “the best thing that’s ever been mine”)
I'm just so shocked because you bashed my two of the songs in my top three Speak Now vaults. I literally almost cried to Timeless and Castles Crumbling!
6:08 Thanks ...How can i totally ignore the Voice that help me through my adulthood ....felt guilty for streaming old one...but you lift that up. Thank you so much. U are doing great.
Foolish One is my fave vault track, followed by electric touch so I am having a good time seeing them as your openers (and castles crumbling not on there 💜)
i actually really enjoy the tracklist: i think it is pretty cohesive & it tells a story from start to beginning. my only PERSONAL quibble w/ the tracklist is the fact that i can see you was left off. that song is my jam so i need her somewhere in this tracklist. i could honestly see her be placed in between haunted and if this was a movie bc icsy still has a pop-rock edge to it but the lyrical content comes off as tay tay being delulu which fits the upcoming themes of the next few tracks (wefil, if this was a movie, etc.). those are just my thoughts!!
He rlly likes I can see you (at least I’m pretty sure he still does) but in his reaction video he rated it 9/10 but imo and he probably feels like this too but I can see you doesn’t rlly fit on speak now
Here is the Swiftologist tracklist: Foolish One Electric Touch Sparks Fly Story of Us Dear John Better than Revenge Haunted When Emma Falls In Love Enchanted Timeless Mine Ours Back to December Last Kiss Never Grow Up Long Live
People fr act like Taylor herself will invade their house with a team of snipers if they listen to the original version of a song, it’s not that serious 😭
Before I even start saying what I want to say, let me clarify I am in no way whatsoever shaming or judging anyone's opinion. When it comes to the Better Than Revenge lyric change here's my perspective. I thought the original lyric was so bad-ass and unexpected from Taylor, and I think it was perfect for getting across her emotion at the time of the original stolen recording. However, I see the TV and the stolen versions as 2 different pieces. The stolen is her raw emotion in the moment, healing from the pain. These TVs are her reminiscing on the pain after being healed or reminiscing on the pain she is still struggling to heal from. This is why the emotion and pain is less evident in some of TVs, she is not feeling the pain as intensely as when the stolen was recorded. This also explains my thoughts on Dear John, and the same goes for some 'naive' or 'foolish' songs sounding different (e.g. Sparks Fly) because the TVs are more mature. I also think this is why songs like 'The Story Of Us' sound SO amazing in the TV, because this entire song is about reflecting on a toxic relationship, and having more time to reflect creates more insight. 'Haunted' is another great example that proves my point here. Going back to Better Than Revenge, I 100% agree that TV is not meant to replace stolen versions, but is rather devaluing them, in Zach's words. I fully admit that I still listen to stolen versions of songs that have been re-released, simply because I find them better, or am simply here for the nostalgia. From what I have gathered about Taylor as a person, I think for her it would be morally wrong to keep this lyric, given how much she encourages anti-hate and feminism. With that being said, I entirely understand where people are coming from who grew up listening to this music, and all of a sudden it's being changed. I am certain I will also be going back to the original to listen to it. The nostalgia and how iconic it is will always bring me back to it. However, I also understand the reason behind the change, and fully support it. At the end of the day, I am just happy she is even putting out re-recordings. I think us swifties need to keep in mind that yes, she puts this music out for her fans, but she writes it for HERSELF to get herself through problems and difficult emotions. I would rather her put out something that is less my taste and more authentically her. Let's not try to force her to write something trendy or pleasing to us that isn't her. Again, not judging anyone here, just explaining my thoughts and really trying to remind people of what's important. I'm proud of you, whoever you are reading this comment! I love you, you've got this
I actually agree with you about the quality of the re-recordings. Especially the Tell Me Why/Hey Stephen treatment ones - i instantly knew they slapped. The only thing I'd add is that I'm very surprised by Innocent. Despite the awkward circumstances of the song, I think TV absolutely elevates it. The absolutely arrangement is beautiful. The most off to me was Sparks Fly since the first listen. There were also a lot of sloppy moments in the SNTV
@LaurenLaass the thing is that the instruments in the intro are the same but engineered a bit differently i guess - acoustic and electric guitar. But on the TV the electric guitar solo blends into the background guitar a lot more, plus the main tone is way less clear. Plus the snare has a very weird tone. All of those would be fine if it was more polished? I don't might slight differences when they sound good but for sparks fly I believe they don't. But for Dear John its a different story. They also sound different. (I believe guitar strumming is a bit different - in the original, the first strum was heavily accented and the rest of the bar was very delicately strumed, whereas in the TV the guitar has similar dynamics through the bar) but the og guitar is much sharper and clear and the TVs guitar is fuller.
the story of us also sounds so so different. the electric guitars sound way too aggressively forward and the tone is different. it's a shame because it's one of my favorites from the og.
Hii, I would love to see a video of you ranking all the Taylor Swift vault tracks and making an album of the best ones I love your channel, hope you continue posting!
...gosh i just realized that zach's taylor trinity (Forever & Always, Holy Ground, and Last Kiss) got bungled/wasn't executed well for some reason in this TV project. and as someone who also enjoys all 3, i don't know how to feel... p.s. hi zach! first time commenting on your channel! i love all your content! i don't always agree with you but it's always refreshing to hear your takes and honest opinions being also a long time fan myself! sending luv to you and also madeline!
oh my god i completely agree w you on speak now the song!! while i certainly have always enjoyed that song, there's something about this new version that is hitting way different and i find myself actually going outta my way to listen now
I Can See You is her best music video since LWYMMD…the look slayed and it had that cathartic element where I had a stupid smile on my face by the ending. I would be very surprised if you didn’t like it
@@bqnanaaa4838 That's why I think it's good...her videos tend to be a bit too obvious and on the nose for me. Not every lyric needs a literal visual attached
I agree with your thoughts on better than revenge TV. Her changing the lyric on BTR is kinda funny bc the whole song could be seen as “wrong” bc the song talks about blaming the woman for taking and stealing the man. That in itself can be seen bad feminism so I’d think by her logic of changing the lyric she’d have to change many components of the song.
*Zach’s Speak Now remake* 1. Foolish One 2. Electric Touch 3. Sparks Fly 4. The Story Of Us 5. Dear John 6. Better Than Revenge 7. Haunted 8. When Emma Falls In Love 9. Enchanted 10. Timeless 11. Mine 12. Ours 13. Back To December 14. Last Kiss 15. Never Grow Up 16. Long Live
Do u think that 'I can see you' is like bait for us? To see how we react. I mean i have strange feeling that Taylor gonna give us alternative/ guitar album.
i was so disappointed in Mean as well and was relieved to see you agree. there is something so sassy & twangy in the original - i still enjoy it in my 40s… 😬- but it falls flat in the re-record …☹️
ppl saying not to stream the old vers bc they don't want scooter to make money from them but didn't he sell her masters? & she wrote the songs so she'll still make money from them
Playing the comparison game because its the best part of these ranking videos (just doing the OG album for times sake) 1. Mine, great gown I think she sounds similar to the original but she made it feel fresh. 2. Sparks Fly, I like the beat It is not /bad/ but I would agree the song feels some what choppy, it doesn't sound as fun and playful as the original. The live version truly superior. 3. Back to December, Fifteen treatment (or great gown) I actually think this is a very solid recording, I think her deeper vocals are highlighted in this track. 4. Speak Now, Hey Stephen treatment I would completely agree, originally this song would be ranked lower but the update voical makes this song so much more fun! 5. Dear John, great gown I would agree that dear john along with one or two other songs on the album feel like two different version of the song. The original holding all of the heartbreak and the new one reflecting on the past as an older adult. 6, Mean, should've stayed in the vault not my favorite track to being with, the track is notably different, I think the song may sound less annoying than the original? 7. The Story of Us, Hey stephen treatment Similar to mine the recording made this song feel fresh and it goes so much hard than the original. The next chapter is also to die for. 8. Never grow up, great gown This has always been one of my least favorite songs on the album. Having the adult vocals sounds so much more powerful and meaningful. 9. Enchanted, I like the beat or tv sucks this is my favorite taylor song of all time, and I was soooo sad that this song wasn't as ~enchanting~ as the original. The biggest downfall of this album is sometime it feel like she is singing but not SINGING in this album. And as you mention there's a degree of that we will never get back from the girl who was experiencing said feeling in the moment, but sometimes it feels like a little more emotions could be given into the song (Taylor I love you I'm sorry). I know I'll like the recording more with time, but I don't think it will ever go as hard as the original (I am sad we don't have a full live version from the eras tour). This song it is a combination of the vocal (the flater tone, some times feeling she is stretching her voice but could actually just be the backing vocal), the instrumental especially the guitar at the beginning...idk just sad about this one. 10. Better than revenge, hey Stephen I think this goes harder than the original with that said I wish she went as hard in the verses as she does during the chorus. The ad libs are INSANE in this song. 11. Innocent, fifteen treatment I have always liked innocent, and it has always been miles ahead of never grow up to me. Personally I do not find this song to be condescending, but very heartfelt. I have cried many times to this song, especially when turning it inward, when depression is strong or when it feels like everything is going wrong. It allows me to hold space for the hurt and how it impacts all my parts. 12. Haunted, Hey Stephen tx She goes above and beyond. We all knew it was coming. Also hello, we always love a string moment. 13. Last Kiss, fifteen treatment This feels like a different song and has a different impact but its just a beautiful. 14. Long Live, great gown/fifteen you know she put her entire heart in this song I would also agree that the experience of listening to the album sounds very different depending on the device that you listening from. My computer speaker makes the album sound similar to the original, car speaker makes the higher ranked songs really go hard, and headphones really emphasize all the nuances of the songs for the good, the bad, and every difference in between
Dear Swiftologist, First and foremost, I am not sure how to feel about the fact that this video sent me into a 6 hour deep dive of Speak Now Lore. Given that those hours were in the middle of the night...I am going with exhausted and grateful. Second, being a dinosaur (mid 40's), I see Never Grow Up from the other side. I think about the magic and memories I try to create for my daughters and sons. Let's just say It Hits Different this time. Third, Adam Young is a delightful young man and I can't wait to see him in concert this fall. I am sure he is Enchanted by Midnight Rain, but ultimately, he is sunshine. Lastly, all of the vault tracks are sus. They telegraph JOE so desperately I want to tell Taylor, "You Need To Calm Down. Maybe he was The 1, but Where You Ready For It?" That being said, I am a Lover Timeless as much as I love rummaging through others former treasures and giving them new life, which is considerable. The other 5 tracks are so overproduced it is just Mean. Call It What You Want. I Am Not Sorry.🤷♀️
people that are telling you Timeless is about her grandparents in hope that you'll like the song more.. do they know that you are not the biggest fan of epiphany and marjorie lol
I think she knew that if she was going to change the lyric, then she would have to balance it out by going the HELL OFFFFF in the re-recording and boy, she did that 👏🏼
enchanted is my favorite track from the stollen speak now so i might be too picky but i think if they louder the music and blend it a little bit more, it would make the this version feel more magical and more faithful to the original version.
I think Taylor needed to change BTR in order to give her 100% performance. She's not faking a shaky breath or anything that doesn't feel real for her, and I'm fine with that
exactly! this is what I was thinking and if that is what it takes to get these amazing performances, especially in BTR, then obviously she should be able to change things.

I think instead of focusing on the lyric change, we should all be thankful that we didn't get Better than Revenge (Elvira Remix)
Don't jinx it 😭 she might still do it

I like having both versions of girl at home! Elvira version is so current and fresh! But it was alarming the first time I heard it lol
I totally understand why Timeless isn’t great writing but ending the record with “You still would’ve been mine” after opening with “Mine” is just the best thing ever to my little swiftie heart 😭💜
Looking forward to the NFR video but do we get a honeymoon video? 🤔
@sateayamkremes it’s my favorite Speak Now song by a long shot just my opinion
@sateayamkremes HAHA definitely
YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY CHANGED THE WAY I INTERACT WITH TAYLOR'S MUSIC IN THE LAST 2 YEARS...THANK YOU SO MUCH🥰
I love that for you!!
Same!! Thank you Zack! ❤️
I love the foolish one appreciation 💜 it has easily become my favorite vault track, it truly captures younger Taylor the way no other vault song does
agree!!
I was just thinking the other day about what a good book end Foolish One would be! Except I was thinking as a last track, not as a first. Like imagining all the ups and downs and heartbreak of Speak Now, the last line being "Your time is gonna come for confessions of love, he just wasn't the one" would've slayed
I like Innocent TV because it kind of seems like she has reclaimed it and she's talking to her younger self.
agree 100%
Oh yesss watching the swiftologist in action!! Taylor is truly making you the no-days-off-ologist
truly....
The reshuffling of the tracklist is so so good i love having playlists that tell a story and this one does it so smoothly, from now on whenever I want to listen to speak now I it’s entirety I’m going to be listening to that playlist.
tbh I think the lyric change 'he was a moth to the flame she was holding the matches' still fits so well
No it's annoying and it's against the canon and it's pandering
it's a good lyric, but it doesn't fit into BTR very well...
I agree. It flows nicely and I like the imagery
I like the new lyric and the old one
Seriously though, she was going to get dragged either way, so she changed it. It’s not the first time (picture to burn)
I like it for its poetry, a huge level increase from the original version.
I take no issue with anyone who wants to continue to stream the older versions, especially if you grew up with Taylor.
However, most swifties who stream have downloaded the tracks to listen to so they're not putting money in that horrible man's pocket...and I love this!
I still have my OG cds 💿 from 2007-2017 🫶🤠

the bass in Haunted hits so much harder in the Taylor's Version i'm so thankful we have it. also regarding the lyric change in Better Than Revenge, she's done a lyric change before back in Debut when she removed a homophobic lyric in Picture To Burn. i think the lyric in BTR had to change because she doesn't stand with the message any more so she wanted her version to be something that she actually stands with. i actually really like the new lyric! it's really smart, the melody and rhyming still work well, and the message of "you stole something from me" is still there but without the slut-shaming element. it'll definitely take some getting used to but i'm not mad about it
Why is shaming a cheater bad?
(also why the fuck are you blaming the women anyway it's the _men that are the fucking cheaters in the hypothetical situation anyway_ why get mad at the women for the men's decisions and actions??)
not to mention that the song was literally written in response to Joe Jonas writing a song about his new girl being "so much better" than Taylor so she wrote BTR about the girl. (i put stealing in quotation marks because you can't steal a person away from someone, they wouldn't leave a relationship unless they wanted to)
Taylor not before long since the album was released said that she no longer believed in the message behind the song, so _of course_ when given the opportunity to change it to a message she more accurately agrees with, one that doesn't involve slut shaming, she's gonna take that opportunity in _her version_ to change it to something better. which is a good thing considering all the new fans she's acquired, especially new young fans, so these fans aren't also passed on this casual normalcy of slut shaming being okay. it's not and older Swifties know that while listening to the song that that line is problematic, newer (and younger) Swifties might not understand that (yet) so she doesn't want that message passed onto the recent/next generation of fans.
either fucking way though, if you don't like Better Than Revenge (Taylor's Version)/prefer the stolen version, _YOU CAN JUST NOT LISTEN TO THE NEW ONE AND STILL LISTEN TO THE OLD VERSION_!! there is literally nothing stopping you from listening to the stolen version of any re-recorded song! the point of the re-recording of her albums is for Taylor to actually own her masters and to *devalue the stolen versions*, not to completely replace the them! you don't have to get Taylor's Version of Speak Now if you don't want to!
(don't blame women for the actions and decisions men do!) i literally said in my original comment that the new lyric still stands up to the theme and meaning/message behind the song just without the slut shaming element so the song should still be cathartic to listen to, just less problematic!
not to mention, if you prefer the stolen version of the song compared to Taylor's Version, you don't have to listen to Taylor's Version you can just simply listen to the old one because there is literally nothing stopping you from doing so! re-recording her masters isn't to completely replace the original versions, it's so that Taylor can own her masters and to *devalue* the stolen versions! the original songs are still there, go listen to them if you wish to!
because “she’s better known for the things that she does on the mattress” was just rumors and they weren’t true. i think, right? idk
@@jonah1854 even if it was only referencing rumors that still doesn't make it _not_ slut shaming tho
The song is still slut shaming. The vintage dresses line was left in.
You’re amazing 💜💜✨
thank u so much!!
it’s interesting to think there might have been more enjoyable vault tracks but she had to pick ones that were self written for this project. no other vault needed to have a specific category like this one 😮 overall my fav vault still !! ❤
i feel like castles crumbling is subjective and underrated, i can’t really understand why you think it’s so bad :( to me it has a special meaning and is especially relatable and really gives an example of hubris and anagnorisis, and the emotion behind the song really draws me in and i think the chords go beautifully together.

You’re On Your Own Kid was my top song of the year according to Spotify

your storytelling with you re doing the tracklist is so damn good. You have such an eye for narative structure -- in fact, Taylor should hire you to do organize the tracklist for her next album!
I absolutely agree with you about Last Kiss. “Maybe this thing was a masterpiece till you tore it all up!”😩

for some reason the most triggering part of this ranking is the title - I mean there's a random gap between the first purple heart and the sparkles and I can't unsee it now😩
The most annoying thing about the better than revenge lyric change is how if the lyric was the same it would be god tier or above tell me why treatment its so good and that one lyric just takes me out of it
The only thing I would debate is that in my opinion, she’s evolved what Innocent means to her.
But that’s just my opinion.
honestly I’m here for the timeless slander because the first time I listened to it I effectively spaced out I didn’t even know the second chorus is different and somehow worse than the first lol
i think it’s insane and cruel to put back to december, last kiss and never grow up together, but the narrative makes perfect sense

Speak now and 1989 for me
1. Foolish One
2. Electric Touch
3. Sparks Fly
4. The Story of Us
5. Dear John
6. Better Than Revenge
7. Haunted
8. When Emma Falls in Love
9. Enchanted
10. Timeless
11. Mine
12. Ours
13. Back to December
14. Last Kiss
15. Never Grow Up
16. Long Live
Speak now title track is actually my fav song of all time 💜
Yess another swiftologist ranking video! ♥️ I love these kind of videos you make
Love your reasoning for the rearranged track list.
I would do this:
1. Sparks Fly (although it bangs more than electric touch- it is more of a longing feeling..and a better opener).
2. Electric Touch (now they are actually touching).
3. Foolish One (and he’s now letting her down…sparks are fading)
4. The Story of Us (she still holding on to the lust…)
5. Dear John (she’s realized he’s a piece of shit).
6. Better Than Revenge (she’s in denial and blaming his new gf for taking him away)
7. Haunted (he’s really done some work on her)
8. Last Kiss (accepting lost)
9. When Emma Falls In Love (comparing herself to others and taking notes)
10. Back to December (self reflecting -!: feeling bad over once being the archer to someone before…and knowing how bad it hurts now)
11. Enchanted (meeting someone new)
12. I Can See You (new daydream about this new lover …but hornier)
13. Mine (she’s in it for keeps…on this relationship’s future manifesting vibe)
14. Ours (defending it)
15. Timeless (they’re really in love)
It’s a journey of someone who went from lusting and thinking that’s what love is to someone who is now in love.
The songs that didn’t make the cut on official album cause it didn’t fit into this story line were:
Innocent, Speak Now, Mean, Superman, Never Grow Up, castles crumbling, and Long Live.
But I wouldn’t mind her throwing out an EP of these about her career during this time:
1. Castles Crumbling
2.Mean
3. Innocent
4. Never grow up
5. Long live
Speak Now and Superman, for me, should’ve stayed in the vault.
And after all of the lessons she has learned in speak now, foolish one is her telling her past self (the one we just heard through the entire album) some advice she needs to hear, and I just think ending the album on the line “he just wasn’t the one” is just truly perfect, because she’s never gonna stop looking for that person who is “the best thing that’s ever been mine” Here is my rearranged track list:
1. Mine (describes the relationship she wants)
2. Sparks Fly (the start of a new relationship)
3. Timeless (miss delusional thinking it’s never gonna end)
4. Story of Us (It does end and she hasn’t processed it all the way and wants things to go back)
5. Dear John (realizes what he did and is glad she got away)
6. Enchanted (meets a new guy)
7. Haunted (he literally gave her something that’ll haunt her when he’s not around, specifically haunting her in the wake of this new relationship)
8. Electric Touch (wants it to work out, but isn’t completely sure, she’s only “gotta feeling”)
9. Better Than Revenge (he cheats)
10. If This Was A Movie (she hasn’t yet come to terms that it’s over, still fantasizing that if this was a movie he would come back and apologize and it would be ok)
11. Last Kiss (reminiscing and reflecting on the relationship)
12. When Emma Falls In Love (looking at someone else’s relationship to see a better example)
13. Foolish One (coming to terms that he just wasn’t the one, and that she’ll just take the long way to find “the best thing that’s ever been mine”)
But as always still an iconic video
I'm so glad I happen to mostly prefer Taylor's versions. But I agree that Red has the most songs that I prefer the original version of.
I'm just so shocked because you bashed my two of the songs in my top three Speak Now vaults. I literally almost cried to Timeless and Castles Crumbling!

I love you for posting this. I just shed a tear. Keep it up! be safe and more speak now every day
Foolish One is my fave vault track, followed by electric touch so I am having a good time seeing them as your openers (and castles crumbling not on there 💜)
i actually really enjoy the tracklist: i think it is pretty cohesive & it tells a story from start to beginning. my only PERSONAL quibble w/ the tracklist is the fact that i can see you was left off. that song is my jam so i need her somewhere in this tracklist. i could honestly see her be placed in between haunted and if this was a movie bc icsy still has a pop-rock edge to it but the lyrical content comes off as tay tay being delulu which fits the upcoming themes of the next few tracks (wefil, if this was a movie, etc.). those are just my thoughts!!
He rlly likes I can see you (at least I’m pretty sure he still does) but in his reaction video he rated it 9/10 but imo and he probably feels like this too but I can see you doesn’t rlly fit on speak now
And on another note, 7:40 you’re so real for that😭 will say this prayer every day for the rest of my life
Here is the Swiftologist tracklist:
Foolish One
Electric Touch
Sparks Fly
Story of Us
Dear John
Better than Revenge
Haunted
When Emma Falls In Love
Enchanted
Timeless
Mine
Ours
Back to December

Never Grow Up

I love you, you've got this
YESSSS! getting fed. Love u Zach ❤
Sparks Fly is one of my favorites and right when the guitar started playing I could tell it was off. I didn’t like it.
The disclaimer is my fave disclaimer of all time 😂 i love you for that.

The video doesnt go with the lyrics at all though. Kinda makes me dislike it alot but the concept itself is good
@@bqnanaaa4838 That's why I think it's good...her videos tend to be a bit too obvious and on the nose for me. Not every lyric needs a literal visual attached
@@bqnanaaa4838 The sound of the song does fit but I agree that the lyrics don't really match up with the plot.
I agree with your thoughts on better than revenge TV. Her changing the lyric on BTR is kinda funny bc the whole song could be seen as “wrong” bc the song talks about blaming the woman for taking and stealing the man. That in itself can be seen bad feminism so I’d think by her logic of changing the lyric she’d have to change many components of the song.

you're on to smth
maybe shes like...testing the waters? idk though maybe.
i was so disappointed in Mean as well and was relieved to see you agree. there is something so sassy & twangy in the original - i still enjoy it in my 40s… 😬- but it falls flat in the re-record …☹️
ppl saying not to stream the old vers bc they don't want scooter to make money from them but didn't he sell her masters? & she wrote the songs so she'll still make money from them
What is the production glitch in back to December you were talking about? I can’t find anyone else talking about it
Right like it's good i love back to December TV
Playing the comparison game because its the best part of these ranking videos (just doing the OG album for times sake)
1. Mine, great gown
I think she sounds similar to the original but she made it feel fresh.
2. Sparks Fly, I like the beat
It is not /bad/ but I would agree the song feels some what choppy, it doesn't sound as fun and playful as the original. The live version truly superior.
3. Back to December, Fifteen treatment (or great gown)
I actually think this is a very solid recording, I think her deeper vocals are highlighted in this track.
4. Speak Now, Hey Stephen treatment
I would completely agree, originally this song would be ranked lower but the update voical makes this song so much more fun!
5. Dear John, great gown
I would agree that dear john along with one or two other songs on the album feel like two different version of the song. The original holding all of the heartbreak and the new one reflecting on the past as an older adult.
6, Mean, should've stayed in the vault
not my favorite track to being with, the track is notably different, I think the song may sound less annoying than the original?
7. The Story of Us, Hey stephen treatment
Similar to mine the recording made this song feel fresh and it goes so much hard than the original. The next chapter is also to die for.
8. Never grow up, great gown
This has always been one of my least favorite songs on the album. Having the adult vocals sounds so much more powerful and meaningful.
9. Enchanted, I like the beat or tv sucks
this is my favorite taylor song of all time, and I was soooo sad that this song wasn't as ~enchanting~ as the original.
10. Better than revenge, hey Stephen
I think this goes harder than the original with that said I wish she went as hard in the verses as she does during the chorus. The ad libs are INSANE in this song.
11. Innocent, fifteen treatment
I have always liked innocent, and it has always been miles ahead of never grow up to me. Personally I do not find this song to be condescending, but very heartfelt. I have cried many times to this song, especially when turning it inward, when depression is strong or when it feels like everything is going wrong. It allows me to hold space for the hurt and how it impacts all my parts.
12. Haunted, Hey Stephen tx
She goes above and beyond. We all knew it was coming. Also hello, we always love a string moment.
13. Last Kiss, fifteen treatment
This feels like a different song and has a different impact but its just a beautiful.
14. Long Live, great gown/fifteen
you know she put her entire heart in this song
I would also agree that the experience of listening to the album sounds very different depending on the device that you listening from. My computer speaker makes the album sound similar to the original, car speaker makes the higher ranked songs really go hard, and headphones really emphasize all the nuances of the songs for the good, the bad, and every difference in between
Dear Swiftologist,
First and foremost, I am not sure how to feel about the fact that this video sent me into a 6 hour deep dive of Speak Now Lore.
I think she knew that if she was going to change the lyric, then she would have to balance it out by going the HELL OFFFFF in the re-recording and boy, she did that 👏🏼
Your videos immediately make my day! God, I love your honesty (& your pray, cause it is the best goddamn thing in the world)! 💜
Speak now the song works in the delusional section. We need the demo version of I can see you to leak so it can be placed
I saw Lana in hyde Park too and it was the most magical, destroying and healing night of my life ✨ We are waiting for the lanaologist to come back!
Which part glitches in back to december?
I'm so happy that I inspired the fifteen treatment tier on the tier list for this video! btw great video but mean needs more love LOL
finally someone who appreciates foolish one!!
enchanted is my favorite track from the stollen speak now so i might be too picky but i think if they louder the music and blend it a little bit more, it would make the this version feel more magical and more faithful to the original version.
Iconic in every video
Your tastelessness is actually impressive omg❤️
ok whos worse though. our lover ME! or Superman ?
ME!
I love your videos!!!
URGHHHH i wish i could've gotten that tie dye tank top!!
