I’ll have to disagree on this one. I’m a photographer, for video, the S9 is much better than the x100vi (though I have seen a short film shot on the x100vi that looks amazing). But for photography, there are too many limitations, EVF, the shutter, lack of controls, size, flash, and when you factor in lenses, price, as FF glass is expensive. Then you have little things, like a built in ND, it’s a good f2, a 40mb sensor, yes apsc, but the results are great. So I’m not sold on the S9, FF isn’t the be all of cameras.
Understandable! The s9 is for sure not targeted for only photographers A couple things though, size is smaller on the s9 and there is really cheap FF glass. You also have more flexibility on lens choices and even the ticket for the x100, the simulations.

Now that I don't go over f9 (except when I expicitly want nice sunstars), I have had no major AF problems with the S5 II at all. Actually, now that I've shot at a major local sport event (Motonet GP) at 6K Open Gate and, after realizing I had tons of visitors from India looking for their women's 100m hurdles-winning star Jyothi Yarraji, I've grabbed around 25 6K 30p video frames showing her two runs. This isn't a real X100V competitor. You can't substitute with the S9 because you are going to get into banding situations in low light scenarios that the X100V doesn't have to face- for photography. Also the X100VI has a decent IBIS even one stop behind. The X100V keeps small, the S9 does not once you add a reasonable lens. In a video context, maybe makes more sense but what I said is part of the issue at least for photographers. The challenge to me is why not an iPhone for video content creation. But then…. Why wouldn’t you just get a camera for content creation? 😏
@@AnthonyRodriguezz Yes, Banding issues. If you take stills in artificial light with reasonable shutter speeds to freeze movement, you will have banding (like shadowy horizontal lines across the frame) because the camera only has an electronic shutter *and* the sensor readout is not that fast (for this sensor). Not everyone who went to Japan has mentioned it, but the ones that did, even have samples showing the issue to watch out for. The IBIS of the Panasonic is better. The AF will be better for being faster (though Fuji's AF for stills is not bad, for video Lumix is better). But if you are shooting stills, in mixed artificial light, events, or at night on the street you risk banding once you hit 1/80, 1/125, 1/160, 1/200-2500 or faster in those light conditions. Yes, we can throw the paper specs. Point is the X100VI is not like it has no IBIS. And the critique on the size is pretty valid- the S9 will get bigger when you add a reasonable lens. Probably more people use the hotshoe for the additional thumb grip. Many people like the hybrid optical finder/EVF, though a lot of people will use it with the rear LCD only. I doubt most buyers are buying the X100 because of the mechanical shutter. For a lot of buyers, they won't even use the shutter speed, aperture and ISO dials and leave it on full auto. Also you can flip the screen around and do selfies and see yourself, which is important to the phone upgrade crowd. You can moan about the banding issue all you like, but its really not a big deal for most people (not specifically night time street photographers) in the world. You are aware that if a picture doesn't quite come out the way you want, you're able to take another one with different settings?
The 15 minute time limit is a deal breaker come on it’s 2024 Every camera company need to stay in their lane . Fujifilm mastered the film simulations .the competition keep failing
This competition didn’t “fail” thought with the simulations… if anything it’s MUCH better and wayyy more flexible. I’m with you on the record limit. But honestly… nobody should be buying this camera as an A cam for any kind of professional work
- Record limits (FHD : 20min in 2024 !! - No mechanical shutter (when an already problematic rolling shutter, YOU MAKE IT WORSE) - No evf - MICRO HDMI in the RIGHT SIDE (even if you wanted to try an external monitor, you simply CAN'T ) - You need to buy additional grip (the design and functionality of the camera is garbage), I refuse to describe any more. ALL THIS ONLY 300 bucks less than the s5ii!!! Congratulations to Panasonic. And the biggest congratulations for the innovative 26mm "lens". Everyone who loves Panasonic, this is definitely what we've been waiting for...
The problem is the price is soo near to the s5ii I mean If they can get rid or at least extend the time limit to 30min like Canon of old I think it would be reasonable The 10min record limits just weird
Love the dissenting view, ha! The one issue I have is: RUclipsrs who call all of these smaller cameras “everyday carry”. They’re still really big! You might as well get a bigger camera that has better ergonomics. Love the Ricoh because I think it is an ACTUAL everyday carry.
The Ricoh is definitely smaller! I think when you’re looking at an everyday carry it need to be able to fit in at least a fanny pack or something EASY. Easier the better
The Panasonic S9 is not a camera for filmmakers, or professional contrent creators, or photographers. It is for a niche category of intermediate creators that want fast results but with good quality without messing with codecs and enormous file sizes. For that, in my opinion, the S5 with its full frame sensor kind of answered that very well.
@@AnthonyRodriguezz It’s not made for talking head stuff, it’s targeted at vloggers, people on the move who take 1-5 min clips at a time and that’s why it’s compact.
It can take 15minute clips in 4k 24. I could easily use this for talking heads! Now that I actually have the camera… the body size in conjunction with the app and the photo/video features and size is absolutely wild for quick content. That app is something else 🤯
I was kind of excited to see what looked like another Fuji X100VI competitor pop up on the market and then I saw the lens they paired it with and just laughed. I have no idea who this camera is made for. (Btw the math is f/3 on the Fuji). Multiply the aperture and the focal length by the crop factor and you come up with the equivalent.
the camera is not bad but its not good enough for the price. only electronic shutter for such a slow sensor is a big miss, other issues I see - almost no customisation for the buttons and the recording limits are crazy restrictive. having fullframe and great IBIS in such a small body is amazing tho. Seems fun to use but has its issues
For sure the price is the hang up. This camera isn’t meant to be a professional beast. More like a grab and go camera that has one of the best images for any mirrorless on the market
These were my thoughts exactly. I also have the Ricoh GRiiix and this (at a lower price point) would have turned my head. I am happy with the Ricoh for now. Ta for the video.
I think it's quite cool, but too expensive and they should have put a shutter in it. That's it really 😂 But yes the drama clickmill has been in overdrive for some reason.
@@AnthonyRodriguezz I think it sadly gets a lot of views and so on... but yeah, it's a cool camera and lots of people will love it. Just waiting for an update to the S1H now really!
have looked at the s9 but seems a bit more for video enthusiasts. not sure about the material used? aluminium? plastic? had the Fujifilm x100vi when it launched but returned it as felt cheap? the richo gr3 x hdf is on my list though. I've heard this is excellent for photography
Lumix just has disappointed its lovers, which expected something different. And besides that, like you mentioned, the S9 concept seems weird without proper lenses … and a headphone jack … and …
The camera isn't really for lumix lovers, who normally just want a camera that they already have, but better, faster, smaller, bigger. Its designed for new buyers who don't really care about the brand, but want something that takes excellent quality photos and video while also being fun. Theres a massive group of people who don't discuss camera specs with each other online, that would have used to buy a Canon Rebel with kit lens and use the onboard flash. Also anybody that ever bought a camcorder because it had a 20x digital zoom. This group I think is largely satisfied with smartphones, but the step above that would be something like this.
Imo, we need to be patient and not get too disappointed over things like this when the company at the end of the day is trying raise profits like any other company on this planet
You nailed it, why wouldn’t you just get the s5ii? I think everyone can agree s5ii is better right? You get mechanical shutter, evf, headphone jack, dual sd card slots, full size hdmi, no record limits, hot shoe…but no, get the one that is 200 less and give up all of that? To me, it’s kinda like buying a new laptop with 8gb of RAM, sure you can do that…is that in any way a good idea? You wanna commit right now that you are never gonna record more than 10-15 minutes, not one church service, or basketball game…ok Like you said, it makes no sense that I can get the S5II for the same price used. That is why its more confusing, its nothing wrong with this camera really, its just that there is a much much better one at only a few hundred more, and doesn’t have all the compromises and limitations.
I wouldn't call the S9 a flexible camera. Flexibility is having a hot shoe. The S9 is specifically targeted to social media creators with disposable income. Panasonic know this and know the positive implications to this. You can also see with all the early adaptor/testers that main bullet points are "easy, fun and full frame". Wait for the next release, I'm pretty sure it will be an un-crippled version of the S9.
Even with its shortcomings, it's going to be an excellent camera. Great for those weekend trips or vacations where you do not want to carry around a pro body.
Bro, thank you for making this video. Likewise as an owner of Multiple S5 II, who shoots multiple brands…. I couldn’t agree more. Honestly it’s pretty evident, this hate wasn’t ready about the S9, this was hate directed towards LUMIX by people who were dying for the opening to go after LUMIX. This was all unnecessary.
But the other cameras have a hot flash and a mechanical shutter.....I pick the. Sony line up over the Panasonic any day..My current choice ...A .pair of used (A7c mark 1)...Now if Panasonic would get busy with. the M43 upgrade to the GX9 I would be very happy. cheers
Ive used a flash maybe twice in my entire career… and the mechanical shutter I really don’t see that messing up too many people’s pictures and is useless for video. BUT, if those are genuine concerns of your, then this camera is for sure not for you! Let’s just make sure it’s a concern for you and not just regurgitated from everyone else’s negative reviews
@AnthonyRodriguezz no but I've seen the reviews did great in day with great details and also extremely little to no lens flare which is rare for a pancake lens
Its more criticism than it is complaining.Criticizing something, you're saying , "heres whats wrong with it", but when you complain you're saying, "I'm not happy about this. Saying, "this camera isn't for you" is a poor excuse of a camera that obviously has many problems. Im not faulting anyone for this, but there is a difference.
I think you might be confusing something here… people are complaining about things that are literally non-issues for 95% of the people and the fact of the matter is that this camera is just flat out not for them if they are that 5% and then 90% of that 5% is just sad that this camera didn’t mean their expectations
That’s $700 more and not even close to the same video features. It is a much more capable camera overall when it comes to a professional workhorse but we’re comparing Apple to oranges at this point
As an owner of the S5II I know the S9 is going to be so fun to use.

But honestly… nobody should be buying this camera as an A cam for any kind of professional work
@@AnthonyRodriguezz for the price they could of gave us unlimited recording . It’s definitely a B cam or A cam for noobs
- Record limits (FHD : 20min in 2024 !!
- No mechanical shutter (when an already problematic rolling shutter, YOU MAKE IT WORSE)
- No evf
- MICRO HDMI in the RIGHT SIDE (even if you wanted to try an external monitor, you simply CAN'T )
- You need to buy additional grip (the design and functionality of the camera is garbage),
I refuse to describe any more.
ALL THIS ONLY 300 bucks less than the s5ii!!!
Congratulations to Panasonic.
And the biggest congratulations for the innovative 26mm "lens".
Everyone who loves Panasonic, this is definitely what we've been waiting for...
While I do agree with the price point, this camera is simply not for you brothah.
That’s what it boils down to
The problem is the price is soo near to the s5ii
I mean If they can get rid or at least extend the time limit to 30min like Canon of old I think it would be reasonable
The 10min record limits just weird
@@Abdi_Mohamed_ I agree!
It’s a 15 minute record limit in 4k 24 btw
the same thing with the g100, beautiful camera that recieved a lot of hate for nothing
I don’t think it’s useful as an A cam but if you know what you need it for, it’s a GREAT complimentary camera
That app is something else 🤯
no thanks, im very happy with my x100v
It’s a solid camera for sure!
Thanks for the accurate math!
Yeah that lens is silly… the sensor is lovely though 🤤
the camera is not bad but its not good enough for the price. only electronic shutter for such a slow sensor is a big miss, other issues I see - almost no customisation for the buttons and the recording limits are crazy restrictive. having fullframe and great IBIS in such a small body is amazing tho. Seems fun to use but has its issues
For sure the price is the hang up.
This camera isn’t meant to be a professional beast. More like a grab and go camera that has one of the best images for any mirrorless on the market
Going to sell my Ricoh GRiiX and pick up the s9 with the sigma 45mm 2.8, sure its not going to be as pocketable, but thats fine with me.
You also won’t miss focus as much!
These were my thoughts exactly. I also have the Ricoh GRiiix and this (at a lower price point) would have turned my head. I am happy with the Ricoh for now. Ta for the video.
Thanks brother!
Love my Ricoh
I think it's quite cool, but too expensive and they should have put a shutter in it. That's it really 😂 But yes the drama clickmill has been in overdrive for some reason.
I can’t stand the drama…
@@AnthonyRodriguezz I think it sadly gets a lot of views and so on... but yeah, it's a cool camera and lots of people will love it. Just waiting for an update to the S1H now really!
I'd love to know how you process your DNG files from your Ricoh. I also own Lumix but shoot Ricoh GR for any quick, street, and bts things I need.
have looked at the s9 but seems a bit more for video enthusiasts. not sure about the material used? aluminium? plastic? had the Fujifilm x100vi when it launched but returned it as felt cheap? the richo gr3 x hdf is on my list though. I've heard this is excellent for photography
Love the Ricoh!
It feels cheaper than all the ones mentioned but it’s lighter and smaller than all of them
Finally someone has the correct take on this camera 👏👏
Mah man 🫡
Lumix just has disappointed its lovers, which expected something different.
You wanna commit right now that you are never gonna record more than 10-15 minutes, not one church service, or basketball game…ok
Like you said, it makes no sense that I can get the S5II for the same price used. That is why its more confusing, its nothing wrong with this camera really, its just that there is a much much better one at only a few hundred more, and doesn’t have all the compromises and limitations.
After actually owning it…. This thing is so enjoyable! Definitely should be price lower though
Well the Sony zve1 it's primary competition is much more at 1999
Looking forward to some future autofocus ff2.8 pancake lenses and then I'm in! I want to leverage the awesome PDAF.
Right?!
Mate, it's not just f8 it's also manual lol
Even worse 😂
Lack of ability to use flash is a deal breaker
Would this be your only camera?
Will the Lut Lab work with the S5II?
Not sure tbh!
That’d be nice
That's coming, soon ! Panasonic even said it. S9, S5ii/X, GH7, G9MK2 (or whatever G9 is on.) The new/newer Lumix cameras get the Lumix Lab, soon !
hello sir..first of all love from india.your content is so amazing.. second please make a video on fuji xh2s ..
That’s your viewpoint of flexible though 😉
I’ve never used a flash. But again, that’s MY viewpoint.
@@AnthonyRodriguezz I leaning more towards an EVF to attach and not a flash
Lets wait for real long term reviews. Yes sell the X100v so i can get one😅
Unless it’s a different sensor than the s5ii… it’s basically the same thing.
What could go wrong?
@@AnthonyRodriguezz i dont know, i havent used one. Maybe lack of small good lenses, not this f8 crap😅
Been using an S5ii for over a year now and it’s my favorite camera!
That f8 lens is pretty silly ngl…
Small camera doesn't make those lenses small or portable... Lumix have to fix that now
That’s for suuuurrreee we need small lenses
this camera is almost perfect. some braiwashed minds re not! Perfect video of yours dude
Thanks brother I really appreciate it
I was waiting on this from you lol
My guy 🫡
Waiting for the S9 Pro
A matchbox with a lens mount on the middle!
🤣
Even with its shortcomings, it's going to be an excellent camera. Great for those weekend trips or vacations where you do not want to carry around a pro body.
I couldn’t agree more
its a $1200 camera without the EVF and mechanical shutter. Gonna wait till its nice and cheap on the used market. guarantee it wont hold value
Try a get a gx9 now, crazy prices
Interesting outlook 🤔
This guy might be on to something!
Thanks for taking the time to comment bro!
It’s all a bunch of bologna 😂
I think you are wrong. I, among many other people, wanted and expected the S9 to be much better. It would be my first Lumix.
I’d buy one as-is if it were closer to $999.
I think we all would!
Great video
Thanks brother!
What a strange video. Others shouldn't complain (ie express their negative opinions about the S9) but I'll whinge the house down about them.
You ever have a kid complain that they are hungry when there’s food right in front of them that they don’t like and it’s incredibly irritating?
Great video mate
Thanks brother
Waiting to see s1m2.
Same
Nice hands
Bahahaha
I heard they're soft
Cocoa butter bro… cocoa butter
Nah I love the 26mm f8 great for day photography
You’ve used it?
@@AnthonyRodriguezz let the sales do all the talking
I don’t think sales are a determining factor for the hype hate
👀 It's selling better than any Lumix camera since the GH5 @@weiyang6417
Without EVF a better smartphone
Huh?
Stop complaining and buy a Sony A7Cii instead.
That’s $700 more and not even close to the same video features.
It is a much more capable camera overall when it comes to a professional workhorse but we’re comparing Apple to oranges at this point
If anyone asks, I brainwashed Anthony to want it
Made this video right after our lumix indoctrination session 😳💀
@@AnthonyRodriguezz by the Father and the holy LUMIX Lord🛐
Bahahaha!! 🤣
GU this camera is not for you 😀
Not understanding this comment brother!
I am saying Gerald this camera is not for him I mean it was meant a joke hehe
