I remember this spot well; it played in place of "regular" commercials on AFN-TV over in Germany. I was in Munich when this came out. AFN also played the other one with the chess game, which was pretty stirring. This was a blast from the past. Thanks for uploading!
This aired my senior year of high school. I never joined the service but always admired those who did so. Great commercial very inspirational, I remember it very well. Thanks for sharing this!
Lol im sure all those soldiers with PTSD who were tricked into believe that killing foreigners in 3rd world countries was some kind of glorious job really loved this commercial too
@@cheffboyaryeezy2496 The Marines are not soldiers. We are Marines. None of us were tricked into anything. I enlisted in the USMC when I was 17 to help others. I am a 3rd generation Marine. My oldest son is the 4th generation. Before that, we were US Army. Our family emigrated from Germany in 1804 and have fought for the USA since The War of 1812. It is a matter of honor, respect, grace, loyalty, and dignity. 1989-2009, USMC, MGySgt, retired 2009-present, Sheriff’s Department, Lieutenant.
I knew him as Captain Keane( sic?)USMC recon reserve commander, attached to Elmendorf AFB, my duty station 1985-1988. I was a USAF medic in the barracks next door to his detachment. Had the honor of being selected as a ground medic for a jump they had in Farewell, AK. One hell of an officer and all under his command were top notch NCO’s . Top Sgt. Roughton (spelling may be off) was harder than a coffin nail. Great guy too. I’ll never forget him either.
It is interesting how times have changed, back in the 80's the Officer was seen as the leader, the last major war was Vietnam, and the Officers still had to go out into the battlefield. Today, small teams are leading the fight, the new war requires it, and the commercials display the NCO's.
lieutenants and captains were still regularly in the line of fire in Afghanistan and Iraq. A look at casualties numbers will tell you that company grade officers are still leading the fight at the front

Remember that just as we are out there protecting freedom, so are other warriors back home, helping the downtrodden in other ways. I am so proud to have served my people in Afganistan and Kuwait with 101st Airborne out of FTCKY. I applaud the Marine Core for its victory in Tarin Kawt and other places where I was deployed as ATC support. Your dedication cleared the way for my company and you are saviours of lives you will never know. My brothers are all in the Marine Core but I chose aviation in the army. Anyway, remember that your duty as a trained fighter, and your training in mental proficiency, does not end or cease to matter when you separate. We veterans will always have a subconscious duty, that if we do not adhere to, we will suffer. That dury is to serve and protect the PEOPLE of the United States. Even after you separate you can still help. Use your GI Bill. Study humanities. Know what caused everything to be this way, and why you were sent as a sacrifice to the gods of war.
You are totally full of shit, just an army girly boy. If you had any level of education beyond the third grade you would not have wasted your time in that great jobs program called the army. By the way, it spelled CORPS.
Interesting. The old commercials highlight officers, the newer ones feature enlisted and NCOs. I'm just curious, does anyone know why the change? (No criticisms intended, it's just something I noted.)
ProdigalSon2149 When I joined in 91 my recruiter asked the same Question. Why do all the commercials only show officers? Maybe asking that question back then is the reason why.?
Now THAT was a damn good recruiting video. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a nice pride flag commercial, with chemically castrated "men" fluttering around. That's what's important, not being a government sanctioned enemy killing machine.
Should of rolled into battle with a sword Brad, that would of fucking rocked!
***** lmao i was just waatching that and looked this up
Brandon Michaels best movie ever
I still remember the serial number of my magic lightning sword
You didn’t get to keep it?
I lost mine down the gullet of a red dragon, still keeps me up at night.
ZAP247
"Hey Brad, remember that one where the guys fucks up the dragon with the sword and turns into a marine?
That shit got a bunch of guys
I LOVE YOU, FRUITY RUDY!
Unironically an incredible way of selling the Marines. Knights in shining armor with honor and discipline.
Who came here because of Generation Kill?
i am lol
Where's the dragon?
That was the rite of passage commercial
hell yeah
bro where is the fucking dragon
"Should've rolled into battle with a sword, Brad. That would've fuckin' rocked."

I'm pretty sure the kick ass lightning sword is standard issue in the Corps now.

yeah, invading countries and shooting people that have a daily income of less than a dollar must be very inspirational

Brad saw this.
I can't believe this was a real ad. This would have got ripped to shreds in the UK lol
Rightfully so.
Because you are an effeminate p*ssy.
Decades later still one of the best recruitment campaigns ever. God Bless the USMC and all the other proud branches of service.
This is exactly what boot camp is like
This is one of greatest commercials of all time for literally anything. I classify it as a lifestyle ad. Semper Fi!

Dude, I had no idea TSR produced a commercial for the Marine Corps.

Can you elaborate please?
lieutenants and captains were still regularly in the line of fire in Afghanistan and Iraq. A look at casualties numbers will tell you that company grade officers are still leading the fight at the front
What, no dragon slaying?
seeing that Marine made the dragon run in fear
Chess was my favorite. Served 82-93.
Instead of a sword, he should be wielding a crayon
Fantastic video! Thanks!
Here from Neebs Gaming when Doraleous brought this up.
Hey me too!
Lol
the music really makes me chuckle
I knew King Henry was a Marine all along.
Lol! I bet this got so many nerds!XD I'm signin up in the next month when I'm 18
Watch Generation Kill wit for this reference.
Update?
So this is what convinced Brad Colbert to get into the marines.

Oh, the '80s...

Lt Kean BLT 3/3 back in 82'
Holy crap, and I thought AFN commercials were bad
WE DON'T GET ON OUR KNEES FOR ANYONE, AND YES I'M YELLING.

You are far more likely to get handed a broomstick.
the electricity was a lil too much though :p
The uniform is not given it is earned.
So if I join the marines I get a fucking sword and a coat of armor?
2 Knight rejects did not get their swords
that may be a cerimonial blade but that shit is still dangerous
ever see King Ralph where he cuts/hits the guy's ears with the sword while dubbing him?
90s?
80s
I would probably join if instead of a knight was a jedi or some spartan from halo
So... we should restore the monarchy?
Jump wings & scuba bubble :)
Idk how the fuck anyone doesnt see how fucked this is. There hasnt been a single noble war since WW2.
or couldn't make the cut! haha
The commercial is so boring it makes you not want to join lol
More like two rejects who dont have 'swords'
Served, and the commercial is shitty.
LOL, what the fuck

This would be better for the British Royal Marines we dont have knights and shit in U.S. military history.
