    Those freak out fills are killing me. It was already insane back in the days but you nail it so easily in this vidéo...it's not even fair.

    I loved this years ago. If I remember correctly it was the first video on your channel where you used the MS4 magnums? So glad Max decided to re-record it!

    • @TravisOrbin
      @TravisOrbin  9 лет назад +1

      +James Lyon Dang, had to look that up haha. It appears you're correct! You know your Orbin history better than I, lulz. However, I think the SIKES session is the first that I tracked with the ol' Mags. Cheers, brohammer.

    • @TehJaytius
      @TehJaytius 9 лет назад +1

      +Travis Orbin Haha I only remember because they were such a change from the Mangini sigs, your drum tone was suddenly so explosive and thunderous. So I ordered like 5 pairs of MS4s to try and emulate it :)

    it may sound wierd but i have no idea what is happening for probably one half of the song :D

    • @TravisOrbin
      @TravisOrbin  9 лет назад +2

      +Jan Malec That may actually be a plus, as this piece has a sort of free-flowing jazz/fusion vibe.

      +Travis Orbin but it is awesome as hell! as always ;)

    Hey man!!! Crazy good performance. As always. Love how great the mixes are on these drum covers. So many players have either heavily over-processed or resampled drums. Yours do have the slick punchy modern sound, but with the realism and the intricacy of your stellar playing able to shine through in context as well. Huge fan of 20in kicks myself for the tight punchy sound. And after perusing through your outboard gear breakdown on the site pretty impressed at the gear behind what you do. As always thanks Travis! And your cymbals sound fantastic as well. Pretty much all the pieces sound outstanding.

    • @TravisOrbin
      @TravisOrbin  9 лет назад +1

      +Justus Gash Thankya kindly! To clear up any potential confusion, these are the actual takes that are going to comprise the record - not covers. I've got some new analog gear on the way so the quality is only improving, w00t!

    • @FuzzImp
      @FuzzImp 9 лет назад

      +Travis Orbin yeah cover was not my best word choice. I meant the quality of your performance and drum mix compared to a lot of the other drum based RUclips videos I watch. Been a big fan since the Truth drums era. Nice on the gear! Your feel and precision is my goal. Let alone production value.

  • @Uaarkson

    YES. HOW IS THIS BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL. I DON'T KNOW BUT I GUESS I DON'T CARE - DAT FRAMERATE AND TONE

  • @svea234
    @svea234 9 лет назад +1

    Travis! great cover! :D I've just got a question for you, how do you tune your toms? Cheers mate!

    • @TravisOrbin
      @TravisOrbin  9 лет назад

      +svea234 Thank you. FYI, this is the actual tracking that will comprise the album - not a cover. The tom-toms depend on the song, but generally I like to keep the top and bottom heads close, tension-wise, to maximize resonance and minimize pitch bend. Then, I'll control said resonance with Moon Gel.

  • @Sodigerati
    @Sodigerati 9 лет назад

    Your snare mix is always so damn clean! By the way do you break cymbals very often due to using thick sticks?

    • @TravisOrbin
      @TravisOrbin  9 лет назад +1

      +blrsycth Not often at all, only really when I'm on tour; I usually go through my crashes and maybe my china and/or a top hi-hat cymbal within a month to month-and-a-half long tour.

    • @Sodigerati
      @Sodigerati 9 лет назад

      Never break a ride cymbal? Haha that's a bit reassuring though because I'm working up to heavy sticks.

    • @TehJaytius
      @TehJaytius 9 лет назад

      +Travis Orbin Now you're with Zildjian are you still practicing on budget cymbals, or do you have a dedicated practice set?

    • @TravisOrbin
      @TravisOrbin  9 лет назад +1

      +James Lyon Still on budget, baby! If it ain't broke... Though now I do play budget Zs haha.

    Stupid question, but where can I purchase the album? The Bandcamp link doesn't have any samples or purchase info despite the release date being listed as 11/19.

    are you still in love with the demon drives? trying to figure out a good big boy double pedal to get but i'm not sure if the demon drives are mostly about gimmicks I might never use

    • @TravisOrbin
      @TravisOrbin  9 лет назад

      +joecool1890 Yep, DDs rule.

    • @crimsun7186
      @crimsun7186 9 лет назад

      +SuburbanDisposal Well, at thins point in time, the Demon Drives are the only pedals that can go from single to double, lefty to righty to central (with another single pedal and an extra shaft. You can also do this type of conversion with the Demonator Pedals), since most of the parts are modular and symmetrical enough to be flipped around and screwed to the base plate instead of the usual bonding other manufacturers use. So, this would be more of a hidden feature of the Demon Drive and Demonator pedals.

    • @nonholographic
      @nonholographic 9 лет назад

      Crimson Sunrise funny you say this as mine came in the mail a few days ago, haha. havent played it on the kit yet but I did convert them to longboards. A little bit of rattling coming from the boards and hinges though has me annoyed/worried about their structural integrity

    • @crimsun7186
      @crimsun7186 9 лет назад

      SuburbanDisposal Well, it's the only pedal that can do what I said in the market. You can sort of do the same thing with Speed Cobras, but you need extra hardware for certain things. It seems that users are content with paying more for less, since you can't do these conversions with other pedal brands.

    I'm sorry but i don't understand if you are an official member of the band or "just" a session drummer for them.

      +PROSPER DRUMS Travis is the drummer on every tracks of the upcoming album :) but i'm a drummer ha' and maybe if live becomes concrete i will play drums for this ...

    • @CartoonTheory
      @CartoonTheory 9 лет назад

      +PROSPER DRUMS I'm so happy to work with Travis since many time...

    • @TravisOrbin
      @TravisOrbin  9 лет назад +1

      +PROSPER DRUMS I'm the session drummer; I worked with Max to write these parts and recorded them in my home studio for later commercial release. If it was a side project, I would've omitted the word "session" from the title (i.e. ItsTeeth). Cheers!

    How much practicing did it take to become an ambidextrous drummer?

    • @TravisOrbin
      @TravisOrbin  9 лет назад

      +Hyper Quantum Several years.

    • @spaceboy7413
      @spaceboy7413 9 лет назад

      I am working on developing ambidextrous drumming. I am making decent progress, but what would you recommend I do to enhance independence for dominating my weaker side?

    • @TravisOrbin
      @TravisOrbin  9 лет назад

      +Hyper Quantum Improvise with your strong side until you stumble upon something you dig, then recreate it with your weak side. Bear in mind all of the seemingly minute aspects like your stick height, the tone you're getting out of the drums, how your body is positioned, etc. Take note of it all as you're attempting to recreate that very same sound. Repeat this process ad nauseam.

    • @spaceboy7413
      @spaceboy7413 9 лет назад

      Thanks. Like I see so many ambidextrous drummers still cling to one side. Then you seem incredibly fluent with both. I really hope to achieve what you have.

    • @spaceboy7413
      @spaceboy7413 9 лет назад

      By the way, thanks for the advice. I have found myself being able to perfectly replicate rhythms and improve my weaker side's muscle memory. I'm starting to pick it up really quickly.
