Shrek 2 (2004) - "Holding Out for a Hero" scene [1080p]

- The Shrek franchise has many great songs, and many moments of wonderful original score. But the overall highlight remains this perfect blending of the two - a punchy rendition of the classic Bonnie Tyler track, sung by Jennifer Saunders, and intertwined with orchestral score as Shrek and his team storm the castle. It's one of those rare movie moments of pure musical joy.
Starring Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, Julie Andrews, Antonio Banderas, John Cleese, Rupert Everett and Jennifer Saunders. Original score by Harry Gregson-Williams. 'Holding Out for a Hero' originally sung by Bonnie Tyler (from the film 'Footloose'), and here sung by Jennifer Saunders, in her role as the Fairy Godmother.
I only watch this version because it's not in kids mode and I can comment lol
Lol same
Thank you! 😂😂😂
Me too in 4025
Kids today will never know how awesome this was seeing for the first time in theaters back in 2004
Knowing that was 20 years ago is depressing.
They will now! My local theatre is doing 20th anniversary showings!
I saw it in theaters a few days ago and it was absolutely incredible
I’m a kid today and it’s hard to say I watched it for it’s anniversary in theaters
True masterpeice
before the “avengers: end game” scene we had this one 🫡
It's now been 20 years, and this is still the most amazing scene in the history of animated movies.
Avengers Endgame came close to this masterpiece ending, but still don't stand a chance at how romantic it was
@@victorparkinson3316 animated
Maybe 3D animation. The Disney Renaissance films have much more amazing and iconic scenes.

Normally sequels arent as great but shrek 2 is an absolute classic just like the first shrek.
The majority of people agree that Shrek 2 is the best of the series, and is superior to the original in every aspect.
100%
@@its_Hazerbut we need the original to better appreciate 2
@@JamalWarrenJamalPercyWarren yes but it doesn't mean the sequel can't be better than the original, there are sequels that outdo their predecesors
Mungo was the true hero, "More heat! Less foam!" 😂
The best sequence in cinematic history
Definitely, when I came back to Shrek after many years, I was literally in shock at how brilliant this series is, I burst into tears
@@maciejflisak5249 *Are You Sure About Shrek 3 Being Good?*
"More heat less foam" 🗣️🔥🔥
Puss getting time for Shrek is absolute badass and cinema
"All right big fella, lets crash this party"
My fav scene in animatied movie history.
no one has slayed harder than the fairy godmother ever, no one. she is the moment. ICON. PURIOD. may she ✨slay in peace✨
*Slays in C minor
Shrek 2 is a great example of a sequel that was even better than the first (and the first Shrek waa great,).
Ok I hate the guy but Charming flipping the rose in his mouth is maximum rizz. Like, his DEX stat is just about maxed.
And yet, Shrek is far more attractive than Charming could ever hope to be.
@@MegaManXPoweredUpGross you are attracted to an ogre. Weird fetish bro
@@MegaManXPoweredUpSTR chads always beat DEX
@@MegaManXPoweredUpwell yeah shrek doesn’t have an Sti for a start
Now that's what I call storming the castle! Donkey managing to clear a line of armed guards as easily as leaping a fence was particularly impressive!
The part with puss allways gets me,
"Today I'll repay my debts"
So intense and it gets even better after seeing puss in boots 1 and 2 to realize what his debts are
Actually just 1 because the 2nd film is latter in the chronology
I stopped at Shrek 2, not really a movie person but now I'm curious as to what his debts are. Need to watch them now.
The Mario movie was great, but no movie will ever use this song as well as Shrek 2.
Bullet Train is a solid second best, though
@NFrk97 I forgot all about that, that movie was such a nonstop adrenaline ride it kind of blended in. Japanese version was a nice touch though.
Shrek 2 will always be my favorite.
I don't know why, but fairy godmother telling the piano player to play in C-minor has always been so funny to me
this is the definition of cinema GOLD, just gold.
3:29 Shrek is so badass in this one scene
Boys: cried when Tony Stark died

Best fucking scene in animation history it gives you goosebumps 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Happy 20 years everyone!
Damn
This is what cinamatic perfection looks like 😩😩
Happy 20 years!
They did not need to go this hard for this action sequence, but I'm so thankful they did because it's the most epic moment in the franchise.
Every time I listen to this song (ie a lot), I laugh at the brilliant irony of the fairy godmother choosing this specific song to sing to Charming and Fiona!
Literally the last lines she sings are: "He's gotta be strong, and he's gotta be fast. And he's gotta be fresh from the fight. I need a hero!"
And Fiona's hero turns up right on cue... 😂
Sheer brilliance, and no doubt why they picked it - no other song could possibly fit this moment so perfectly and what an incredible performance by Jennifer Saunders too! 😍
Who shrek series is a w
The fact that the knights guarding the castle were crazy prepared enough to take on Mongo with a giant cup of foam implies that the Muffin Man has tried to lay siege on Far Far Away before.
Happy 20th Anniversary!!
The "Hit it" reminds me of the "Give me one with a beat" from yakuza 0
Absolute cinema!
This scene is unironically epic af
Puss in boot last stand always hypes me up
The big Gingerbread Man reminds of the big Saints Flow can in Saints Row 4
This songs in saints row 3 aswell
@@theboys27901 Well thats the original one but still epic when you try to save your homies in the game. To make it more epic I always just run to the site instead of the car XD
Trivia Fact: They actually used that version of the song when some TV Channel in my country made a promo for the film when they were going to show it one Saturday evening after the news.
NOSTALGIA
I really like the thumping bass in this version, it matches the fast pace action in the scene. Fairy Godmother is on beat too @2:43. 😂🔥🔥
"Buckle up, Millie. We're doing a Shrek." - Blitzø Buckzo
is that an actual line in an episode
i will be forever mad my local amc didn't get this for the 20th anniversary. they said not enough people would come see it. yeah bullshit. we turned out for all the local releases and they admitted they were wrong. yet they gave us south park sing along. which was fun but like, make up for that tragedy. they added more lotr shows for like 4 weeks. which i got to go to thankfully but man, i wanted to see this scene again like i did as a kid. i wanted to take my family to see it.
First let me applaud you I'm going around the Disney loom loom thank you thank you so much🎉
Go go your lady needs you go

Charming blinks & smiles as he beckons Fiona to come dance, & she slowly takes his hand. Donkey: “Haha! All right!” Fairy: “Someone reaching back for me.” Donkey calls: “Shrek!” “Out where the lightning splits the sea.” I love the way the music changes as Shrek uses the chain to knock down the knights. He whistles & calls “Come on.” He flips onto Donkey’s back. Puss stays behind to face the knights: “Go. Go. Your lady needs you. Go.” Shrek smiles & rides on to Fiona’s rescue. Puss changes: Cute & harmless to fierce & dangerous. I love Fairy Godmother’s: “He’s gotta be strong and he’s gotta be fast.”
I watched this with my soul mate
I still find it funny how Charming's pretty good looking (obviously) but when face-to-face with Shrek (in human form), he pales in comparison. So much so, that his natural blonde hair is the only thing carrying him. 🤣
Yknow you gotta give credits to the knights as well, who were all just doing their job and didnt realize they were being manipulated by the godmother to attack the princesses husband. The fact that they had a perfect counter for Mongo ready and deployed it in the span of a few minutes, and that they actually take Mongo down tells a lot about their competence especially compared to Farquaads knights in the first movie who get clowned on at every turn and who pack up and run the second the Dragon shows up. Far Far Aways army gets some credit in my book for being at least competent, its just a shame that their competence is always manipulated to be used by the villains
2:13 Go Mongo, go

Okay I'm pretty sure King Harold and Shrek were the only ones who knew that Prince Charming was just pretending to be Shrek just so he can get Fiona cuz we learn in the third movie that he was actually supposed to rescue her but Shrek got there first if anything I feel like the third movie is more of a prequel to the first film than anything else because it shows that Prince Charming was originally the one who was supposed to save Fiona
It's been ages since I saw Shrek 3 but I rewatched Shrek 2 recently and it was definitely explained in this movie that Prince Charming was intended to rescue Fiona but Shrek got there first
The fairy looks like Divine the singer.

This song should be all women's theme song. There's no good man out there now. All women have to pray for their prince charming or they will end up in a loop of bad relationships.
Lol
No. Bad women create bad men. You want to know why "good men" are gone? It's because they get cheated on and cast aside. The women who create the Frankensteins need only look in the mirror. "Heros" don't get appreciated, just hurt. Then they dissappear.
