Excellent information in this video! I will be applying a liquid corn gluten meal product to my lawn. Is there an optimum time of day to take soil temperature? (It's still at 82 degrees on 9/22 at 11am.) Also, when you say ambient temp of 60-65, is that the high temp for the day? I will primarily rely on my soil temp reading.

If I drop pre-emergent earlier than mid to late February will that still work? I feel like dropping it just at the right time is to extend the life of the product on our yards?

It will depend on timing AND soil temperature. If you apply it too early it may lose effectiveness.
