      Always thankful that I bought good gear. I had a few hematomas after a scary crash, but I looked at my gear and it saved my head, hands, shoulder, arm, leg, and foot. If I didn't have gear, I don't know if I'd have much of a face or those other parts I mentioned. You can always buy new gear, but you can't buy another head.

      Well designed motorcycle attire INCREASES the pleasure of RIDING a motorcycle as it not only makes one feel more protected adding pleasure to any ride but also protects one from the elements.and even provides additional comfort one would not otherwise have....like gloves and boots besides offering some crash protection ALSO provide comfort against the friction of levers and grips.....Some quality great fitting gear can really enhance RIDING even if you never suffer a crash! A visor protecting against glare a helmet lowering wind and road noise and keeping your ears nose neck head toasty warm on a cold day are SO wonderful compared to being bare headed! Similar to all the other gear!...plus if it is really nice gear? It just makes you feel GOOD being seen riding in it! Makes one look stylishly SMART if you ask me....Whenever I see someone riding in shorts and flip flops etc? I just think newbie clueless "MORON" Just saying

      @@nigelwolfe6150 Exactly. I love my gear. I've ridden without it a handful of times (Never without a helmet though) on short little trips and I got to say, for me, it is kind of miserable. Rocks jump up and pelt you. You feel the bugs splat on you. My hands were constantly getting hit with stuff it felt like. The wind does feel nice on your bare skin... in-between the stingy sensations of what ever just hit me. Maybe it is just cus I live near a city and the roads are filthy, but out on the highway or any busy road I am constantly being pelted with things, haha. The protection of your face from the elements is a huge plus. Rocks, bugs, wind, noise, rain, sun, trash someone threw out a window? Full faced helmets has got you covered. Literally. Open your visor on the highway and you immediately appreciate all it does for your safety and comfort. I understand that some people just like wearing the bare minimum (or nothing) for stylistic reasons but dam I feel like I look good, dare i say cool, in my gear and love hoping on with a jacket, helmet, and gloves that all match my bike. At the end of the day it's the riders choice and to each their own, but personally i feel like wearing my gear makes riding safer and more enjoyable. My gear has also saved me from serious injury before and really hope those on the fence choose to pony up the cash and get some. Worth every penny if you get formally introduced to the pavement.

  • @tommy605

    For the gloves, you want something with sliders (hard plastic/metal) on the heel of the palm. Additional leather or d30 or something will help with the abrasion and impact absorption, but it'll catch on the asphalt, twist your hand and you'll break your scaphoid. It's better to slide when your hands go down. Anything catching will cause breaks and probably rolling.
    As a rider, we have to decide what protection we're going to invest in. Can get decent protective gear at low cost, and the HJC is a prime example of that. There is gear out there that's affordable and protective.

    • @tommy605
      @tommy605 5 лет назад +1

      @33svk33 I picked up a pair of Held gloves that are way more comfortable than I thought. The only problem I have are the external palm sliders have worn the finish off of my bar ends. Oh well. I'm waiting for Knox Handroids to arrive but to be honest, even though they have the protection I was looking for, I just ordered them because they're unique here.

    Of all the places to save money, safety is the most stupid one. Buy cheap noodles for dinner but please buy proper motorcycle gear. All it takes is one crash and you could be paralyzed or brain damaged for the rest of your life. That sucks for you but also your loved ones.

    I went down the other day but I'm counting my blessings though bc all i got was some stitches and a bruised ego. Well some other bruises too but the ego one hurt pretty bad. The EMTs on the side of the road assumed I was in pretty bad shape after hitting a guardrail on an exit. It was a blind turn. I didn't have line of sight, accelerated to pass a vehicle and found myself pointing at a guardrail. no beuno. I wish i had a gopro cus Dan you would have some things to say about my stupidity haha. I'm sure there were a thousand things i could have done to prevent it. anyways i was rushed to the ER and they were extremely surprised when all the x-rays and scans came back negative. The one nurse in the ER looked at me and said "you are extremely lucky. Were you wearing gear?" I said yeah and pointed over to the pile of gear in the corner and her eyes just went wide. she again said i was very lucky finished doing w.e it was she was doing and left. I had a chance to look at my gear when i got home and I realized why her eyes went wide. Gouges, scrapes, and slide marks all over. My jacket was a mangled mess and covering in blood. My left glove had so much blood soaked into it, it became stiff. I can't imagine what would have happened to me had I not been wearing it. Every scrape and tear would have been my skin. My left arm would have been torn to ribbons had I not been wearing the jacket. CE armor saved my joints big time. My left elbow and shoulder were badly swollen and bruised but not broken. The research and tech that goes into these jackets works and is not a gimmick. You can be as safe as you want and ride as best you can but things can go wrong very quickly at highway speeds. One slip in judgement, one moment of white stage, and I found myself in a world of hurt. Wear the best gear you can afford and check closeout and sale prices across the net. NOT just the big retailers we all know. Little stores across the country slash prices on old stock quite frequently. I always pick up old stock gear with great protection at a hefty discount. It's worth every penny in my book and is why I get to ride another day.

    I get the whole full face thing , however Arai has the new X Ram 3/4 helmet that is DOT/Snell rated that I am very interested in for the summer months, which are about 6 months long here in Florida. In an accident you best defense is to keep saying to yourself Tuck and Roll. Allowing your limbs to extend out can be a recipe for them to be broken. Every accident is different and things happen so very fast but just keep repeating T&R!!! It really does help!!

    I agree with this video. The question you should ask yourself is, is my life worth the equipment I'm buying? If you answer no, shell out and buy that expensive equipment. If you answer yes then you either have really good gear or you have shit gear and should stop riding. Your life is worth more than any equipment you can buy. However, denim jeans can vary. I wear Wrangler and it is a very heavy duty brand. I've low sided with Wranglers on and they have save me from some bad road rash. So, sturdy denim is fine as a bare minimum. Rule of thumb, if the jeans have holes, tears, or wears in them, you shouldn't wear them on your motorcycle. The integrity of those jeans are worn for fashion, they are not good for safety. That being said, I'm a military medic and teach the basic riders course for military in Socal. These are all things I've learned from my experience.

My only issue is that I would get a lot of bugs blow up into my helmet and I’d have them crawling around. So distracting to a point that I’d have to pull over to the side of the road and take my helmet off, knock it out and continue on. Usually though it was so distracting that I believe I was more at risk of actually crashing due to the distractions.

I'm very behind wearing helmets, boots, gloves and thick leather but the "armour" almost cost my wife her life...she was with me on my bike when asshole painted the road with us...she had compound fractured her humorous and severed a artery, almost bled out because first responders could not get her armoured jacket off, couldnt even cut it off the way the bone was...literally had to almost break her arm again to try and get the jacket off because the armour smashed into her arm and couldnt be cut or moved...thankfully we both made a full recovery and still building and riding my chopper with my wife but I'll NEVER buy another one of those bs jackets...be safe yall

    What brands sell motorcycle gear for tall guys? Carhartt has crazy heavy duty stitching and fabric, and their clothes actually fit because they have a tall line. Whereas slick motorcycle gear is cool and has the armor bits but... it just doesn't fit me because apparently no motorcycle rider has ever been taller than 6'2", let alone 6'6". Worse the prices are nuts.

    In winter or night time yeah I bust out that high vis full armor jacket but during the day it’s not safe for the long rides I have to do // should I wear the jacket take a risk of having heat stroke then crash or do I wear a leather Vest - Level 3A body amor and just have less armor if I do crash
