    Long time x2go user and freenx before that. You can make things work with dynamic resolution (changes based on window resizing). I run KDE Plasma btw. Also, there are some issues with regards to session clean up (but falling on deaf ears), but usually only a pain for folks like me where my remote host is Kerberos ticketed to a Windows domain (something rare, but very cool). And all this cool high performant (even multi-media capable) remote desktop performance with "x" in the names.. if you haven't guessed, all goes to (bleep) with Wayland. Wayland doesn't and arguably never, will support a shortcut making network display protocol for high performance remote desktop connectivity of variable latency connections. So, enjoy x2go while we have it. But one day, we will also say, "remember when we had x2go and how awesome it was?"

    Thank you for the video, very informative like always :)
    It would be very helpful if we could have some practical use case to see performances via x2go with video stream, coding session, video editing etc.

      I can't imagine what practical use there would be for this really. In particular when you need to add a client on to the machine to access it.

    good step by step setup thanks jay. Would be interested in similar video but with xrdp instead of x2go as then can access my desktop from any windows pc and any linux pc with remmina installed, very powerful setup then. even more powerful if, with xrdp, can integrate some kind of 2 factor authentication, thanks again

    Great video,
    though I'd love to see a demo of a real usage (browsing, maybe coding, maybe using VPN inside, maybe video playback, etc)

    Why would you not simply use XRDP?
    I did check all the available Remote Desktop options and ended with xrdp.
    It works perfectly, includes sound and uses less cpu than x2go.

    Do you have a tutorial planned for Debian 12 desktop in the cloud like your Ubuntu MATE one a few years back?
    I tried with Buster a while back and ran into issues connecting.
    Was met with a grey and white pixelated screen and a black X shaped cursor. I solved by installing IDK what?? 🤷‍♀
    I will be trying to do it this weekend.
    Jay, thank you for all the knowledge you've given to the community over the years. You are amazing!
    Much love to you 💚

    amazing as always. something I've been looking at for a long time and this looks like a wonderful solution. But the question is how does this stand against vnc as a remote desktop. in speed and functionality

    • @fplove
      @fplove Год назад

      It is basically the same and even the X2Go server is in the main archive, you don't need any external repo.

    • @Drugvigil

      @@fplove okay. If I am not wrong. When installing debain in my local system I don't necessarily need to install web server or ssh server.

    Is x2go better than VNC? I've done similar but, from memory, used tightvnc for server and generally realVNC viewer for client.

    • @fplove
      @fplove Год назад

      X2Go is a bit faster and embeds the ssh tunnel required to connect. But for that, note that its default configuration shall freeze any running process in the desktop, after disconnection of the client. If you need to connect/disconnect and having your processes running in the meantime, you need to tweak X2Go server configuration, or use VNC.

      @@truthmatters7573 Akamai announced price increases for some products back in March. For now, the increases aren't a big deal, but it's Akamai--do you think they're going to preserve the soul of Linode while keeping prices competitive?
