Protecting Canadian wolves where pigs are invading could have its place. And if wolves are being useful control agents, getting hunters to clinically remove those pigs wolves don't get. And if YT videos are any indication, they'd want to import some of the better Australian/NZ hunters (majority are ineffective there too) for an effective job. Being wounded in a shower of inaccurate lead doesn't cut it, and all the bravado and shouting and social media doesn't make them any good, or smart.

This is the whole issue. There is a balance. But if wolves are in the thousands, introducing a few dozen elk is just feeding the wolves. The problem is bleeding hearts LOVE wolves and cougars. But never see them other than Nat Geo. They don’t realize there is a balance and shoot down any ballot measure to keep predator numbers under control (we almost passed effectively banning Mountain Lion control in CO this year). Not legal … but would love to limit voting to people who somewhat understand this. Not just people in Boulder/Denver who think they look cool.
To protect livestock from wolves (instead of killing the wolves), get a Donkey or two. Donkeys are territorial and will run off a wolf or two. Of course a pack of wolves could take out the Donkey, but that is a less frequent event.

What’s interesting is that the less populated, livestock dependent counties where the wolves were reintroduced voted against this measure. But the majority of Colorado’s population is in Denver & along the front range so it’s like all the city people approved wolf reintroduction into areas where people depended upon raising livestock. I want to eat beef & bison that is from Colorado but I think wolves are more entitled to live in Colorado than myself or other white people who moved here in the past decade or century. Wolves & people can & need to form symbiotic lifestyles.
if wolves find no other prey they might raid livestock if said livestock aren't properly protected. however it's fairly unlikely that wolves and human hunters would be competing for prey all that much and especially with intelligent management. thus far wolves haven't been a significant threat to livestock in areas where they were reintroduced, accounting for fewer kills than dogs and far fewer than coyotes, and they don't really seem to have caused issues with hunters either.

Why would they leave their dog’s unattended if they have wolves in the area? Also, it’s better for the deer population because they hunt the old, weak, and sick where as trophy hunters usually hunt the best looking bucks and bulls. Deer and elk are starting to have deformities because the weak and sick are having better chances at reproducing. People need to learn how to live with nature. A healthy North American ecosystem has wild predators.

Wolves are very important as they are a keystone species. They keep prey animals from eating everything as well
