I did basically the same thing but made my own devided trays out of cardboard board boxes. One thing I did that was a huge time saver was write a short description of the ornament in the bottom of each little cubbie. And it makes it easier for the kids to help!!
I don't mind this idea for some decorations, but like you, I do enjoy wrapping and unwrapping my xmas decorations out of their boxes. I don't have those kind fancy boxes from the video because I always buy very cheap decorations, but I made mine from food packaging that I decorate myself.
Great idea! And if you have commemorative ornaments you want to remember you could cut the name off the packaging and slip it into the section with the ornament. Take all the labels out when you decorate the tree and when you put everything away sort those labels with the matching ornaments. When those ornaments are passed along your kids, grandkids, will know what’s significant. Jan❤
I have so many ornaments that are over 50 years old that lasted far longer than their boxes. So when the boxes no longer protect the ornament you do have to find a new packing solution and this one seems just right! Thank you for your wonderful solution. I have not found any pre- made boxes that offer so much storage and is hard sided.
I have had the exact same experience when searching for ornament storage and it is something that has bothered me for years. Your solution is so much better than anything currently commercially available! I can’t thank you enough for doing this AND sharing it with us!
I am going to definitely do this storage in my Christmas bins too. Excellent idea. Thank you so much. I have so many ornaments and boxes I'd love to reorganize and condense them. Thank you ❤ Linda from Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦❤️
Chantel this idea is absolutely brilliant!!!!! This year I swore I was going to purge and organize my gazillion 😜bins of Christmas decorations. This is perfect!!!!! I can't wait to do this 😁 Have a wonderful Christmas!!!!!!! See you soon 🤗
Thanks Renee! I definitely need to purge all of my Christmas decorations as well! This was a great place to start. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Oh my gosh I have been fiddling with the boxes to all of our ornaments for over 30 yrs putting them back into the original “hallmark” boxes so they wouldn’t get broke! You saved me!
I have been watching videos on Christmas storage. This is a great idea! I have tried the boxes with the cardboard dividers and you hit the nail on the head in that you can’t take a level out at a time. I am going to try this out! Thanks for the great idea!
This is such a great idea! I'll be keeping the vintage ornaments I have the original packages for in those original boxes, but I also have a lot of loose older and handmade ornaments that are currently being stored in a multitude of small cardboard boxes, inside larger cardboard boxes. They're all mostly just dumped in and crowded together, without any protection. This is a good solution for that.
Love this! What a great idea!!! The only change I’ve made to my storage is replacing all the colored plastic storage bins with clear plastic so at a glance I can see what’s in the bins without opening it up.
I have so many totes, smaller ones that my closet in our extra bedroom is full. This will be wonderful. Thank you so much, glad I found you. God bless you in the new year.
Oh my how wonderful! I love this idea. I have never seen those totes from Costco that inexpensive...but I have some in storage so when I get that stuff organized and I will have empty totes I will try this. I may need to do a couple since I have a lot of ornaments that I haven't used lately. Thank you for sharing this great idea.
I need to do this! I also have kept all my ornaments in the original packaging (for 40+ years) and really need to consolidate and organize them. Thank you for the inspiration! Merry Christmas to you and your Loved ones❤🎄🎁🎅🎀🤶
All I can say is, "Wow!" I've been racking my brain for just this and you've created a genius solution. I've been dreading the Christmas decoration take down this year -- it normally just exhausting and messy. Thank you so much for sharing!
I've exchanged packaging for small square boxes and wrote on the inside lid what the ornament is and the date I received or acquired it. If i switch to this method of storing my ornament, i will include a recipe card in each pocket to tell the "story" for each ornament.
LOL! I'm just seeing this in Jan of 2024. This year I got the same totes, at Costco, and they were $9.99 each. I bought 4! I wasn't exactly sure what I was going to do with them yet, but now I know what 1 will be used for! Thank you so much for sharing this. I absolutely LOVE this!!!
The totes at our Costco have gone up in price too. I bought some more this year for $8.99 each. Still a good deal for high quality totes. I loved using my ornament tote this year. It made decorating and undecorating the tree soooo much quicker. Thanks so much for watching Kristi!
Awesome idea Chantel. I am definitely going to do this with all of my ornaments to get them organized. I just hope I can get that tote in Canada but if not I will resize for a tote that I can get. Thank you so much! 👍
I love this idea. I’m actually trying to get my storage set for when all the decorations need to come down. You must have been reading my mind. Tfs. Merry Christmas 🎄🎅🏼
This is an excellent idea! I was dreading having to buy one of those fabric ornament bags because of the lack of protection in my attic. But, what you have done totally quells my fears! Not only is it more secure but it's easier to put away with the foam backing! Great job and great tip! Have a Happy holiday season!
This is an awesome idea! I am definitely going to make these. Wow, this will save so much time. Thank you so much for sharing. Merry Christmas to you and your family.🎄
Oh my, this is just brilliant & so simple to make! I do want to ask how many gallons that tote was, tho I will go to Costco & take my measuring tape to be sure. By the way, if you have vintage ornaments in their original boxes, they are worth more if you have those boxes, so hang onto the boxes, maybe at the side or even in a different tote that you don't get down until you sell.A million thanks for being so clever!
The tote I used is 27 gallons. I agree that there are some ornaments you may want to keep the boxes for but this solution works great for the majority of my ornaments. Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you. I have some ornament trays like that in some organizers I have. But the whole case it that same material. I never thought to just put some foam board in the bottom.
I don't think I rank as genius but thank you! 😊 I will say it was definitely a good idea though. Thanks so much for watching Alice and have a Merry Christmas!
I'm a construction worker and a really handy guy around the house, but I could not find what I needed at Home Depot to solve the ornament problem. As you pointed out I hated the idea of fabric boxes for my fragile ornaments and I hated the idea of unpacking all ornaments to get to the bottom ones. I was racking my brain trying to figure out the divider problem, so I looked it up on RUclips knowing some mom already cracked this home organizing nut, lol. Thanks A LOT for sharing your idea. It's going to make my life easier:)
You would think the storage gurus who manufacture these things would have come up with this long before now, right?! Thanks for watching and I'm glad it was helpful for you.
Wonderful idea. I've always wrapped ours individually in tissue paper & fit all in one tote, but that method takes quite a bit of time to wrap & unwrap every year. I am taking my tree down this week & heading to Wal-Mart for these. Thank you so much for sharing 😊
Most of my Hallmark ornaments are like sit on the box I have multiple types of them. I do have individual totes that have the old ones that I got for my grandparents and my mom. But a lot of my ornaments are breakable so you could put a outline of bubble wrap is what I put and then I'll put the ornament inside square That's still protected really because it's bubble wrapped
This is brilliant. Im in the midst of moving and was perplexed at how many Christmas totes I had as a result of all the extra little boxes; just like u. So this IS the solution. It’s just after Christmas and im headed to Costco to see if I can get some of these on sale.
While I acknowledge the nostalgia of unpacking, I definitely NEED this hack! Thx
I did basically the same thing but made my own devided trays out of cardboard board boxes. One thing I did that was a huge time saver was write a short description of the ornament in the bottom of each little cubbie. And it makes it easier for the kids to help!!
This is a great idea and the best solution I've seen for storing holiday decor.
Thanks so much!
Darling. The original boxes are part of the joy. They bring back the memories and keep your stuff safe.
I can see that, but personally I am much happier with this storage solution. I say do what works for you and what you are happy with.
I don't mind this idea for some decorations, but like you, I do enjoy wrapping and unwrapping my xmas decorations out of their boxes. I don't have those kind fancy boxes from the video because I always buy very cheap decorations, but I made mine from food packaging that I decorate myself.
Brilliant!! I already have those black totes. Using the drawer organizers is something I wouldn’t have thought of. So, thank you!!
Genius idea. Thank you so much for sharing! This will be great for all of my glass and ceramic baubles.

Great idea Jan!
I was thinking exactly the same thing!

I've searched You tube for ideas to store ornaments...and yours is the BEST idea! Thank you!
Very clever! I am going to make one for each of my kids to give to them with the ornaments from their childhood.
I have had the exact same experience when searching for ornament storage and it is something that has bothered me for years. Your solution is so much better than anything currently commercially available! I can’t thank you enough for doing this AND sharing it with us!
You are so welcome! I have been using mine for a couple of years now and I'm still loving it! Thanks so much for watching!
Such a great idea! Thank you for sharing.
Such a great idea & cheaper than a lot of organizers
This is so smart, I also saw the clutter bug video and then decided to search on here.. this is awesome
Thanks Diana! I love Cass' channel. She inspires me all the time. Thanks so much for watching and Happy New Year!
Wow! That is the smartest thing I’ve seen yet for storage!!
I am going to definitely do this storage in my Christmas bins too. Excellent idea. Thank you so much. I have so many ornaments and boxes I'd love to reorganize and condense them.

great idea time saver putting up and taking down 😀😀😀😀😀
I have been watching videos on Christmas storage. This is a great idea! I have tried the boxes with the cardboard dividers and you hit the nail on the head in that you can’t take a level out at a time. I am going to try this out! Thanks for the great idea!

You are so welcome! I'm glad you like it.
That's a really GREAT idea!! Thanks for sharing. Happy New Year 🎉
Love this. I would still wrap my most precious ones in paper towel pieces or tissue paper.
Chantel ... This is BRILLIANT!!! I have to do this ... thank you for sharing!!!
You are so welcome!
You’re a GENIUS! I’m doing this tomorrow! I have the soft sided tote and it makes me nervous! I subbed, you’re far too clever to miss a single tip! 🍀💚
Welcome to my channel! Thank you so much for watching and subbing!
Wonderful idea! I was just getting ready to start putting all of mine back in their boxes. Thanks!
Omg this idea is brilliant. I wish I saw this before I put everything away. But I most definitely will be doing this next year . Thank you so much
I need to do this for my ribbon
Good idea! It would certainly be great for that as well!
What a great idea! Now I know how to organize my Christmas ornaments. Thank you!
Yay! I'm so glad it was helpful! Have a Merry Christmas!

Absolutely! I still have a few collectible ornaments that I store in the original packages too but for all the other ones, I'm loving this tote!
Love this! What a great idea!!! The only change I’ve made to my storage is replacing all the colored plastic storage bins with clear plastic so at a glance I can see what’s in the bins without opening it up.
Oh this is amazing!!!! Perfect timing
Love this idea! Thank you! I need more ornament storage.
Awesome idea. I will be looking for those drawer organizers. I have a tote I can use! Merry Christmas🎄
Thanks Julie! I found the drawer organizers in the home section at Walmart in the aisle with the clothes hangars and hampers. Merry Christmas!
OMG that is a great idea. Thank you for sharing this ❤ this idea
I have so many totes, smaller ones that my closet in our extra bedroom is full. This will be wonderful. Thank you so much, glad I found you. God bless you in the new year.
Great idea…thanks! I struggle with putting away my ornaments every year. Great solution ❤

You are so welcome! The totes are more expensive this year. $8.99 at my store but that's still a pretty good deal for quality totes.
I need to do this! I also have kept all my ornaments in the original packaging (for 40+ years) and really need to consolidate and organize them. Thank you for the inspiration!
Merry Christmas to you and your Loved ones❤🎄🎁🎅🎀🤶
You're so welcome! Thank you for watching and Merry Christmas to you and your family as well!

I love this idea. I have a plastic ornament tote, but the cardboard flimsy dividers. I can replace the dividers with this. Awesome!
All I can say is, "Wow!" I've been racking my brain for just this and you've created a genius solution. I've been dreading the Christmas decoration take down this year -- it normally just exhausting and messy. Thank you so much for sharing!
Glad I could help! I actually made this last year and it made things so much easier this year! I'm still loving it!
Love this! Thank you!
I've exchanged packaging for small square boxes and wrote on the inside lid what the ornament is and the date I received or acquired it. If i switch to this method of storing my ornament, i will include a recipe card in each pocket to tell the "story" for each ornament.
This is a great tutorial! I sent it to my daughter!
This is awesome! I'm going to make this my "Christmas in JULY" craft project 🙂
