The man that is playing the bajo sexto in the red suit with black glasses is my father Hugo Gonzales we our so proud of our father to give so much to Tex Mex music by opening the door for the next generation. I will follow my father footstep and carry on his music thank to my fathers friend Ry Cooder and Flaco Jimenez .
R Gonzales i always admired your dad in the video. Loved watching him play the BS! I’m watching him Ad libbing about su tia vivía detrás de una hieleria and the tortilla con mantequilla and how he plays the Bs with such rhythm at the end of the video. Please thank him for me!!!
FLaco played in Woodrow at our Church’s San Ramon first Jamaica 1980- Mr Pete Guajardo owner of El Fronterizo Asked him to come- he brought in so many people -it was just amazing! We will forever be indebted to him and his Family. David Salinas Lubbock Tx
I don't care if it is cajunto, cajun, mexican, or texmex. All I know is , it sounds good to the ears and they are great together. I am a gringo, so I am not too familiar with the different kinds of music such as this, all I know is I love it.Someday I will be able to tell the difference.
I have known Flaco since way back! Borned and raised in the same city of San Antoniio,TX. Later had the honor and privilege of working with him as his Booking/Business Manager. He is one of a kind for sure. His Music is contagious! People in Classy theatres,London,Spain, would dance in the aisles! Know Hugo Guerreo on Bass Sexto. As well. Ry Cooder is also tops!! Thanks for the so special Video. Amie Victoria Castillo SA.TX.
Don't care where this music comes from , it's brilliant , i remember my relatives in the Netherlands used to play the accordion in the early fifty's , can't get over how Handsome Flaco Jimenez was when he was younger , WOW !!!!
What I like about Flaco is that his lyrics (at least the ones I've heard) don't usually talk about narcos, bullets, drugs and killings, damned be the hour that these crap took over the polkas in Spanish; German polkas and gringas like Frank Yankovic's never have such crappy lyrics.
This is Tex-Mex Music. In the early seventy's Flaco recorded with Doug Sahm and later he recorded with Ry Cooder. I've seen flace several times in Holland. great musician.
This is where it all started (Texas) conjunto is origanally from Texas. Germans and Polish brought the accordeon then it was adapted by us the Mexican americans.
Seguin Texas? Little Hat Jones ref, cool yeah Kentucky Blues. Flaco with Ry Cooder and the cat on Bajo Sexto. Keep them girls dancin boys. yeah Flaco, Tex mex and a piece of Willy DeVille lives! Laissez les bons temps rouler!
Nelson Rodriguez actually tejano is not a copy of traditional norteño music. Tejano uses Texas roots going from blues to jazz and includes those chords in our music. Traditional Norteño just uses the standard form of mexican chords.
What are the songs in this medley? The first two are awesome!! I saw in the comments that the song at 4:21 is "Turkey in the Straw." Just figured out the first one is "Viva Seguin" polka duh. Does anyone know the melody that comes in at 1:58? Thanks you guys.
Don't forget the heart of the band Issac Garcia "La Wera", my uncle, on drums, who played with Flaco for many many years along with many other local conjunto and tejano bands including Nicky's Sneak Villareal, Mingo Saldivar, Los Guadalupanos and many more. He passed last year but I continue to carry on the tradition. God bless the Garcias!!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼💯💯💯
@@tgif8846 so sorry to hear Issac passed away, I always tell people he my favourite all time drummer, he had amazing style taste and sound and phenomenal technique
This must be recorded in the early seventies. Flaco first recorded international with Doug Sahm and later Flaco recorded on a lot of numbers with Ry Cooder. Last year he stil was playing on Ry's last record.
This performance is taken from the first season of Austin City Limits. There is a cut in that show called "Cajun Song," but this isn't it. This is a medley of "Viva Seguin," "Rancho Grande," "Turkey in the Straw" and "San Antonio Rose."
FLACO, little bit older but still running around albeit a little slower but from what I've seen/heard, still has that squeeze box in tune... (And playing it, usually now while sitting)
Que Chulada , Señor Tavernero le vengo A,, avizar ,, que sus Sus Animales !! Jijijij se le ivan a hojar unos en la arena , y otros en la marrr 🐎 🐕🦓🐂🐄🐎🐐
Fantastic music , but it doesn't sound like Cajun . All songs are from other kinds of music. How old are these recordings, Ry Cooder and als Flaco looks quite young. :-)
Man how about los gringos try to dance this music they look like chapulines. Or what l mean like grasshoppers. You have to be a true tejano or born be to dance this music.

Love Ry Cooder smiling about (I guess) the non stop soloing of Flaco 4:20
Excellent music. You should be proud of your father. I hope you will emulate him.

The song at 4.21 is "Turkey In The Straw".
Who cares if it is Cajun? It's fun to.listen to.
Not "CAJUN", it's a polka from SEGUIN, TX.
If it was Cajun, there be a RASP in the instrument section.
Definitely TEX-MEX POLKA
This would have been in the mid- to late '70s. Flaco went on tour with Ry Cooder which was the source of Cooder's album "Showtime."
Flaco was bad to the bone!
He still is!
Really I didn't hear flaco talk at all only Hugo did the whole show
