Christopher Walken has done loads more than most film fans realize. This fine tribute to Kelly is sincerely done, not solely narrated, and a good example of his love for the craft and his life's works.

As a dancer, Gene Kelly was capable of physical feats that, today, we would associate with Captain America.
In addition, he was not just a great actor, he was a great COMIC actor: His several films with Frank Sinatra attest to this.

At age 6 I saw him in Singin' in the Rain on TCM with my parents. After that day I went into theater and I did my first play. Now I still act and I'm majoring in Theater. I'm looking to get into the business. Kelly is my number 1 inspiration. I would like to thank Kelly for inspiring me throughout all these years. You are still on of the best actors that ever lived.

My dad was a fabulous dancer himself and that was his secret wish, was to have been a professional dancer. We watched every musical over and over. Gene was so handsome sauve and debonair. the best. Gene Kelly was amazing. He kept you spellbound with his masculine moves and artistry. He had various consummate talents but his own method of dancing was unique among dancers and just magic. My favorite of any dancer ever, he entertained, wowed you with his athletic style yet also with majestic beautiful expressive routines. He could dance with anyone from a mouse, to a beginner like Debbie Reynolds, or ballet trained Cyd Charisse, easily and with total commitment. Those years he danced into our hearts and into a little girls to woman’s awe, was a privilege and lasting wonderful memory. Tears were even shed upon hearing of his death. He was a joy to behold.

This is another example of why TCM is the best channel on TV, especially for those who love classic films, or just film in general. They respect the films and never show commercials during the movie and show them unedited and in the format that they were shown in theatres - i.e. widescreen. And the network is choc full of wonderful tidbits like Walken's tribute here. You learn so much. For a movie lover, TCM is heaven.

Gene Kelly had a great interest in ballet (more so than Fred Astaire, who wished himself sometimes to be cast in 'Everyman' roles), and incorporated ballet sequences into several of his films (e.g., An American in Paris, Words and Music, On the Town). Cyd Charisse was herself originally a ballet dancer and drew compliments from both Kelly and Astaire.

Gene Kelly got much of his dance style from The Nicholas Brothers. He credited them as being the greatest dancers to have ever been filmed. (So did Fred Astaire.) Kelly’s dream was to do a dance number with them and he fulfilled that dream. He said afterward that he was nervous because he knew how great they were and he wanted to be sure he would be able to keep up with them.

@Salobrena Smith Since they aren't making musicals as often, how do you know most actors can sing and dance? And those that do, just how good are they compared to Old Hollywood? When sound came in, a lot of actors and actresses that went into movies came from theater. Now, some do it in reverse. But there is a difference between being 'theater trained' and joining a Broadway show, as they do nowadays. And while there are a number of good actors out there, they squander their talents making movies for Marvel...I detest them, both movies and actors.

I worked with Gene for an hour (recording a short bit in his house as a recordist/engineer (one one one - talk about scary), but he chastised me for being a few minutes late (which I'd absorbed), but one total by the book, businessman, got down to business. I set up in his huge entertainment room (30'+ ceiling, wall-in fireplace entertainment room, and set up at what appeared as a poker table. Long-haired (Sunset Strip rocker, I was at the time), I set my Tascam 4-track up at his gaming table, then made typical adjustments. Once comfy, Gene began to read this script, to be sent to French television, for a Cyd Charisse lifetime award show for France. I was scared shi*less, but managed my way through that afternoon in Beverly Hills. If you want to hear the actual recording, search MacLachlan and Gene Kelly. What a freaking day... Lol

I watched "Inherit the Wind" again very recently and completely agree with Walken. Kelly turned in a serious dramatic performance. There was a closing dialog with Tracy and Kelly that was breathtaking in its intensity. He had some razor-sharp lines and he delivered them perfectly.

Between Gene Kelly and this tribute to him, I wish I could rate this so much higher than just one thumb’s up.

A Legend paying tribute to an even greater Legend. What could be better? Thank you Chris. I remember first seeing you in the '70s ... in 'Next Stop Greenwich Village' and being awed.

In the Three Musketeers, Gene Kelly's fencing performance is both High art and quite deadly. You can see how his dancing skills blended into the sword fighting. Amazing.

Inherit the Wind was (and is) a fabulous movie, one of my all time favorites, and Gene Kelly was terrific, every bit a good as Spencer Tracy and Fredric March.

Gene Kelly was from PA and my dad loved him. My sister was flying to LA and at that time you could actually walk your family me,bets or friends right into the airplane. My dad, from connemaigh PA walked my sister onto her plane and saw Gene Kelly in first class. My mom almost swooned! My dad went up to Gene Kelly and said “ how bout a signature for an old town boy?” And of course being Gene Kelly he signed his name and gave it to him. I was only 8 at the time but I always thought my dad and Gene Kelly looked alike, both were sooooo handsome!
