I did the exact same thing as you with Libra's Lever! I thought that moving the fulcrum to the left created a 1:3 length ratio, and since the ball weighed 11 and torque is F x d, that the other side would have to weigh 33. After that failed, I tried every possible weight in order under I hit 22, and realized how small an error I'd made.
There are 3 levels in Edanna (Deadwood, forest, swamp). You could also say the three main puzzles there are the Squee, the Electro-ray, and the Flower.
Well, I always got the impression that Syrrus and Achenar were children when first running this whole gauntlet, making the puzzles quite complex for their age.
I think those scales in J'nanin were there before Saavedro arrived there. Knowing the weight of wood compared to crystal or metal doesn't specifically relate to writing ages, so it wouldn't have been part of Atrus' lessons. So Atrus would've included that downstairs room in the tusk so they would know that stuff for later. Otherwise, what would be the point of the downstairs room? Only upstairs would be necessary. I'd also like to note that, though possibly unintentional, fog is also similar to mist, which sounds an awful lot like Myst.
Thank you for not being too quick to say everything you know on these videos. I actually use them as hint when I'm stuck going around and not being able to find something when most of the time in this game, I just missed a path. I thought the 3D would help me after Riven but the design is so different and, sadly, the pictures are flater so it's very hard to distinguish some of the paths. So thank you a lot ! I solved this level so now I will enjoy watching you do it and reading me the pages I missed. 🙂
if you try to force it into 1080p it'll look worse. it wasn't meant for that high of resolution as the game is 12 years old. Sven knows what he's doing.
When you say "the brothers", my brain fills in with the wrong brothers and thinks that Atrus was "hooked on the brothers"! But Achenar's book wasn't green. Maybe Sirrus and Achenar are the sub-par Mirror Universe equivalents of the bros I'm thinking of, and Achenar's beard is his mirror universe evil facial hair! And maybe one of the ages they went to had flowers which could spit fire, that they used in the library on Myst Island! ...proooooobably not, though.
You know, at some points his voice really does sound like the narrator for some of the newer LEGO ads - /watch?v=9MDZeSeaRk4 not an exact match but that's what I thought of when I heard it on his first video.
Really? It seems to me that they came back and pulled their stunt many years after Atrus originally had them go through the test, because Saveedro mentions that Atrus had "abandoned" them by the time the brothers came promising salvation, and it's clear that the people of Narayan already knew Syrrus and Achenar well enough to trust them, so I assume they had been visiting for many years.
If only GOG (Good Old Games) had this on their site! as well as Myst 4, they have all the others. I have no luck getting these games to play on my Alienware laptop from the game discs. Did you have to use DOS Box to play any of the Myst games? BTW your videos are awesome :o)
First, NO ONE can "fix" an Age. This is something Ghen (Atrus' father) had to learn the hard way. He had often attempted to fix the Ages he wrote. The only thing you can do is link to a different version of the Age that does not have whatever you wanted to fix. The one exception to this rule was Atrus' daughter who apparently had the powers of the D'ni gods. Second, Atrus DID write Saavedro's home Age. You can't write only a linking book as the link will not work until you have written the description book. Syrrus and Achenar, like their grandfather (Ghen), did not understand the way the Art of Writing worked. Third, the Syrrus and Achenar were clearly poorly behaved as they destroyed Atrus' library on Myst island simply because they felt slighted by their father. This was also the motivation for them lying to Saavedro's people about Atrus. Finally, Atrus might have been able to create things to stabilize Saavedro's home if Atrus had even known it was unstable. Syrrus and Achenar never told him they had visited these Ages as adults. Plus, they trapped him in his first prison Age during their rampage through his other Ages.
PULL THE LEVER, KRONK!
ok :) pulls lever
wrong lever ....

D'ni are just built different.

I love the sounds in this age more than anything (or any other age)...
Sometimes the most simple things can be the most difficult to solve when you are expecting a complicated solution.
I find your extremely thorough explanation insightful...
The DVD version is the same as the CD version, except for the lack of CD switching and a fixed vertical offset for the movies.
Some of the videos of the DVD version have a better quality than the ones of the CD version.
Man, I over-thought the heck out of the old Memory Chamber door in Serenia...
I love this puzzle! I hope you show what happens when you try to send the sphere back toward the central pagoda.
I would say this one is my favourite puzzle of the Age.

Didn't expect so many spoilers for Myst 4.
Why I don't believe Atrus would deliberately write an unstable age: he could just use Gehn's ages as examples.
This whole age is just like testing out a roller coaster and riding said roller coaster.
None of the Myst games works under DOS. ^^ However, the first Myst game works under Windows 3.1, which itself can be installed in DOSBox.
I had the same problem with the balance beam - it does look like a 1:3 distance ratio. It isn't possible to make the weights add up to 33.

The game is 12 years old, 480p is high quality.
3 ages, 3 symbols, 3 puzzles/areas(edanna), etc.

Overthinking? Yeah, I do that a lot as an Asbie.

I had the most trouble with this age too
um, was the video format changed?

At 7:22 the pillar in the middle of the screen is hovering...
No. Why?
my browser couldn't read the video for some reason, apparently firefox doesn't like "HTML5"
it doesn't matter right now any how
it dosent work for me
16:25 - EPIC FAIL!!!
worst puzzle in this age ;)
why is your video always low quality
