The problem wasn't how they wrote the show, the problem was how they shoehorned in more plot towards the end without resolving the Piltover-Zaun conflict. They left a large dangling plot thread and moved on.

    • @BuddyChy
      @BuddyChy 2 месяца назад +1

The plot was the characters in both seasons. The conflict was just a catalyst and isn’t something that gets resolved. There’s always conflict to some extent. They got rid of martial law and reinstated the council and included a Zaunite as a council member. It’s not perfect but it’s a step in the right direction.

First season was a thought out self-contained story that worked really well, season 2 felt like they just wanted to set up their next shows with all the Noxus stuff and the plot from season 1 took a back seat to that. Like the Piltover and Zaun conflict which was the main theme of season 1 just gets resolved super quickly because now there's a billion other things happening. Lumi is right it needed another season to cook.

but they do need to make it call back to the game. because the show is an adaptation of the game. you do it the other way around and now, riot is snapping the Machine Herald out of existence to retcon in this show's viktor into a game that has no place for him. doing this affects other champions' lore, especially blitzcrank, who lol viktor created.
worst part is that this isnt even the biggest or most blatant retcon riot has done. i highly doubt show watchers or newer players even know of the institute of war, the reason the game is called 'league of legends' or why the player is called 'summoner'
edit: this show is bad on its own, but from the perspective of someone who liked what lol lore used to be, it's nigh unbearable.

League lore was better before they started to retcon things. Especially Trundle's lore where they turned him from a heroic character who saved his tribe and sacraficed his own health and capabilities and joined the league to get a cure for the disease, then they retconned him into being a boring brain dead brute lackey under Lissandra.

    • @MasterDecoy1W
      @MasterDecoy1W 2 месяца назад

Uhhh, I agree with the sentiment, but you know Trundle's original lore had him turn his back on the tribe, right? At the judgment, they tell him that the cure has weakened the tribe and he can save them by returning the curse. He tells the summoner that the tribe can kick rocks because they basically tricked him into thinking he'd be a hero if he suffered the curse for everyone. I really like the lore, it makes him an interesting and nuanced character, but I'd never refer to him as heroic.

  • @godfreysneakily2802

It's rushed because of the Black Rose/Noxus plotline. They could have removed it and made Mel and Ambessa into a single character who just manipulates the Pilties into producing weapons for Noxus. Focus more on the war between Zaun and Piltover.
Things happen super fast. The attack on the memorial was on the morning, and by night the injured Jayce already fitted a whole new squad of Cait's new squad. Viktor made a whole utopia in a few days.
Singed being behind everything kinda fits since he's responsible for a lot of champ's backstory in League. For Arcane-only audience, I could see how he does feel like a plot device, though. Like the Doraemon of Arcane. Singed players are unhinged lunatics and they got the best fanservice. congrats
For retconned champs like Camille, well, very small hope for a new lore. I don't trust Riot to pay attention to champs that aren't named Yasuo, Jinx, or Lux.
With the Viktor rework, it's really beginning to feel like League is a game based on Arcane instead of the other way round.

Ambessa, didn't go crazy. She wanted Hextech/The Arcane from the start. We just find out at the end. She cared about family like Tywin Lannister did. And she seems to also want to use Hextech/The Arcane/Warwick (literally anything she can get) to vie for power in Noxus. And the Black Rose seems to be scared shirtless by The Arcane.
Ambessa is the driving force for the plot, everyone else is a bystander. And the point is that the Arcane is too wild to control so the people with more affinity to it (Jinx, Ekko, Viktor, Mel) are wildcards that people can't control.
But, yes, most of this is not explicitly stated. There are a hundred things you are supposed to "get" but aren't stated. Like the fact that Kino did die because Ambessa f*d around and found out. Or that Vander might be Jinx's biological dad.

I don't think you should be allowed to retcon if you have no connection to the original. Sure, you work at the company Riot who owns the League property, but if you don't have direct input from the people who created the character and have since moved on, you don't get to touch their lore or personality. League heroes should tell you something about their designer, but they kept sanding off all the edges (and fucking up my favorites) so I quit.
If they want to completely rewrite the lore, then let them do it with new characters and turn the previous cast into time capsules. They represent the myths and legends of history. Especially since the League itself is meaningless, it isn't like there's any reason to keep up the façade that all these characters somehow coexist.

@@overthemoon34 Them not speaking out is them not burning bridges in the industry. You might as well say someone who does not talk to the police is guilty.
You're talking about the archetypes, I'm talking about the lore. Vi, Jinx, Ekko, and Jhin were supposed to have connected pasts through a secret society. While Jhin didn't keep the focus on the idea with his release lore, nothing contradicted it, meaning it could still be fleshed out at a later date. Arcane absolutely tanked any possibility for that to happen by giving a complete backstory to the characters, explaining their names, and being pushed as the primary way that people will be introduced to them.
"Characters change all the time." Uh, okay. Houses burn down all the time, too. That doesn't make it good or natural. Most reworks are Riot being shit at balance, and others are Riot fishing for cash by upping a characters polygon count because zoomers can't into old graphics. Where season 1 felt a lot more like a character driven plot, season 2 was all about having cool scenes and forcing charcters in to them / having some plot contrivance make it happen. For example it makes no sense that Viktor turned evil, he was willing to risk dieing to maintain Vanders mind but we are supposed to believe that he changed his mind on free will because Jayce failed to kill him, but also all that was needed for him to change back is thinking his plan through to it's logical conclusion, which he didn't so he needs to send his own memeories back through time via Jayce to learn it.
Sorry but that just screams bad writing.

I feel like people are just not smart enough to find out Ambessa's true intention was. She's DESPERATE for power, she lost her son and nearly died herself to the black rose, it was shown she wanted to use the hextech for her own gain. She knew searching for Mel going blind isn't going to end well.
She wants immortal army, which what Viktor could grant. She still wants hextech which is likely what Viktor promised, unbeknownst to them his true intention was to merge all humanity

Mostly in Episode 6,8,9. But If you want to criticize something than you need to approach it from a position of understanding. The writing in the first season was great. The characters, the setting, and the plot are beautifully interwoven through the concept of duality. You get Vender and Silco,l Vi and Jinx, Jayce and Heimmerdinger, Jinx and Powder, Hextech vs. Shimmer, and so many other things that are so carefully constructed with this concept in mind that work almost flawlessly. The second season was meant to be the continuation of that. But they couldn't continue using the same plot devises of the first season, so they needed to introduce more and give them a conclusion in the same amount of time. Also, yea fuck multiverses and all that metaphisical shit of the arcade and souls, and Viktor´s character development just makes him seem like he was high.

Very much disagree. Was the s2 perfect? No. But it was a phenomenal masterpiece.
One thing that can be critisized is Black Rose plotline. Main plots of Arcane are Sisters, Hextech, Piltover/Zaun relationship. There are also many subplots that enrich and expand the story. Unfortunately Black Rose feels like is a subplot connected to a subplot without connecting to the main plot unlike other parts. That subplot fills a lot of runtime that could be filled with expanding rest of existing story. Thats correct.
Arcane is a character driven story. If you don't pay attention to character's motivations, relationships and struggles you won't get it. Its not a plot driven story. Expecting plot as a driving force here is quite stupid.
Ambessa's motivations are quite clear ever since she appeared in s1. If you didn't get it, you should give it a rewatch or ask someone to explain it to you.
Arcane as a concept is purposly left to interpretation. Short explanation: Magic. That's it. Uncomprehesible power. Its quite obvious if you think about it.
Show has no substance? Its almost like someone can't interpret/read subtext and underlaying messeging. Hint: Jinx-Silco converastion in ep8 with context of ep 7. Thats the substance spelled out for anyone that haven't gottenit yet.
There could be more Jayce Victor scenes? Sure. There is still plenty to glain full understaing of their motivations and emotions.
Fight scenes were weak? Thats pure subjective statement of course, but thats gotta be the most distastefull opinion I've ever heard.
If you don't enjoy romance than maybe those parts of show are not for you rather than being bad?
There is plenty of sense of inviding Piltover by Noxus. Ambessa hes plenty of reason from logical, being weapons and technology in general (for a warmongering nation) to personal: revenge, arrogance, grief. Viktor explains it in ep 6.
Warwick/Vander plotline was a masterclass imo. The only thing that you could point out as a flaw is that his last form is not wolf-like enough.
Music videos serve as a more artisitic way of storytelling. Show dont tell to the extreme level. Its not for everyone but its not a flaw of the show. It requires much more brain power to comprehend.
These are just few pointers. I dont mean my comment as an insult but rather a frustration over media illiteracy. Its ok not not enjoy a show. Art is subjective. But you can still acknowledge something as well crafted and good while not enjoying it personally. Those two are separate. Just like you can adore something that is clearly even for you a hot garbage. Personally I never got into Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Simply can't watch more than 1 ep per month even though I enjoy that genre usually. But I still can recognize how well crafted were dialogues and characters and absolute genius casting.

yes the show is rushed originally they wanted the show to be 5 season but had to skim down to 2 because they only had 250m budget, that sound like alot but compair it to kungfu panda wich had 130m budget for 1h30p to arcane 2 season it not that much so alot has to be cut out and they did it pretty well
from season 1 ambessa came to piltover not because of mel but because she wanted to weaponize hextech the show already told us alot and the start of season 2 also show us that she would do everything to gain hextech weapon even stage the caitlyn funeral attack to gain piltover trust , she care for her family but above all else she wanted power the reason she wanted to attack piltover as the show say directly to us is because she made a deal with viktor the noxians will help viktor get to the hextgated and viktor will provide her the immortal army which at that point is still under viktor control she doesn't have them yet
viktor try to bargain with jayce to stand down but jayce refuse so that why they had to attack piltover
The black rose if you excluding the lore in league exist in arcane to support mel backstory , explaining to us and mel her origin and further support the ambessa thirst for power by saying that mel existence is a living weapon to ambessa from the start and they also said that ambessa let her thirst for power blind her from viktor glorious evolution plan to convince mel help them fight ambessa because ambessa stoled something from them
For the black rose lore why they involed in the viktor thing, tldr black rose exist to stop morderkaiser the death overlord of noxus from coming back to life and they search for power to one day if morderkaiser came back they can fight him with that power , also like they said ambessa stole something they deem powerfull from them. They didn't "shoehorn" black rose in because they hint that blackrose kill kino , mel brother from season 1
about the limit thing yes they have limit because they only had 250m for the project that they them self didn't know if this going to be success or not and if youre thinking that base on the reaction after season one they should have put more money into it then the thing it they can't because they being making this show from 2015, is 9 year making this project and by the time season 1 end season 2 already almost finished they dont have the time to make more of it , plus they mixed 2d art with 3d one, yes the model and movement came from a physic engine but they hand painting the model ,backgound , vfx so to changing the story at that point cost alot of time and money

The magic system in the show was fucking awful, making hextech basically unusable if following the lore. They also left out a ton of characters who absolutely should have been there, most notably Camile and Renata Glasc, arguably 2 of the most important characters in the entire region.

To be fair, "show don't tell" isn't black and white and more of a scale. History of cinema knows plenty of movies with heavy exposition, but they are still respected among casual crowd (and sometimes critics too). I suppose, my biggest gripe with the second season is the lack of emotional connection to the plot. League players were confused to see some sudden changes (Viktor using lame space magic instead of relying on somewhat realistic tech comes to mind), Arcane viewers saw a lot of thick plot dumped in their brains. Visuals are fire, yeah, but the story itself would've worked better with just a few more episodes. Cutting out certain characters out would've helped too, because there was certainly a high amount of somewhat useless bloat. Sometimes less is more. The project became too ambitious for its own good.
