The Turkish part features an Armenian who plays an originally Egyptian instrument while singing a Greco-Turkish song in Turkish lyrics. Amazing...

The first time I listened to this was in the "Egyptian Gardens Cafe" in N.Y.City. in 1962 the person that sang it was Saliha a very beautiful Turkish dancer. It was a wonderful time.

When I was a kid, I used to listen to this on my papou's 78 rpm record player while he drank Schmidt's Beer, ate feta and olives w. Italian bread dipped in olive oil. I sat with him and drank my Pepsi and said to myself, "Man, this is livin'"!

thank you for posting! I was looking for the original version by Roza Eskinazi. People should hear this original version (circa 1957?) to understand why it became a hit with later artists! Roza is still the greatest!

Yeah, that Chirping sound comes from the Kanun player strumming all the strings which are behind the bridge of the instrument Pretty Cool, Huh?

Hi Joe! This was the version my Mom and I always practiced our nightclub act to. When we performed together we always did a duo version with this. This first version was the one we played at home. Thanks for putting this on here. :)

Dave Brubeck, when he was in Istanbul soon after the WW2, heard this in a pub and was mesmerized by the measure and then he used the same measure and some motives in his Blue Rondo Alaturk.

JOE, Thanks AGAIN for getting this great music out to the Public Can you post another song by Duo Stamboul, THIO ORMORPHES STIN KOKKINIA? Thanks Man.
All the Versions of this GREAT song are enjoyable BUT the Version by the immortal Duo Stamboul starting at about 5:30 deserves special mention.
A poster named Zaff mentions hanging out with his Papou listening to Old Greek 78 songs and thinking :"man, thisis living!" I can only repeat how I hear this music with my mom when I was a kid as she ironed in our 1 bedroom apartmetn in Jackson Hts. I thought Wow< I wanted to play and sing like this!!!!
