      The raft is there because he couldn’t leave the island before zeus let him and he already built the raft in his seven years on the island

    • @Strykerclass242

      Also it’s not that Odysseus couldn’t leave the island because he couldn’t build a raft, it’s that Calypso’s Island is in itself cursed. Anyone who washes up on Calypso’s island is fated to be trapped there for the rest of their life. They can try to leave, build a raft and all that, but the second you fall asleep while out to sea, you’d have washed back up on Calypso’s Island.
      There are 2 ways I know of breaking the curse. One is to get direct permission from the gods to leave the island (which is what happens to Odysseus in the Odyssey) and the other comes from the Percy Jackson Novels, where in order to leave Calypso’s Island is to fall in love with Calypso, and her to fall in love with you in kind.

    My idea on the raft thing:
    I'm p sure Ody made the raft wanting to leave but Calypso's spell prevented him from leaving. He probably physically tried to leave with the raft but her spell kept bringing him back against his will.
    The point of God Games was to get Ody out from the spell. So when Hermes goes over, he is probably getting Ody out of her spell so that this time when Ody gets on his raft, he's able to *actually* leave the island now.

    • @KeeleTasume
      @KeeleTasume 3 дня назад +41

    • @MysticMyths
      @MysticMyths 3 дня назад +19

      This is my thoughts on the raft as well, why would Odysseus NOT try to leave in 7 years? Why would he immediately believe her and give up? The raft was just him trying and he kept it up for the hope that one day he might be able to go

    • @auronyx18
      @auronyx18 3 дня назад +11

      And the reason Hermes can do it is because he is the messenger God! And he wouldn’t do this if Zeus would punish him for it, so Athena fighting for Odysseus had an effect, like he says.

    • @forlornshadowdragon
      @forlornshadowdragon День назад +3

      To add some context...the island is Calypso's but when she mentions her spell in Love in Paradise, it's more of her CURSE. In Greek mythology Zeus was the one who put the spell on the island to punish Calypso for siding with her father, the Titan, Atlas. So for ANYONE to be able to leave they need to have Zeus' permission (aka, like you said, point of God Games).
      If Jorge is saying it's a spell she cast on her own island, why wouldn't she just lift it if she was so lonely; so that other people can stumble onto it even if she can't leave? I think the point is she can't lift it because it's not hers to do so.

      He's just floating there. For some reason. He should be unable to sing this bc he would have shot up straight to the stratosphere. Like a rocket.
      ** Perhaps it could be a case of how in air ballons, they can control by changing how strong/ big the fire is. If he were to be holding the rope that is cinching the bag closed, then he could control how much it opens and closes but that's just a guess. Not sure if that's the "canon" as in that's what Jorge had in mind.
      Or, I saw in a fan animatic where Hermes had gifted him his shoes, so the sort of idea I got from that was that the winged shoes "grounded" him by preventing the bag from continuing it's momentum and gave him some manuverability to allow him to do the following fight sequences.

    To explain why I think Ody beating Poseidon actually makes sense, I remember from the Jorge explanation video of god powers that yall watched a little bit of for Wisdom Saga, Jorge specifically mentioned that Poseidon is a god whose powers are mostly long-distance, and thus he is actually weak in close-combat. So Ody fighting him hand to hand actually puts Poseidon at a big disadvantage and is probably why he lost, especially when Ody seems to have the Ares quick thought as well, which boosts his hand-to-hand combat way higher

      I mean, nothing about the end of God Games implies Ody would know he's free. Calypso even says someone came to let her know he'd be leaving, and then when Hermes shows up in Dangerous Ody says he must have been the one to talk to Calypso.
      Ody had 0 idea he'd be able to leave until the moment Calypso told him he was free basically. He'd built that raft *before* knowing he could actually leave.

    • @claran3616
      @claran3616 3 дня назад +24

      Yeah all that, plus I add in Hermes’s favor to that. He has it in the odyssey, and Hermes has some authority over the dead.

    • @Giganotus
      @Giganotus 3 дня назад +13

      My theory too is that Poseidon has been just sitting there in the ocean for years. Greek gods need ambrosia to sustain their powers, which they consume on Olympus. If he’s been lurking, he’s not been consuming ambrosia. So he could literally be weaker than normal.

    • @MoonlitRaye
      @MoonlitRaye 2 дня назад +8

      To add to that, I'm sort of building up the headcanon that not only Ares, but all the ones Athena convinces in God Games give something to this final fight. They aren't directly involved but Ody essentially has the blessings of many gods that combine together to make him a formidable foe.
      We have Apollo, who as the god of healing, healed Ody's body. Casper points out he's "just drowning" but Odysseus probably had a lot of internal damage to organs and bones going on from having a giant triton crushing him. The drowning is the primary "killer" but if he had survived the water and drowning itself, his body would still be messed up. Let alone being able to move and fight like he does. So first we have Apollo healing his body (maybe even having some temp invincibility buff too)
      Hephestus adds a buff to his blade, since the "i will get back to my son" line he pulls out his sword, but a regular sword shouldn't "logically" cause damage to a god, but one reinforced by hephestus could.
      Next is Aphrodite, as the goddess of love, people often associate that with romantic specifically, but in God Games, she sings about Odysseus's mom's love for him and how she died heartbroken. So the line "for every comrade, for everyone of my my friends" is his love of his crew in that brotherhood sense that she's pulling in from. (And we get the chorus being "600 men, 600 men" as Ody goes "600 strike" what if Aphrodite is actually giving a strength buff in this moment. Like "you now have the strength of your 600 men" so not only is ody hitting Posidon 600 times, each strike has the power of 600 men.
      Ares, also is giving strength in a way, in that he's drawing from Ody's emotions of anger and desperation to turn into the determination to do what must be done to get home.
      Hera, I'm not too sure on, admittedly. My current idea is that she essentially argued with Zeus to allow them to give ody these small blessings. Zeus was like "you convinced me to release him but you can't get involved" and Hera said "no, we're invested and you aren't stopping this" so while she doesn't have a direct "blessing", she is the reason ody is blessed by the others.
      TL:DR
      Everyone in God Games gave a gift of sorts to help out.
      Apollo: healed his body (possible boost)
      Hephestus: boost to his sword
      Aphrodite: gift the strength of 600 men
      Ares: determination and fortitude
      Hera: ^ made it happen.

      @sungunner6244 3 дня назад +41

      I'm also pretty sure this isn't even his first raft. I mean, he's obviously going to try and try and try to get off this island. Maybe the spell would just gently bend the path of any man-made vessel and bring it back to the island every time, but honestly, that's not exactly how angry Olympians usually operate. I'd rather say the harder you try, the harder it hits you in the face. Odysseus probably spent seven years (or at least the first few) constantly (with small breaks to Calypso's harrasment) making more and more advanced rafts, trying to cross the magic line, crashing, and starting over. And again. And again... All the way to the brink of insanity.

    In the final moments of 600 Strike, when Posideon sings "You monster," you can hear the melody of the chorus of No Longer You. DEEP in the mix. Like the piano breaks through in the brief moment betwee the words "You" and "Monster" and you have to strain to hear it.
    I thought i was crazy when i first heard it. AND THEN JORGE CONFIRMED IT A FEW DAYS LATER!!
    THE PROPHECY CAME TRUE IN THAT MOMENT!!

    It gets me in my soul that Ody’s line to Poseidon “Maybe you could learn to forgive.” Is LITERALLY in the same tune of “Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves”.

Once Zeus decided to allow him free they lifted the curse on the island that kept him there. Which allowed Ody to leave

Zeus is the King of everything, so when he said let Odysseus go, she _HAD_ to let him go. Hermes went and informed them on the island to let Odysseus go.

    In regards to the power scaling, there's a character in the Iliad named Diomedes who literally fights some of the gods on the battlefield. He's being aided by Athena, yes, but it's still him doing it, and I loved learning about that because for me personally it aligned really well with how they depict mortals fighting gods in Percy Jackson. A mortal can't kill a god, but that doesn't mean they can't "beat them" per se. They can win a fight, even if it's in a more symbolic sort of way. And we definitely do need Jorge to weigh in on what precisely happened when Odysseus opened that bag. Some people hate the jetpack angle because it doesn't make sense, but I know I've seen media based on Greek Mythology which says if you open the bag with intention (which, to be clear, Eurylochus didn't) then you can command the wind to a limited degree.
    Some people back the Ares quick thought theory, some people think Hermes literally took the windbag to the Underworld and scooped up the souls of his crew knowing full well Ody would open the bag, and THEY helped him fight Poseidon, which is why he gets backing vocals. I've seen some animators have Hermes give him a pair of winged sandals like he does for Perseus. Personally I like the idea that ALL the gods from God Games gave him a little boost, and that's the "divine intervention" that Athena won for him.

    Hey y'all!!! First off I love your guys' content!
    One thing I wanted to say that I don't think anyone has caught on RUclips yet.. so in the song Six Hundred Strike, when Odysseus is facing Poseidon and singing "For every comrade, every one of my friends, almost all who have died by your hand." It actually is a motif to Legendary. So Odysseus is singing these lines which kind of mirrors Telemachus singing "Cause' I'm stuck with your stories, but no clue who you are, and no idea if you're dead or just too far." Like it has the same sound. I'm sorry if I knew more music terms I would use them to make it more clear but if you compare the two parts you can hear that they sound the same!
    It's just something I thought was really cool since it's literally Odysseus singing to the same sound that his son sang. Anyways, that's my little discovery!

    • @moss.notpanic
      @moss.notpanic 3 дня назад +6

      That is not a Legendary motif, that's the Full Speed Ahead motif (e.g. "watch where the birds fly/for every comrade, they will lead us to land/every one of my friend, there we'll hunt for food my second in command/almost all of whom were slaughtered by your hand")

    My theory with how Odysseus beat Poseidon is that yes he got some help from Ares, but he's also the great grandson of Hermes, so he's not completely mortal either, just very close to. So all that combined with Hermes also being good friends with the Fates he had a better chance at surviving and getting home which is supported by what Hermes says in Dangerous, "I know, if you dance with fate Then I know, I know, you'll enhance your state". This is just my take though, it's just how I made it make since in my head.

    I say my interpretation from posiden drowning odyssey is on purpose because in a certain story, it can be viewed worse because it could complicate the journey to the underworld. Also, i believe Posiden wanted to give him one of the worst deaths and is fitting to him. Also, with his control of storms, he could have froze his water trident to pierced him, but he didn't. He wanted him to suffer and drown he could easily use his trident to make an earthquake to shatter the ocean to make him go deep under the water to make sure he drowns.

    I have a theory (give me your thoughts if can!!)
    What if… when odysseus was like drowning after the god move, He didn’t actually PHYSICALLY died. Remember how The prophet was talking about how odysseus will become a monster? Imagine if the MONSTER and ODYSSEUS were different personalities? In this scene… “Odysseus” is dead. The MONSTER isn’t. Because if you think about it, the one who killed the Cyclops was Odysseus not yet the monster he became so it makes sense if Poseidon kills the killer who killed his son and not the monster deep inside of him. Because the lyrics “i see you on the brink of death, i see you draw your final breath, i see a man who gets to make it home alive but its no longer you.” is clearly describing ODYSSEUS and how he turns into a monster, What if… He didn’t turned fully monster yet in the underworld. What if… He just turned fully monster now.

    So odysseus is a master woodcarver, he's known to have invented many things. But while calypso is imprisoned on her island and cannot leave, nothing can happen on her island without her permission.(in the odyssey) It took the full might of zeus to force her to allow odysseus to leave.

    I understood the “why didn’t Ody leave the island 7 years ago” dilemma as that after calling out to Athena at the end of love in paradise, Athena went to convince Zeus to order calypso to let Ody off the island. I believed it implied at the end of God Games that because of Athena’s sacrifice Zeus decided to let Ody off the island and so by I’m not sorry for loving you Hermes, messenger of Olympus, brings Zeus’s command down to Calypso. My head cannon as to where the raft had come from is that Ody had built it years prior when he still believed he could get of the island himself but is only now getting to actually use it. He also could’ve just quickly thrown it together when Calypso was emptying her heart out during I’m not sorry for loving you (Which leads to a hilarious visual)

    Regarding the raft, in the Odyssey after all that time spent on the island, Calypso did provide him with materials to build the raft. To cite Wikipedia (yeah I know): "Calypso provides Odysseus with an axe, drill, and adze to build a boat. Calypso leads Odysseus to an island where he can chop down trees and make planks for his boat. Calypso also provides him with wine, bread, clothing, and more materials for his boat. The goddess then sets wind at his back when he sets sail. After seven years Odysseus has built his boat and leaves Calypso."
    So Ody just wasn't able to access the tools and materials before those 7 years.

He has been holding on to this pointless grudge(in the grand scheme of a god), keeping up a ten year storm at this point and waiting to this man at his home. Even for a god, that must be taxing. And you can kind of hear the weariness when he says "I can't". Its also a reason I think odyssius even survived.

    1: you can hear Polyphemus shouting with Poseidon on the god move part.

One speculated reason for Ares being kinda weak in myth is because war is split in half, one to Athena and one to Ares, with Athena ‘dead’ Ares could have inherited the full title of war god. (Athena isn’t weak because she is also a goddess of other things outside of war)
