  • ...Speaking of Indian society, a lot of people tend to think of hierarchical society where men have a dominant role and hold social privilege more than women. The foundation of Indian society was established with the thoughts from Ramayana and Mahabharata epics, which have shaped thought and roles of men and women in the society to conform to Brahmanism-Hinduism.
    This journey may bring you a different perspective. We take a journey to northeast India to get to know Khasis, indigenous people of Meghalaya. It is said that their way of life is hardly influenced by patriarchal system that is commonly be seen elsewhere, because they practice the culture of inheritance and succession through the mother’s clan line

    I think most Austro-Asiatic speaking societies such Khasi, Khmer, Mon, Kuy and others are mostly matrilineal. In Khmer society, the oldest daughters and wives tend to lead the household. There should be a annual cultural forum/event that connect all Austro-Asiatic speaking peoples in Southeast and South Asia.

    Our India is diverse by religion but the main hierarchy of the society is the same , so you can't say that Hinduism is the majority as we have large populations of Christians and Islam. Regardless of religion our languages, customs, cultures etc. Is the same

    • @kenterngomdir8957
      @kenterngomdir8957 2 года назад

      Sweetheart under what rock do you live. Hinduism is what drives the politics of the country and statistics do say this is a Hindu majority. Christians Muslim Parsi ect do exist and idealistic articles of the Constitution do aim for unity in diversity but that's hardly the truth. Calling the north east indigin Corona hardly plays out as unity. Our customary laws too my dear bear no semblance to that common heirarchy that you are talking about. As far as treating woman and children with care..we had that long ago.
