Great tutorial and content. I'm glad to see someone is covering this since most of it is about GPS and FMS nav. As you said, it's much more involving and satisfying to fly VOR and have to keep track of where you are and where you're going. I learned about VOR by flying the Captain Sim 707 and Ready for Pushback 747-200, and it's much more satisfying than just programming a route into the FMC and take off, engage the AP and go play with your dog. I hope you continue the series.
I'm ready to follow along. I've been trying to master VOR navigation using a 1987 book I picked up at a 2nd hand store, "Learning to Fly with Flight Simulator" by John Rafferty, and not having much luck. Flight Simulators were quite different then and it's easy to get lost in the translation. Can't wait for part 2.
It definitely takes some getting used to, Roger. When I first started simming in the 90s, this was the only way to navigate, but even for me it took me some time to re-wrap my head around all the concepts for this video.
Excellent presentation. Good info on Navigraph that I wasn't aware of, like the distance between points on the flight path showing up in the flight plan at the top. Thanks
Thanks, I know this wasn’t exactly the Navigraph planning video you had in mind, but I still have in my backlog to do a full deep dive on Navigraph only for GPS/FMS routes.
Hey Mark, I used your 737 tutorial series with doing my first flight in it and it was amazing. You did a great job with explaining the routines with the plane. I had a quick question, will you be planning on doing it with the Concorde at all?
Thanks for the kind words, much appreciated. That's an interesting question, I have considered covering the Concorde because it is such a unique aviation icon, but I don't see it happening in the next few months unfortunately, I've already got a ton of other content lined up. I'll definitely keep it in mind though!

Thanks for the kind words! Yep I’ve got at least another 5 videos planned on the topic coming over the next few months.
So excited for this new series! Great content, Mark!
What a wonderful tutorial- I love everything about how you approached this topic. Really looking forward to your next episode!
Thanks for the feedback, this is a complicated topic to explain so comments like this make it worthwhile
You are one ot the best "trainers" out there! Never would have thought that I would be interested in VOR "stuff" until I saw this video! 🙂
Great back to basics learning thanks
Haven’t seen you for a while, always appreciate your input :) Thx for sharing ! Radios 📻 the way to go !

Thanks Marc - as usual, your videos are very well done and fully explained, and most important - easy to understand.

This is exactly the right moment for this video! I want to learn to fly the Fokker F28 with traditional navigation (VOR NDB).
Enjoy that Fokker! It’s so much fun to fly it old school with VORs.
@@FlightSimSchool thnx. I am struggling how to deal with arrivals, procedures which are more and more rnav based
@@renefeijen5916 Indeed it's tricky, I'll be covering that aspect in the future as well.
First class, many thanks for these tutorials
Great instructional video. Thank you for taking the time to do this.

Excellent idea, thank you.
Love 💕 all Black Square Analog aircrafts, of course I’ve got them all :)

Cool Cool Thank You
Those clouds are the default on flight simulator? It's an addon?
SoFly presets is what I used for the clouds for the thumbnail. It’s in the marketplace.
@@FlightSimSchool thank you so much.
What is the name of program using to planning flight? Thnx
That's Navigraph, it's a paid subscription product, but if you flight sim regularly, it's worth the price.
Can you do a video with free apps/webs to do the fligh plan?
Is there an app in particular you’d like to see or just an overview of the options?
Not all VOR's have DME capability.
