WATCH MORE - The ending of The Sopranos will forever be controversial. Here's our TAKE on the full breakdown of what really happened: ruclips.net/video/Vy7tMx6ix8g/видео.html
Speaking of foreshadowing, for seasons I thought her name was Adriana La Serva ("the servant" in Italian) until I saw it with subtitles, and it is actually La Cerva (the female deer in Italian) which used to be a common animal sacrifice. Her destiny was doomed since the very start
@@malvavisco10 is the English letter C, (and maybe S for Chichilia) pronounced as "ch" in Italian? Like Dominic Cianesese is "Chianese" no? (Or Dominick Chinese lol)
It seemed to me like Adriana was always trying to do what was "right" in whatever situation she was put in. She only participated in the mob life because that's what she grew up around and it was "right" to those around her. Sort of a people pleaser. Even with the FBI, she doesn't just say "get me a lawyer" like presumably all the other wives would have done. She helps as much as she can stomach. Vs. Tony's other sister who also grew up around this, but said "no" and left.
Don't get me wrong, Adriana is a tragic character, but she ain't no saint either. She chose this life, she was warned by her mother in the early seasons. And just like Chrissy, she also spiralled into drugs and crime.
I’m so happy you talked about Carmela’s dream of Adriana in Paris, it’s one of my favorite scenes in the show. The outfit alone made the scene a 10/10 for me.
I remember during the car scene my husband said, wow they have been driving for a while, somethings not right. And sure enough a few moments later, Syl pulls over. So so so sad
As a Sopranos fan & young woman dating in her 20s, I end it with any guy who says he "identifies with" Christopher (and its been quite a few). And I regret absolutely nothing, it's an extremely direct insight into how much they value women & can recognize abuse.
Chris and Ades big mistake was that chris brought work with home. Ade shouldn’t be into their business in the first place. That’s something T never did. In the one hand he had his business but in the other hand he had his “normal” familylife.
Adriana tried to give Christopher a path to a new life. Christopher is so embroiled to his mob ties and selfish motives. His betrayal of Adriana leads to Adriana's death. The bad karma that ensues leads to Christopher's own death
Solid video and solid take on Adriana. It’s also nice to see something new on The Sopranos. It’s such a classic. It would also be really cool to see something comparing Mad Men to Sopranos, or parallels to Matthew Weiner’s work on both series, or just a comparison of Tony and Don.
Adriana had a pure heart she loved unconditionally, she was ride or die with Christopher. Her death was horrible and so scary. I think Christopher loved her in a really toxic way, he just loved the mob more. Her story was important because it showed even the FBI weren't the good guys, they knew they were tricking her into being an informant and she could get killed for it. They were willing to sacrifice her, even though she never hurt anyone just to build a case.
I tried to rewatch The Sopranos, but I couldn’t bear to go through the hard times with Adriana again so when she started her trajectory of doom I just quit. I love her and didn’t want to watch her fall apart again.
*Someone brought up the correct pronounciation of La Cerva and the symbolism of what Adriana represents* Maybe a bit irrelevant, but it's in my mind: La Cerva [when you said with the *ch-* sound] sounds alot like *chiva* (ch-EE-vuh), which is Spanish for female goat. ....a lot of us know what purpose, goats, are sadly known for. *I know it means female deer in Italian, but I just wanted to share the thought*
Adriana was a sweet girl, with a big heart, with zero self confidence...so she ends up demurring to more powerful personalities and makes horrible decisions when it comes to her judgement in people. In a world where she is constantly surrounded by sociopathic parasites, that proved....well...fatal.
Adriana was a woman who gave and gave and in the end, she wasn't even mourned long enough by the man who took everything from her. It is truly a sad story
I'm kind of surprised people have this interpretation, I thought it was pretty clear Chris never got over Adriana. I guess he didn't "mourn" her in the traditional sense, but he was definitely always hung up on her, and what he did. It's Kelly who he doesn't seem to give a shit about, she's clearly just a desperate replacement so he can pretend everything is ok. Getting Ade killed also kills any hope for Chris, and his downfall is certain from that point, she was the only real goodness in his life. As much a piece of shit human like him can care for anything, he did care about Ade, it's clear he genuinely considered running away with her- in contrast to how easily he killed other people who had done nothing to him (like Emile in the pilot).
She also took and took. She could have left of her own accord at any time, or cooperated with the FBI fully for her safety. She is a participant in her fate as we all are.
@@willmercuryyou’re right. The safest mentality is to be able to detach from anyone who proves they wish you harm. But for Adrianna, esp w her insecure past, her love was a mental disease. If it wasn’t, she’d be off free and safe in the early days when he was beating her up
Adriana is the cautionary tale of the entire show. She is what happens when a young woman with so much potential to be something ties her life and worth to an abusive partner that takes but doesn’t give. Yet she refused to get out of that situation because her self worth had been devalued by the abuse she suffered. She gave up everything to love a man who willingly sacrificed her for his fake family. Even if its a fictional show, let her fate and story be a warning that the partner you choose can either make you better or destroy you in the end.
I remember a few years ago some Sopranos fan account made a Instagram post showing what Christopher and Adriana’s children would look like and were seriously idolizing their relationship and Michael Imperioli just replied, “No.”
It's strange hearing Imperioli talk because he's comes across as sensitive and intelligent, pretty much the opposite of Christopher. Testament to the actor that it's hard to imagine him as being so different.
I kind of agree with lmperioli. They were an extremely toxic couple and would never get a happily ever after. It is weird to romanticize their relationship. If they had kids those kid’s lives would be hell. Growing up in a household with an abusive drug addict father and a dejected, down trodded mother who also turns to drugs. Any way ya slice it Adriana was always going to get killed. Unlike, the other wives/ girlfriends Adriana was much closer to the mob stuff by owning the Crazy Horse. She was too close, saw too much if Christopher didn’t kill her some other mob guy probably would because of her being in the wrong place at the wrong time. There is a reason most mob wives are housewives.
I hated what happened to Adriana. Her devotion and love led her to being used and abused and in the end nobody was actually there to protect her. Tragic.
TRUTH BE TOLD THE WOMAN IN THE PHOTO IS SO BEAUTIFUL ADORABLE SEDUCTIVE RAVISHING SEXY CAPTIVATING AND PASSIONATE HER BEAUTY IS PHENOMENAL IF MICHELANGELO WERE ALIVE TODAY SHE WOULD BE HIS MUSE ❤
What's sad is that her mom tried to tell her he was going to hurt her again. She really tried. Then once Ade "disappeared" she spiralled into a deep depression and tried to end her life. There was one person who truly loved her.
For your own well being it’s helpful to believe this but it’s not true.. I was raised by one. She tried extremely hard to charge by the end and was making some progress before she died. It’s possible.
Even when I hoped for a happy ending for those two (not romantically, maybe with Adriana escaping thanks to the FBI and a rehabilitated Chris), I like how raw the show was, and how the writers punched me with the reality. No, there's no happy endings for those relationships: She was too focused on fixing him, and he had the worst companies, making jokes every time he was clean (but he's the responsible at least). I hope she and Cossette are having a good time ❤ He knew he was going to hell lol
The problem with these women isnt just that they stay with abusive men. Its that if a nice guy approaches her she will reject him (even if he's handsome, Im not talking about ugly guys here). Because in her mind the very fact that he treats her well makes him a weak man. For her only an abusive man is strong enough to have her. These sort of girls always go to abusive guys. A little abusive, very abusive, it varies. But if he doesnt treat her a little badly then she just cant love him. Thats one pattern Ive discovered in all of these stories. They NEVER go for the nice guy. If he's very handsome they may sleep with him a couple of times. But if theres no darkness in the man she just isnt intrigued enough by him.
Oh my GOD I hammered this button when it came up. Adriana is one of my all-time favourite female characters, and in many ways the most devastating in all my TV-viewing life. The scene where she looks over at her suitcase in the passenger seat just wrenches me.
That scene gets me every time. The way she knows and is dreaming she left. I hate it. That’s one of the few times I yelled at the TV like no don’t do it!
Adriana makes me not feel bad for Chris whenever bad shit happens to him. At first she appears to be like some gold digging trophy for Chris but then you realize she was one of those few people who legit loved him unconditionally, which makes her ending even more sad.
Fr, chrissy is always seen as the tragic character that adriana is actually. People feel sorry for him, for his depression and loneliness but adrianna is the kindest, most loving and patient person to him and he treats her like shit
They didn't love each other. They were a highly toxic couple i many ways and she perfectly knew he was in dirty business. She's actually just like Carmela, who got involved with a mobster because of the money and comfort.
Adriana's death was the hardest episode for me to watch. She was raised in the life, with both uncles being in the mafia. To her it was normal. I don't think that she was fully aware of how brutal and ruthless the mob is until Silvio took her to her execution. She was relatively innocent, and she was a sweetheart but so naive. She was lonely, so when the undercover FBI agent befriended her, she was all too ready to share information with her, albeit, mostly useless information. When it was revieled to her that her "friend" Danielle was actually an FBI agent, she was genuinely hurt and betrayed. She loved Christopher, even though he was an abusive piece of shit and a junkie. The FBI should have had an agent tailing her knowing that she was supposed to convince Christopher to flip and join the witness protection program. In my opinion, the FBI got her killed. The FBI were supposed to be the "good guys" but Adriana's storyline showed us how the FBI was equally if not more ruthless than the mobsters they were pursuing.
Exactly. The stress was literally eating up her insides. They cackled at her issues. They saw the bruises, ain’t no way they didn’t know it was Christopher who put them there. They knew she could’ve been killed by him or any other member of the mob but did not care. They “couldn’t” send agents to watch her on the low, but sent agents to watch Meadow at school in NY & the other Sopranos.
I would love for you guys to do a video on Carmela being the master of denial. It can’t even be said that she’s turning a blind eye- she’s looking straight on at what goes on around her and convinces herself the sky is orange.
Exactly she acts like she has no clue on how she got this life of prestige but it doesn’t matter , as long as she has her status among her friends and material life she doesn’t care
and she does very explicitly struggle with her life’s morality throughout the seasons. at the end she never manages to be true but she’s also one of the only characters who genuinely does confront herself with these questions
And also Meadow, how she comes from innocent teen girl who is judging her father for being a mobster to mezzogiorno scene. It seemed to me that even Tony was disappointed how his daughter was turning into Carmela.
She was such a baddie. The heavy makeup, the nails, the hoops, the big hair, the animal prints, her style is EVERYTHING to me. I think about that tight black latex dress that she wore when her and Tony were flirting at least once a day. Out of all the characters in the show, Ade and Tracee were the ones that I felt the most sorry for. She was doomed from the start and I wish she had gotten a better ending away from Christopher and the rest of the mob, but that would obviously be impossible.
I also felt sorry for Rosalie Aprile and Vito's family. They both suffered so much (like Vito's son probably will have a shitton of trauma to unpack if he ever did)
Adriana is the one character whose fate I wish I could avert the most. Every time I watch The Sopranos I wish it would end differently for her and it devastates me every time.
Yes, the viewers often identify with Tony and even sympathize with him, if not outright idolize and worship him. Adriana's fate is a wake up call and a reminder, this man is a criminal and a killer and as much as you like him, he will throw you under the bus with absolutely no hesitation.
Can we also acknowledge how dirty the FBI done her. She genuinely didn't have any more information and they knew that her digging would get her killed. She was innocent, she was like a teenage girl who wanted to be with the bad boy because it's cool but didn't understand the reality of being with a bad boy.
There is a difference between a generic “bad boy” and an official member of organized crime. Her family was heavily involved in organized crime, she can’t say she doesn’t know what that entails. Her story is still sad, but she did know much of what she was getting herself into. But again, it’s still a sad story.
It hurt her so much that Debbie was not an FBI agent but more so she wasn’t her real friend. She told her something she had never told anyone before in confidence. That scene hurts so much
She was in the mob but was always (and convincingly) framed as a victim, where I've never felt the same was true for Carmela even though their situations share parallels. I always felt for Adriana; for me she's the type of sensitive woman who would thrive in a sympathetic, tolerant environment. Instead she's caught in the crossfire between the villainous Mob and the equally villainous FBI
I’m not sure the real life fbi would be as reckless as they were in a tv show but keep in mind they were trying to take down a murderous evil mob ring.
Adriana's arc, and her completely unfair demise, remain one of those moments in which The Sopranos both excelled -- by telling the story as it should be told -- and became utterly depressing -- when I understood nothing was ever going to end really well in this show. Adriana dying so horribly felt like us viewers hoping for something -- for a Tony who would someday want to become something other than what he was, for a Carmella that would someday succeed in running away -- and eventually getting nothing. Even the famous final scene -- Tony cuts to a black screen, and we don't know for sure what happened -- is the show's way of making us Adriana again: no, you're not going to get what you hope for, not even in the very last episode. Adriana, RIP. You deserved better, you never got it, you have my admiration as a character I will never forget. ---'---@
Yeah, I've always only been able to re-watch The Sopranos in very small doses. Horrific physical and sexual violence, murder, vileness and evil that goes unpunished, unavenged, sometimes unacknowledged is hard to take episode after episode. It bordered on sadistic at times. Almost zero karmic justice is meted out. I also find Gloria's arc so disturbing that I felt bad for Annabella Sciorra. She was absolutely phenomenal in a thankless role that showed the repulsive core of Tony Soprano.
I like your assessment of the final episode. So much better than so many other people's. That was my takeaway as well. The hopeful music in "Don't Stop Believin'" is either meant to set you up to see the family get back together and have life go on as usual if you take the music earnestly or see Tony get whacked if you take it ironically. Instead, it just stops mid-chorus and cuts to black before we ever know what happens. So perfect for a show like the Sopranos. All the people who hate the ending never really understood the show in my opinion.
Silvio's murder of Adriana was necessary for his own arc. Before that he had been more of a cartoon gangster. Now we see how utterly depraved and sick he is, so the final reckoning for Silvio too is looming over the last season.
It made sense it was Silvio. He is competent. Although he does successfully kill some people on the show, Paulie has an element of incompetence and Christopher probably could not nerve himself to actually kill her. It is unlikely Adriana would have got in the car with anybody else.
We actually see how awful sil is before, when he beats up tracee. I feel he is the most likeable one in the crew so it's important that the writers gave him those moments were we see how ruthless he can be
@macwyll Silvio slapped Tracee for not showing up for work, she had been hanging out with Ralph...and Ralph laughed while watching this happen from inside the house, like the psycho he was
Her biggest mistake was not immediately going to the "glorified crew" when the police started blackmailing her. They payed off witnesses and had dirty cops on their side etc so they could've probably helped make it go away.
Are you guys in my brain? I just watched The Sopranos ending explained video for the 300th time yesterday and said to myself, "I hope we get an Adrianna video, but we probably won't, the show's so old now." Loved her character so much.
The way they filmed the death of Ann Boleyn on The Tudors seems to be reminiscent of Adriana's death. The cut away to the sky at the moment is very similar.
Also-Christopher moving on so quickly is more a sign of desperation than one of callousness ..he remains haunted by Adriana and his final betrayal of her to the very end..it’s a sign of how great the show is that the writers didn’t clutter the storyline with his words about it -just the occasional reminder to Tony -no, instead we see it in his worsening addiction (think of the night he begins drinking again) and in his overall disengagement
I grew up with Drea DeMatteo in NYC Whitestone Queens. She and my sister are very close to this day. I remember watching the first season of the Sopranos and seeing her in an early episode and being shocked it was her. Good girl. Very cool family. Her mom, Donna, recently passed away she was an accomplished playwright here in NY. The Sopranos remains - for me- the greatest show in the history of television.
Absolutely. It reminds me of Hank's death in Breaking Bad. There's so much gruesome violence in both shows, but the death scenes for Hank and Adriana were so anti-climatic in a way, they were "simple" executions, which makes it even more bleak somehow. A sudden and matter-of-fact end for the only truly virtuous characters in both shows, who constantly believed in the prevailing of good until the very end.
@@dorian417idk about hank, it seemed like more of a personal obsession with Heisenberg than being virtuous. He was a bit of a bully at the beginning, he lost it and beat up Jessie out of personal anger, and is passively racist and sexist quite a few times aswell, idk if he's on the same level as Adriana who seems more naive and gullible.
Dreaming of Adriana with the dog, in Paris, is not only a confirmation of Adriana's innocence, but also of her death. She 'found' the dead dog, because she's also dead. And even the policeman tells so to Carmela, who deep down already knows.
I really loved her character and was so distraught when she died. I wanted nothing but the best for her but she was too nice to those who didn’t deserve it.
She wasn't completely innocent. She dealt drugs (which is how the FBI snagged her to begin with), and she was dazzled by the trinkets that Christopher got her using his blood money. She also helped those guys cover up that murder in the club if you remember.
@@martinezelvia9948 She was pretty damn materialistic. A reasonable person would not have put themselves in the position she did for nice clothing and jewelry.
I adored her the whole way through. I’m very much an Adriana, and it’s been to my detriment. I’ve had to learn the hard way too. Luckily, I’m still here. I loved your take on her. You gave her the compassion and care the show never could.
And that's not a criticism of the show. I'm sure the authors would have loved to give her the happiness she deserved. But ... that's not what the story called for, that's not the kind of story this was. And they stuck to it. And it hurt like hell. As it should. I'll never forget Adriana. No one will.
@@Asehpe , exactly right. That’s why I used the word ‘could.’ I’m sure they wanted to do more for Adriana. It must have hurt like hell for them to keep that realistic and making her character arc what it needed to be.
I'm an Adriana too, I just realised that all of a sudden everyone who has ever taken advantage of me, claims that I'm aggressive and angry... This video made me realise that it's because I finally stood up for myself
I have watched an insane amount of tv and can say Adrianna is one of the most well written women in television history. Drea de Matteo absolutely nailed the emotional complexity the role demanded and it is such a privilege to watch a master at work across from Micheal Imperioli. Their chemistry and energy is just perfect. We all have the friend who is too good for her man, who lets herself be held back or is content going his speed because she cares so deeply. Her story is so utterly tragic it’s almost kept me from rewatching the entire series, but that is the strength of the writing: we all see a little bit of someone we know in these characters. For so many reasons we will never get another Sopranos but it’s always worth a watch.
"We all have the friend who is too good for her man, who lets herself be held back or is content going his speed because she cares so deeply." Equally, we all have the friend who is too good for the verbally, physically abusive and manipulative woman he is with who won't leave her for too many reasons to mention. I have seen this many times so let's not act like this is something that only occurs to women.
She the ultimate story of the woman who believes if she loves him enough, she can save him from himself, from his vices, from his lifestyle, but in the end, she will never save him because he has no desire to be saved. She loves what could be not what is. In her case, she pays the ultimate price for loving a man who may have loved her, but he never loved her half as much as she loved him. And Drea de Matteo was perfectly cast.
@@bluecollarlit Damn. I like that advice. Seriously. Just became someone has the potential to change or become a better person doesn't mean they have the desire to change.
Nah she's just the stupid girl who dates a mafia guy..that's it!! It's not about potential it's about choices!! Her mother warned her but she didn't listen..
I always hated Christopher, which is weird bc I was biased towards liking him going into watching The Sopranos. I saw a tiktok saying he’s the best character and all the comments were agreeing with him. So I started watching it; “ok he seems like an asshole and I wouldn’t like him irl, that’s ok, he can still be the best character.”, then I saw him abusing Adrianna, just generally being a dick to her, not caring about her problems ever, yelling at her over trivial shit, later beating the shit out of her multiple times, and lastly even after she dies it seems like he couldn’t give a single shit about her (yk the woman that you dated for years and years and were about to marry). I forgot about the dog, Adrianna was obv extremely upset about that and he didn’t even give a shit. I’ve noticed that I only ever remember him apologizing once and it was when he went to her mom’s house to get her back. Chris is a fucking sociopath and it’s crazy to me that people actually like him. I felt so bad for her throughout the show. :(
Christopher is a great character. He is one of the only complete characters. We know everything about him. He is very compelling. Not that I would hang out with any of them.
@@SatansSimgma I stand corrected about him not caring about her after she died. I play Xbox while watching the show, and I got that impression at first; but the other day I watched an episode and he was sad about it. But I still really don’t like him, for those other reasons. Like he’s a well made character, but I’ve seen everyone worshipping him and saying he’s so relatable and shit. Like if I was a drug addict I’d find Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad a hell of a lot more relatable than Chris. Chris lacks every emotion except for anger.
adrianna was definietly gonna blow tony. Chris rage wasnt misplaced 😂. Also as nice as adrianna was. She didnt once ask for a lawyer from the feds.the real tragedy was chris realizing that tony would feed him to the lions , and then regretting not going with adrianna.
Nah I think Vito's was darker. The way Phil Leotardo got off on watching him being tortured to death just shows the severity of that life and how you don't even have to betray the family like Ade did to be brutally murdered.
10:28 This reading is incorrect. Christopher does not easily move on from Adriana, he never moves on at all. He gets married as a rash decision after getting a woman who doesn't even understand him pregnant. The camera even lingers on his face when this woman invokes Adriana's name and Chris plays the part of an abandoned man, yet his face reveals the pain and regret in his loss of Adriana. He had the love of his life murdered and never lives it down despite his best efforts. He then falls back into his drug addiction and entertains the possibility starting a new relationship with a fellow addict sidepiece as he's now in such a low place that even a junkie understands him better than his fiance. He cannot move on from Adriana. Also, bringing up the violence against Adriana and other women on the show as some kind of misogyny is cheap and weird. The lives of women aren't devalued on The Sopranos, the lives of humans are. There is far more violence and death brought to men than women on the show. The world of organized criminals is upheld by violence or the threat thereof and women are also a part of that world, it would be false of the show to somehow exclude women from that violence.
*The chances of the writers knowing this little Roman fact [while] having Adriana decked with gold jewelry is slim to none, but it's something I want to point out:* In Ancient Rome, when girls were betrothed (aka engaged) to men, (yes, you heard that right n I'm not gonna get into *THAT)* they would be given jewelry. Whenever those girls would go out, they couldn't just walk out. They had to be *DECKED TO THE NINES* with the jewelry their fiances gave them. It was basically a way for the girls to peacock (on behalf of their fiances) and let everyone know that they are getting married to someone with wealth. Having said that, while Carmela does have some jewelry, she doesn't need to wear it all the time because *EVERYONE* knows that she's married and who she's married to. Meanwhile, Adriana (although she has a love for jewelry) to me, wears *ALL* of her jewelry Christopher has given her as a way of peacocking on his behalf. Just a thought, I had. Sorry for this long comment. I know no one will read this. And if you did, *thank you* ❤
What hurts too is that even after her death Chris still put the Blowing Tony story in his movie. Her legacy will always be that person who blew Tony even though it was proven to him it wasn’t true.
I was JUST thinking "boy, I wish The Take had a few more Sopranos analysis videos" while on a Mad Men video binge. Just the other day I was talking to my sister about how unfair Ade's death was. You guys read my mind!
I absolutely love Adrianna so much. I hated the way Christopher treated her at times. Especially when he would beat the shit out of her and choke her out. Seeing her go through that always broke my heart.
Great work, do one on Ralph Cifaretto next! How he’s basically a reflection of Tony’s ugliest and worst personality traits and maybe get into a little of Carl Jung’s concept of The Shadow?
Ralph was the scummiest character in the show, followed by Richie. At least Tony had a few redeeming qualities. Ralph and Richie didn't have them at all.
She was far form innocent. She knew Chris was involved in criminal shit and still chose to be with him, just as Carmela chose to be with Tony knowing he's a violent murderer.
Adriana made so many mistakes I can’t believe people in the comments are painting her as a victim. She was with Christopher because they were exactly alike: two young, wild, dumb, airheads who were into partying and bad decisions. She NEVER should have befriended that FBI agent so swiftly and openly. She was a ditz. She was perfect for Christopher. Imagine Carmela, or Ro, being so sloppy in their day to day affairs that they’d be dragged in to the FBI. Would never happen. I still cry when I rewatch that episode when Adriana gets driven into the woods. But she had it coming. She was pretty, but not too bright.
Not really. There's a lot of women trapped in relationships like that thinking they're partner will change when, usually, they never do. It's pretty realistic in that regard.
She was indeed tragic and her downfall with the FBI story line was the beginning of the end for her. She was naive. Her whacking was the saddest of them all.
Adriana was so unbelievably stunning! Idk what the narrator was going on about a Greek tragedy. I tuned all of that out and just stared at all of the amazing looks Adriana served throughout the years on The Sopranos.
You say the women of the show are often subjects of brutality by the men. If that's that's the case, it should be acknowledged that MANY of the women in this show were just as ruthless as the men. Maybe not in a physical way but they were just as conniving and manipulative. I do not condone violence against ANYONE, man or woman but there are other ways other than the physical to be brutal.
Goddamm girl. Why so many inteligent, resourcefull, and good women chose to insist in a relationship with someone like Christofer? Must be a combination of a lot of trauma and bad experiences to lead a woman to make a choice like that.
The show is all about people abusing each other, and Adriana is arguably the most abused. She's a tough girl, she's even a very bright girl, she has lots or great ideas, she fucks the feds around trying to bide her time to find a way out without incriminating anybody. However, her sacrifice to the show, is to show how brutal the criminal underworld is. Someone like Silvio can be your friend, take you on a ride, and just pull you by your hair out of the car while you're pleading for forgiveness, and shoot you in the back of the head. It was SHOCKING how brutal her murder was, and it was more shocking how little it seemed to affect Chris.
I remember thinking how Adriana's story made me think of Gelsomina from "La Strada", even if she is constantly abuse by Zampano, she stays with him regardless...
Shortly after the series end, I saw an interview with Steve Van Zandt, where he admitted that the scene when he goes after and ultimately kills Adriana was so gut wrenching in its nature and that he was at first a bit apprehensive. He carried through with help and lots of laughter to get through. It must be said that his disclosed that it was Drea herself who gave him most of the encouragement and love! Miss Drea! We love you still!
Her ultimate downfall was because she was addicted to drugs. That was one major reason she stayed with Christopher and the other mob guys. And her drug addiction was the reason the FBI targeted and used her. If she was clean of the drugs and that style of life she would have avoided all the bad stuff in the Sopranos.
There’s another scene not mentioned here which really makes Christopher’s perspective twisted to me. After talking to Adriana and agreeing to go away he goes to the store and sees a man with his kids. And in that moment I thought “oh he sees these kids and thinks about his future with ade and so goes with her!” But no. He has her killed, because she was couldn’t get pregnant
Silvio Dante kills Adriana La Cerva. Silvio in italian means "The Hunter". La Cerva means "The Deer". So, in Long Term Parking, the hunter kills the deer in the forest.
I ironic how Chris hates how Adriana is unable to have children and openly mocks the bikers in S6. But years later her actress plays the ex-wife of a biker, has a child, and outlived everyone in Sons of Anarchy
Their apartment also carried a symbolic meaning to Adrianas’ story - it was always dark, lacking natural light, symbolic of the relationship where Ade was trapped. Only time when there was a glimpse of natural light in the apartment was when Ade and Chris were going to escape, symbolizing chance of hope for Ade
She admits to being the same, if not worse than Christopher. She tells the FBI agent that if she had found Christopher alone in a car like he did with her and Tony, she would have killed him. She also hid a murder, sent her friend to prison for petty reasons, and had no problem with how Christopher made his money. I clearly didn't see her in the same light as the makers of this video.
ok, don't leave out the part that Chris considered taking her up on going into Witness Protection, but when he was at the gas station and saw that one dude and his family, quickly put it out of his mind and went to see Tony. Just by him in his own way even considering it shows he did love her, as well as the fact he let Tony know under no terms could he ever pull the trigger on her. Chris has done a bunch of cold stuff but he could not kill Adriana. Torn between tradition and love is what caused his decline as shown in later eps.
Nah. She knew Christopher was in dirty business and still decided to be in a relationship with him, becuase mob wives can get easy luxuries from their husbands' crimes. I'm not saying that she deserved her fate (she didn't), but she's far from being a heroine.

Speaking of foreshadowing, for seasons I thought her name was Adriana La Serva ("the servant" in Italian) until I saw it with subtitles, and it is actually La Cerva (the female deer in Italian) which used to be a common animal sacrifice. Her destiny was doomed since the very start
Yeah, they Americanized the pronunciation on the show, but if they said it correctly, it would be la-chair-va

She was just an idiot for the most part hahahaha

I’m so happy you talked about Carmela’s dream of Adriana in Paris, it’s one of my favorite scenes in the show. The outfit alone made the scene a 10/10 for me.
I do remember the outfit but can't put a finger to from when exactly.
She looked great and she looked happy-finally.
The Sopranos takes are back!? Yes!!!
I tried to rewatch The Sopranos, but I couldn’t bear to go through the hard times with Adriana again so when she started her trajectory of doom I just quit. I love her and didn’t want to watch her fall apart again.
*Someone brought up the correct pronounciation of La Cerva and the symbolism of what Adriana represents*
Maybe a bit irrelevant, but it's in my mind:
La Cerva [when you said with the *ch-* sound] sounds alot like *chiva* (ch-EE-vuh), which is Spanish for female goat.
....a lot of us know what purpose, goats, are sadly known for.
*I know it means female deer in Italian, but I just wanted to share the thought*
I disagree that women alone are the victims in this show. The men are also killed all the time, nothing to do with gender, just violence everywhere
As much a piece of shit human like him can care for anything, he did care about Ade, it's clear he genuinely considered running away with her- in contrast to how easily he killed other people who had done nothing to him (like Emile in the pilot).
she snitched on him
For real.😪 I still have a soft spot in my heart for her.

For your own well being it’s helpful to believe this but it’s not true.. I was raised by one. She tried extremely hard to charge by the end and was making some progress before she died. It’s possible.
Adrian's and Chris's whole relationship is literally the embodiment of "I can change him"
Even when I hoped for a happy ending for those two (not romantically, maybe with Adriana escaping thanks to the FBI and a rehabilitated Chris), I like how raw the show was, and how the writers punched me with the reality.

@ doesnt matter. she cant be trusted. the fact that she talking to police is enough information especially from a person they barely know
Adriana's death was the hardest episode for me to watch.
Shows that the fbi are kinda like a mob themselves in this universe…poor thing
Great explanation of the heartache.
I would love for you guys to do a video on Carmela being the master of denial. It can’t even be said that she’s turning a blind eye- she’s looking straight on at what goes on around her and convinces herself the sky is orange.
For sure, she chose that life and knew what could happen
Exactly she acts like she has no clue on how she got this life of prestige but it doesn’t matter , as long as she has her status among her friends and material life she doesn’t care
Her scene with the therapist already summed it up perfectly.
and she does very explicitly struggle with her life’s morality throughout the seasons. at the end she never manages to be true but she’s also one of the only characters who genuinely does confront herself with these questions
And also Meadow, how she comes from innocent teen girl who is judging her father for being a mobster to mezzogiorno scene. It seemed to me that even Tony was disappointed how his daughter was turning into Carmela.
Adriana's story broke my heart in a way no other character in the history of television could.
Was tracee the dancer that Ralph killed ?

Every time I re-watch The Sopranos I have to skip Long Term Parking. It was necessary to the series, I get it, but once is enough for that heartbreak.

The FBI's informant handling in The Sopranos does leave much to be desired.
She knew the implications she knew Chris is a cold blooded criminal.
That scene hurts so much
Yeah the FBI are such idiots on that show. They are not any smarter than Tony’s crew if anything they’re dumber

"If you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention" vs "don't stop believin"
@@slayerduval1 gloria was a delusional evil psycho bish lmfao not a victim she knew he was married..
Thank god it was partly offscreen, I was already depressed and in shock after silvio pulling out the gun and hearing the gunshot
I feel he is the most likeable one in the crew so it's important that the writers gave him those moments were we see how ruthless he can be
@@isabellasimonetti6126 When did he beat her up? That was Ralph who did that.
@macwyll Silvio slapped Tracee for not showing up for work, she had been hanging out with Ralph...and Ralph laughed while watching this happen from inside the house, like the psycho he was

Are you guys in my brain? I just watched The Sopranos ending explained video for the 300th time yesterday and said to myself, "I hope we get an Adrianna video, but we probably won't, the show's so old now." Loved her character so much.
It's never too late to comment on a show
The Sopranos can never be old.
It's ageless, timeless.

The Sopranos remains - for me- the greatest show in the history of television.
I hadn’t thought about Adriana for a long time, but definitely thought her character was compelling during the show’s run.
Adriana was doomed the minute she entered a relationship with Christopher. He was a completely selfish, arrogant POS.
This is the classic tale of the “I can fix him” trope and that’s what led to her downfall
She was not trying to fix him.
She was such a great character in the show. Despite her death being off-screen, it was arguably the most impactful one. Apart from maybe Christopher.
"We all have the friend who is too good for her man, who lets herself be held back or is content going his speed because she cares so deeply."
Equally, we all have the friend who is too good for the verbally, physically abusive and manipulative woman he is with who won't leave her for too many reasons to mention. I have seen this many times so let's not act like this is something that only occurs to women.

This reading is incorrect.
I also didn't like misogyny used as an explanation. It's an overused term.
*The chances of the writers knowing this little Roman fact [while] having Adriana decked with gold jewelry is slim to none, but it's something I want to point out:*
In Ancient Rome, when girls were betrothed (aka engaged) to men, (yes, you heard that right n I'm not gonna get into *THAT)* they would be given jewelry.
And if you did, *thank you* ❤
Great comment thanks for sharing
Muito obrigada pelo comentário importante.😊
fascinating explanation, thank you!
What hurts too is that even after her death Chris still put the Blowing Tony story in his movie. Her legacy will always be that person who blew Tony even though it was proven to him it wasn’t true.
Kinda felt bad for Adriana cus she was gullible at times
Fr
The character certainly was not smart. She was pure hearted and loving, but she did not realise she was being abused
… by Christopher and the FBI.
Just when she thought she was out. Silvio dragged her right back in.
Please do one on Lori from The Deuce too, another great tragic heroine. The creators described her as “the cost personified” of the pxrn industry
That show is so underrated
Great work, do one on Ralph Cifaretto next! How he’s basically a reflection of Tony’s ugliest and worst personality traits and maybe get into a little of Carl Jung’s concept of The Shadow?
Ralph was the scummiest character in the show, followed by Richie. At least Tony had a few redeeming qualities. Ralph and Richie didn't have them at all.
She was the best girl born in the wrong world.💔
This literally made me cry. You made a great job showing how despite being part of a criminal context, she was innocent at heart.
She wasn’t a hero, and certainly wasn’t intelligent.
The way Chris abused Adriana is amazing how loyal she was to him.
Not really. There's a lot of women trapped in relationships like that thinking they're partner will change when, usually, they never do. It's pretty realistic in that regard.
Abuse relationships are just like this
She must be loyle to her capo
Love a return this kind of stuff , analysis of characters and the plot
Carmella for instance was a 4king monster.
Or Tony's mom
Goddamm girl. Why so many inteligent, resourcefull, and good women chose to insist in a relationship with someone like Christofer? Must be a combination of a lot of trauma and bad experiences to lead a woman to make a choice like that.
I still remember watching the episode. It haunted me for days. And made me dislike Christopher until his end!
Kurt Sutter was a Sopranos fan. He gave Drea the happy ending Adriana deserved.
He stated he hates the scene where he has to hit Tracey too
Her ultimate downfall was because she was addicted to drugs. That was one major reason she stayed with Christopher and the other mob guys. And her drug addiction was the reason the FBI targeted and used her. If she was clean of the drugs and that style of life she would have avoided all the bad stuff in the Sopranos.
Reveals what real monsters Sopranos and other mobsters really are.
There’s another scene not mentioned here which really makes Christopher’s perspective twisted to me. After talking to Adriana and agreeing to go away he goes to the store and sees a man with his kids. And in that moment I thought “oh he sees these kids and thinks about his future with ade and so goes with her!”
But no.
Wow The Take pumping out Sopranos content after all this time! More of this, less Gone Girl stuff. I said my piece Chrissy.
I can watch that episode during rewatches of the show. She always light up the screen at every scene😢
This show is incredible in how terrible it is. Wanting to rewatch it but damn it feels like a reminder of abuse.
i hate Christopher so so much with his uni brows
When they killed her it broke my heart. She was such a sweet person.
She was definitely not very smart 😢
Christopher choked to death on a lot less blood than he caused Adriana over the years.
Nah. She knew Christopher was in dirty business and still decided to be in a relationship with him, becuase mob wives can get easy luxuries from their husbands' crimes.
I'm not saying that she deserved her fate (she didn't), but she's far from being a heroine.
I loved your analysis, and I love Adriana so much. I'm still heartbroken over her 💔
I was depressed when she got killed off. I didn’t feel bad when Silvio got shot.
