This is a master class in improv. The speed with which they can play off each other and pick up the next topic or just switch it....unreal, true masters.
So very, very true and there are so few comedians/actors who are fast enough to do it really well. One, however, is 90-year-old Betty White, who is super fast at "pickup". But these two are just marvelous. Just marvelous.
@@nibblebytes Martin and Catherine are both world-class improv comedians and they worked together for years. Typically in these kinds of skits there would be a high-level outline but then they'd just riff most of the content, which is most likely what they were doing here.
She's one of he only interview-ees he's had who could control the interview. Their both hilarious, but she just knows him too well to sit back and take it. Awesome. I keep watching all these Jiminy Glick bits, because they're so addictive.
@Jeff Baker Absolutely. The 'funny and smart', accounts for some of the crush. And, of course the fact that they're easy on the eyes, certainly doesn't hurt. But, yeah, ultra talented, humorous gals, get me. I had a crush on Gilda Radner, too. And Julie Louise-Dreyfus, ... 👍
They were friends in the early 70s, and sctv cast members...all from Canada, all the Canadian comedians back then are still friends today. Everybody adores martin short
Even in this poor quality video, Catherine shines through as absolutely gorgeous. No one in the industry, in my opinion, has a more warm or engaging smile than this woman. She was born to be a star, to bring her light to others. The way she "plays" with Jiminy shows her understanding of humor, and she's having fun. Well done.
This is great. This exchange could only come from two performers that have a long history. Most of the humor with others is in Jiminy’s ability to make the guest uneasy, but Catharine goes right at him, two masters of their craft.
She is absolutely one of the funniest women ever. Not to mention drop dead beautiful. Loved that night club type character she used to do on SCTV. I think it was Lola Heatherton.
i was surprised at how well kathy lee gifford rolled with the punches in her jiminy glick interview. i'd say she was a close second, behind catherine o'hara. they both had a really good time and it showed.
@@zubileegluckgluckYes, I was so impressed (and very pleasantly surprised) by Kathy Lee Gifford in her Jiminy bit. Maybe Jiminy reminded her of working with Regis!
I think, when all is said and done, that comedy energy is the best! Pure joy! (Wish there were, like, a thousand more SCTV episodes that were done and never got aired that we could all watch together as if the show was still new and being broadcast.
WOW! She jousted with him the entire time... This is what you get when two Improv comedy legends lock horns.... This was just amazing! I could use round two of these two!
It was real. I think the second fake one was added because they thought it would fly as comedy. Didn't make much sense but it was that or edit out the first. Although this whole segment is heavily edited.
When CH started with her story about JG’s review you can see that Marty was caught off guard. She was on offense throughout even though Short kept coming back.It was like watching a tennis match.
Short cracked her up with his impressions of her “Home Alone” character --- “You were like this big bull dyke. ‘Where's my kid? I gotta hit that plane!’”
Usually I'd think if any person I know acted like this to make people laugh, it would be to entertain being irresponsible or make someone nervous. But Short has real respect for his guests. He's a class act. He leaves me with a sense that irresponsible is not in fact what we want to be.
At first I was like '"How's Catherine going to react to him?" Then I remembered its Martin Short and they worked together for years. I understand that Catherine had a crush on Short before they worked together on SCTV. If theres any question, they're still very good friends and have worked together a few times since. O'Hara and Short have both made between 30-40 movies on their own. Short was/is also a highly acclaimed Broadway stage actor. Sadly, his wife died in 2010 of ovarian cancer. He has four adopted children. Catherine is married to three- time, oscar nominated production designer and director Bo Welch. They have two children together. Catherine could have been a star in any era. Beautiful, great timing, and hilarious.

Meh the lesbian thing missed and she talked a little too much
bullshit... it was all rehearsed.
“I’m feeling wood“… “I know you are!” 😂😂 She hits every pitch. These two together are priceless.
I adore how she comes right out with a fake backstory bit. She is incredible.
It’s called rehearsal

Seinfeld also gave him a run for his money.

Dennis Miller controlled the interview and it stunk; Her control was brilliant and audacious and funny.
You gotta remember she worked with Martin back in the early SCTV days. She knows what to expect.

Who's martin short?
Your totally right. You could tell because Martin started to get upset.
@@stephenstrang590 They both know each other from ages. They were in SCTV together. Thats why they have this chemistry

They are alumni from famous SCTV canada
This is like watching a comedy tennis match. These two pros are truly enjoying themselves and each other and they play this game of improv.
Only they were playing with 3 balls.
How do you not love Catherine Ohara? She and Andrea Martin were absolutely incredible on SCTV.

2:13 lmao "big bull dike. where's my kid, I gotta hit that plane"
Only Catherine O'Hara gets away with pulling focus in a Jiminy Glick interview to do bits. Splendid diva.
"Mrs. O'Hara clearly receivedfar too much encouragement from her lesbian parents to think she had any talent to share"
hahaha god that got me
The fact that she doesn't have lesbian parents put it over the top for me
Tee-hee
My only critique is that this didn't go on for a half hour.
If they just taped hours of them doing improv together, I'd pay for it at the price of a movie.
O'Hara seems like she would be fun to be around.
