“Shadow Dancing” was a big hit during the summer of 1978. I was a 22 year old black woman with a bad sense of rhythm and this song was guaranteed to always get me dancing on the dance floor. Andy Gibb was the perfect example of “blue eyed soul”. He had a beautiful voice and with his brothers (the Bee Gees) singing backup this song was a big hit during a summer that had so many good songs. People make fun of the disco era, but the late 1970s had the most amazing music.

"Desire" is the only song with all four brothers singing on it......although not together. The Bee Gees recorded it about 18 months earlier, did not release it, and then Barry dubbed his voice, and Andy's voice, onto it to release for Andy.

So danceable, yet there was so much emotion going on in the song too, that you had to take pause to just feel. I love it! It's my favorite song by Andy. Lyrics, music, harmonies, arrangement... EVERYTHING!!! But I loved everything Andy and Bee Gees, so... You have to give it to the brothers. They knew how to put together a song from head to toe. Their music has so many layers. They were MASTERS!!!

@JamelAkaJamel Andy Gibb was the baby brother. He was so talented. He had his own solo career this was his solo this was not done with the beegees as their band but I believe the brothers are on this one. He had many hits. Solo Career
I think he always wanted to be with his older brothers.
The brothers were in the background on this one they've seen together many times Andy I think always wanted to be a member of the actual main bee gees band. You could tell sometimes in the videos of documentaries that they did or interviews you could see almost a sadness in Andy. We're up with these guys and Andy was very talented but he also had issues and he had a broken heart. It's too bad it was a tragedy that he died so young. He was dating Victoria principal from the television show Dallas. he loved her he ended up with a bad drug problem and I believe he died of a heart attack.

My older sister had his album and we danced to this as preteens! What an innocent time. Listened to all types of music. Radio play R&B, pop, rock, country all on the same channel.

One of those miraculous collabs between Andy, his BG brothers, and Albhy Galuten, all of whom were the cogs of the machine that created all of the BG’s smashes on the “Saturday Night Fever” soundtrack. Pure solid gold DNA! They have us the grooves of good feelings. All geniuses. Andy…gone too soon! The song never gets old, you can play it hundreds of times, try it. Thanks for doing this one J!

Ah yes. My favorite Andy Gibb song. The Gibbs always did backup vocals for each other.
You'll see Andy on stage with them in the "You should be dancing" Bee Gees video. From the Saturday night Fever movie.

OMG I got the chills! And I remember almost every word after all these years. My pre-teenage heartthrob💓💓💓
Wasn't old enough to go out dancing but I had posters of him plastered all over my room and listened to this album for hours! Couldn't wait for the new Teen Beat and Tiger Beat magazines came out with more pictures of Andy🥰😍🤩🥰😍🤩

Barry said "Maurice & Robin are twins but Andy was mine". 😭 Tragic. He dated Victoria Principal of the show Dallas. He was madly in love and heart broken when they broke up. 💔 He dropped deeper and deeper into cocaine. The drug weakened his heart even more. He died of a virus inflammation of his heart. Barry was CRUSHED.

1978. This was the #1 song. The Brothers Gibb had 5 of the top 10 songs for the entire year #1 Shadow Dancing, #2 Night Fever, #4 Staying Alive, #6 How Deep is Your Love, and #8 (Love is) Thicker than Water. The last featured Joe Walsh on guitar. The Bee Gees also wrote 3 other songs that were in the top 20 performed by others that year: #11 Grease by Frankie Valli, #14 Emotion by Samantha Sang, and #19 If I Can't Have You by Yvonne Elliman. They dominated the year!

Written by The Bee Gees and the late Andy Gibb. Backing vocals by The Bee Gees.
Andy demonstrated that he could sing well like his brothers. 🤯
Andy was the youngest of them.
Suggested next video: I Want to Be Your Everything.
    RIP Andy Gibb.

I love seeing Jamel react because he takes in every bit of the song and comments at the perfect times. Shadow Dancing is the ultimate 70's disco love song because it's ultra dramatic and bad ass. I need my satin jacket and bell bottoms when this one's on. Every family gathering I dance and lip sync to this one and everyone is dancing by the end of it. (and laughing!)

Ahh back in the day, age 14, dancing and singing with friends, crushing on Andy! And put a beard on him, and he's Barry. Those two look more alike than the twins! Well, of course they're fraternal twins, but you know Barry and Andy were related. And we were all devastated and shocked when he passed. Continue to RIP Andy, Robin and Maurice!

Didn't realise until I started watching some reactors how big Andy Gibb was in the USA. He was well known in the UK, obviously with that name, but only had moderate success with his singles and never had a number one (two in USA) with only one song reaching the top 10! Just shows there's still some surprises left for us oldies who lived through this music.
