    Did mine yesterday. So the pieces you start welding at 7:40-8:00 ish and the lower front piece you add once you take if off is all one bent/ CAD formed piece now. Less welding but does make it a bit harder to line up and get a really tight fit on all touching pieces I think.
    If anyone else is watching this before you start yours keep that in mind. Make sure you get the winch plate and pieces #2 as straight and vertical as possible.

      I've welded a few new coastal bumpers and yes indeed, the middle is one piece now..... REMEMBER TO WELD IN SOME M6 NUTS WHERE THE PLATE MOUNTS! it'll save ya'll some frustration if you decide to mount the front plate

    Great job. Definitely going to buy one now. I'd like to add to your comment about grinding the exterior welds. It is absolutely possible to get a square corner, but the average person isn't capable and if they are they probably don't care that much. Thanks for the video!

      If you don't care why grind it at all.seems dumb to me.

      @@Colman.Automotive Hey, so I finished my Coastal FJ bumper but I'm having issues fitting the winch (Smittybilt x2o). Just wondering which winch you used in your setup and if you have to modify the bumper to make it fit?

    Colman - Looks great, thanks for making and posting the video! Now that you have had this on for a while, I'm curious to know if this has affected the cooling system - specifically airflow to the radiator?

    • @Colman.Automotive
      @Colman.Automotive  Год назад

      The factory toyota fan pulls so much air, never had it overheat with this bumper even at low speeds, no airflow, big incline crawling. The only time the FJ overheated was when I had mud stuck in the fins of the radiator

    Great job! It looks awesome! I’m going to weld up one of these for my buddy’s GX. It looked like you made a lot of single passes. Did you see any warpage? I was thinking I might need to alternate stitch welds to help prevent warpage. What do you think? Also, how did you get the interior part painted on the bottom of the bumper? I was thinking I might need to paint that interior part before I weld on the bottom outer flat plate. Thanks

    • @Colman.Automotive
      @Colman.Automotive  2 года назад +1

      I'm not a professional welder, barely a hobby welder haha, but you're right, don't lay long single passes. I tacked every piece and recall hearing some tacks snap/crack as I was welding so the metal did warp but never caused any problems with the final product. Paint the inside before welding the front piece, you can touch up the burnt paint through the side access holes afterwards. Good Luck!

    • @Colorado4x4
      @Colorado4x4 2 года назад

      @@Colman.Automotive thanks Coleman! I appreciate the tips, especially with painting the front lower part before you weld on that front piece! I think I’m going to tack it all up pretty good like you did, pull it off and then just take my time alternating welds. I think my buddy wants to get it powder coated so if he goes that route I think I should be able to weld on the front lower piece

  • @gonefishing8757

    Colman - I bought the bumper and am putting it together right now but the headlight support structure gets in the way of the wings. It looks like you just removed it so what’s holding the bottom of your lights in place? Did you fab a bracket?

    • @Colman.Automotive
      @Colman.Automotive  Год назад +1

      Ideally I'd try to fab a bracket. Because I have an intercooler behind the grill for the turbo, I have no room for any lower headlight or grill support. The entire assembly is simply resting on my intercooler piping with some thick rubber to prevent chafing

    My uncle has a welding machine he welds not very often how lomg do u think it would take him to do this and do you think it would be reasonable for me to ask him to do? Or is it pretty difficult

    • @Colman.Automotive
      @Colman.Automotive  2 года назад

      Its a pretty straightforward project, not too difficult, just time consuming. You want to make sure the welder has a decent duty cycle, I think you may run into circuit breakers popping constantly if you're using a regular 110v household plug.

  • @CDCFishingCrew

    What do you think is a fair price to have this done at a shop

    • @Colman.Automotive
      @Colman.Automotive  2 года назад +1

      You'll most likely be paying around 10-12hours in labour at whatever rate the shop decides to charge you + powdercoating costs
