Also, they made no reference to the difference between the terms Latino and Hispanic, they mean different things that can go together, but are not intercheangable for some people. Yeah, please don't ever refer to me as LatinX. I'm Latina (Mexican American) and I'd much rather be called a Mexican American. And yes, Spanish was my first language.
"Latino/Latina" and "Hispanic" are umbrella terms. Umbrella terms are no longer umbrella terms when you start specifying specific groups - fantasy is a part of fiction, not separate from it. "Latinx" also ruins the phonetics of Spanish. _The music of the language._ It's not "gender conforming". Even inanimate objects are given gendered -o/s and -a/s endings, although it is inherently understood that these objects are not tied to the genders assigned to them. For example, when someone says “los cubanos” an English speaker may instinctively interpret this as “the male Cubans,” but a Spanish speaker simply hears “the Cubans.” This applies to French and German as well - you don't hear "die Pizza" and "la pizza" to then translate them as "the female pizza." That's the issue (among others) with "Latinx". Just because a language is gendered does not inherently tie objects (pizzas) and groups (athletes) to gender norms. A basic misconception that people unfamiliar to gendered languages make is "masculine" and "feminine", and then thinking gender neutral forms must be added, when both masculine and feminine forms of the word are gender neutral by their very nature - it's just how the word fits in phonetically. Umbrella terms like "humanity", "athletes", et cetera do not need gender neutral variations because the word itself already includes people all across the spectrum as long as they meet the criteria (all humans fall under the term "humanity" whereas those who participate in sporting events can fit in with the term "athlete").
Fortunately we are becoming the minority. This is why they are freaking out. Like in Texas. Texas was stolen from Mexico. It’s only fair IMO. The indigenous people deserve their land back

What's the big deal if people don't want to this word? The Spanish language has been around for a long time, significantly longer than the "issue" of inclusive language. If spanish cultures don't want to adopt it, it's their choice.
"Latin-Ex" is not in any Spanish language dictionary that I am aware of, now or 40 years ago when I learned to speak it. It does not sound anything like the musical espanol that rolls off the tongue that we all know and love. It hurts my ears to hear it. No one in my spanish-speaking barrio uses it. "Latinos" is a legitimate spanish word and has no gender connotation one way or the other. Que vivan los hispanohablantes!
I think it's a little silly for news media (or anyone) to use the term Latinx to describe Latinos when that's not the word that most Latinos and Hispanics use to describe themselves.
I refuse to use the term Latinex other than to object to it (sounds too much like windex or kotex). My objection is that the Hispanic community, which is still waiting for their turn at being flavor of the month, is used as a repository for terminology that didn’t initiate in the Hispanic community. We are being used as fodder for other causes, without compensation. We didn’t choose the term “people of color,” because we believe that White is also a color, just like 20% of the white Latino community. Most Latinos self-identify with their ancestral homeland first before they say American. (Irishman and Italian are also self-identity terms used by other Americans.) Now we get hit with Latinex which is a reductionist term, consistent with the modern common urge to abbreviate every fifth word or to use acronyms. Most other ethnic communities would revolt if you applied an outsider term to their community. Rather than to explore who we are, we get hit with a label of convenience and placed in a cupboard till needed again for somebody else’s battles.
I am of Diné ancestry and it really irks me when Native/Indigenous/Aboriginal peoples are called “Indians.” We are not from India and are not the end result of Columbus’s miscalculation. Furthermore , we are not a monolithic people and identify through tribal affiliations and clans/kinships. To be clear, I am only speaking for myself but I believe it is important to use the names and terms peoples identify themselves with.
People from India are not called 'Indians', they are called Indiërs. This is a common mistake and because it's so common, you will see that they are usually defined as East-Indians to separate them from the native people of continental America. Native races from continental America are called Indians. Naturally the natives of that continent would have never been called Indians in the first place of Columbus hadn't sailed in the wrong direction, thinking he arrived in the Indies and had found Indiërs and people hadn't mistakenly began calling these people Indians.

We always had a gender neutral term in English. Its Latin. For example: Latin America. When speaking in English, the use of Latinx is unnecessary. While on the topic, The term was coined by the French to group a region on the Western Hemisphere where the primary languages are based in Latin due to colonialism. (Spanish, Portuguese, French) this is not a racial, ethnic description of the region just linguistic.
The term "Latin America" / "Latino/a" is actually NOT South American in origin. The "Latin America" label, as a concept, was created out of thin air by the French in the 1800s.

Also, they made no reference to the difference between the terms Latino and Hispanic, they mean different things that can go together, but are not intercheangable for some people. Did they bother to ask Brazilians, indigenous non-spanish speaking people or others how they feel about this? No. So no, Latinx is a terrible option to call people from Latin America. Latinx sounds quite clunky in Spanish too.
It doesn't sound right in English either.
Latin equis?
"Latino/Latina" and "Hispanic" are umbrella terms. Umbrella terms are no longer umbrella terms when you start specifying specific groups - fantasy is a part of fiction, not separate from it.
"Latinx" also ruins the phonetics of Spanish. _The music of the language._ It's not "gender conforming". Even inanimate objects are given gendered -o/s and -a/s endings, although it is inherently understood that these objects are not tied to the genders assigned to them.
For example, when someone says “los cubanos” an English speaker may instinctively interpret this as “the male Cubans,” but a Spanish speaker simply hears “the Cubans.” This applies to French and German as well - you don't hear "die Pizza" and "la pizza" to then translate them as "the female pizza."
That's the issue (among others) with "Latinx".

I think it's a little silly for news media (or anyone) to use the term Latinx to describe Latinos when that's not the word that most Latinos and Hispanics use to describe themselves.
It's LATINO. Period!!! It's easy to understand
Don't put your white labels on me okay
Please stop using Latinx. It is very disrespectful to call a community a name they refused to be called by.
