    Until nassar can break dance as good as Ilya he will always play second fiddle

      Imagine Ilya competing in the Olympic break dancing. That event is a meme imo but that would be a sight.

    Lasha has a better Sinclair than either of them. Lasha hasn’t lost since 2015 worlds, which is almost a decade. Lasha has snatched more than any human ever, and clean and jerked more on video in competition and in training than any human ever. Lasha is the GOAT.
    Carlos only has one gold medal in a level playing field. Ilya had 2. Ilya is still ahead of nasar for now

    • @donutpress1191
      @donutpress1191 3 месяца назад +4

      Agree, but this last Olympics really showed Lasha's dominance coming to an end. Gor and Lalayan were right on his tail and could have potentially beaten him. This obviously wasn't even a possibility a couple years ago in Tokyo. What Lasha has done as a super and how much he's evaluated that division is truly remarkable.
      I will say though, Ilya had to work harder for many of his wins in regards to the additional pressure of having better competition in his class. Both Lasha and Nasar are clutch, but they didn't have the competitors Ilya did and they weren't breathing down their back with every single made attempt like Ilya faced.

    It's Ilya. How is it even a question? You nailed it, the time component. It's way too early to crown Nasar

    Ilya also proved himself in 3 very competitive different weight classes over the years, hitting record numbers as an 85,94 and 105kg lifter. I’m not saying that Karlos doesn’t have the potential to do it, but he still has to prove himself

    I think I’d have to give the goat medal to Ilya based on his achievements in lifts. Going to be really interesting if Karlos decides to move up to 102 to find more competition, I think his c&j would sky rocket - would be very interesting to see how his snatch moved at higher BW as it’s already quite slow in comparison. Ilyas snatches never looked that much different through out his career

    If Karlos moves up too the 102kg category and gets a 246kg C&J or even 243kg to compensate for the 3kg difference between 105kg and 102kg categories then he is better than Ilya, until then Ilya is better and Karlos will have to move up, he's just gone 20 and will only put on more muscle and shouldn't restrict his max strength by staying at 89kg, he's a good bit taller than Ilya and can easily be a 102kg lifter

    If Karlos keeps up this trajectory without getting popped, he will likely become one of the greatest of all time but he's certainly not there yet. It's amazing how fast he got here but he's no Ilya just yet. He also has yet to surpass the best guys from the 82.5 class of old although he is getting close. End of the day though, Naim and Lasha are objectively the two greatest male weightlifters of all time, that's not a matter of opinion. Technically Naim is still the #1 all time but I consider those two practically equal after factoring in every variable.

    I think Karlos needs better competition. Currently he has become like Lasha where the rest of the weight class can’t keep up with him. We’re going to have to see what the future of 89kg looks like. Plus they might even completely change the weight classes again.

    I picked up weightlifting a Long time after the ilya era, so my personal opinon is that Karlos is better.
    But if you guys say that the exsitement Karlos gets into a competetion, that Ilya did that for over a decade, that must have been fun to watch!

    • @nikolascook8229
      @nikolascook8229 3 месяца назад

      Nassar C&J’d 224 @89. Ilya did 233 @94. Which was also 1kg higher than than best C&J of the weight class above him.
      Ilya also won worlds as an 85, 94, and 105.
      He won 2 Olympic golds.
      He clean and jerked 246kg as a 105kg lifter.
      Nassar hasn’t even come close to Ilya’s “greatness.” Yet.

  • @makeascene1587

    As good as Karlos is, it’s way too soon to be making comparisons to Ilya. Ilya’s lifts were aesthetically way for pleasing also. Still, Karlos is an exciting guy to watch and has the potential to be a great in his own right.

  • @bulletproof_ben
    @bulletproof_ben 3 месяца назад

    i think the reason Karlos has so much potential is his snatch, Ilya never set a snatch world record while Karlos is right there, and they both have the jerk to win no matter what. The time issue is there, don't get me wrong, but I think Karlos only needs a snatch world record and a couple more years to surpass Ilya in my books.

  • @marcosmarroquin9312
    @marcosmarroquin9312 3 месяца назад +1

    Absolutely absurd. Not only did Ilya dominate, he dominated in 3 different weight classes. Has never lost or bombed out unlike Karlos. And if we just use the good ol’ eye test, just look at Ilya snatch and clean and jerk and peep the beauty of his movement. Karlos is very powerful but he doesn’t have that beauty or finesse in his lifts. Keep my goats name out ur mouth pls

  • @jacobmason412
    @jacobmason412 3 месяца назад

    Ilya, not even close, I don't even think the 224 is comparable to the 246, I think 228-230 at 89 would probably surpass the 246, but whether we'll ever see him pushed at international competition to that extent I doubt, possibly just him yoloing at bundesliga

    It's like the Michael Jordan and Lebron debate.. MJ went to the NBA finals 6 times and won every single final. Lebron has been to 10 finals and only brought back 4 rings.
    Iyla's track record is going to be hard to beat. If Nasar can go back to back as much as Iyla, fair points of contention, but its worth mentioning Iyla didn't have gorilla mode and he was fueling with pure adrenaline at the time, absolute dog.

    If Karlos competes and wins as a 96 and 102 (which he absolutely can, given he would've already medaled as a 102 with his total at Paris with an extra attempt left), and he wins two more Olympic golds, he'll surpass Ilya for sure.

    • @carpetgymolylifting

      Ilya could clutch against nasar in both their primes 100%

    • @JoseTorres-to3ji
      @JoseTorres-to3ji 3 месяца назад +2

      Did you watch the 102s session or just the results and went “oh yeah Karlos would have medaled”? The 102s just missed their heavier attempts lolz. Plus they had more pressure than Karlos because there was more competition in the 102s.

    • @hookgrip4jesus310
      @hookgrip4jesus310 3 месяца назад

      @JoseTorres-to3ji Yup. Heaviest snatch attempt was 189; heaviest make was 186. Karlos is knocking on the door of those numbers-he did 185 in the training hall a few days before the comp. The top C&J make was 220, with the top attempt at 233. Karlos has cleaned 230 a dozen times at this point and jerked 226 at Bundesliga. So yes, he would have absolutely taken a medal at 102, no questions asked.

    • @hookgrip4jesus310
      @hookgrip4jesus310 3 месяца назад

      @JoseTorres-to3ji 1. "The 102s just missed their heavier attempts." No shit. Hence, Karlos medals (silver) with his total, and could have even went for gold (theoretically) because he had one more attempt. That was the entire point I was making. I'm not concerned with hypotheticals, because, well, they aren't the reality of the matter.
