You were only 12 miles from me. If I'd known you were going to be here, I'd have meet up with you there and took you on a tour of all the things that the general public can't access. I worked there for a few years when I was in high school and for the summer after I graduated. I worked in the roundhouse as assistant to the master mechanic and got paid to rebuild, restore, and maintain the rolling stock. They had two steam engines running at that time, which were so much fun to work on and with. Wish I'd have known you were there. Hope you enjoyed the visit.

i flew in a two seater once- i would describe the experience as "harrowing." they get tossed around by the wind too much. my goodness even a glimpse of those Southern engines is magic :)
Never been in anything that small…flew in a friend’s Cessna and he let me pilot once off the ground…if you ever down that way you gotta stop in…thanks for watching John…

The purple ACL is an E6. The Southern 6900 is an E8. All the machines in the machine shop in the roundhouse painted gray is my handy work from 2001. And they all work and I've seen steam locomotive parts made and fixed on them.
An E6, wouldn’t have got that one right…thanks for the info…did you put any hidden secret messages somewhere while you were painting those machines? 😂😂
The private observation passenger car you were looking at was the Doris Duke car. Doris Duke as in Duke power. One more interesting thing, something about my family, I had a great ×3 uncle that worked there as a master machinist in the backshop, the large building you went in first. He started at 12 years old, sweeping and retired from Southern RR. I wish I'd known him as an adult, but he died when I was around 10. I'd love to have talked to him about steam engines and his life there at Spencer Shops.
The Dukes traveled in style 😊…cool having family members with “rags to riches” stories…lots of knowledge and wisdom to be gained…I had an uncle that started working in a Proctor & Gamble warehouse in Augusta, Ga shelving products and rose to VP of their far eastern division…
Hi Anthony, that's a pretty cool place. It looks like you went at an off time. It didn't look like there was many people around. I'm kind of surprised that they didn't have signs to tell you what any of their equipment was locomotives passenger cars looks like a cool place. Thanks for the tour. I wonder if those Auto racks are the ones that fold down in the sides where they put the cars vertical.
It is a cool place to visit…Friday morning about 11:00…didn’t post half the stuff…video would be too long…none of the outdoor stuff was marked well, even some indoor stuff but, still a neat place…would go back…no clue about the racks…
So many museums out there each with their gems. This is one that I shall certainly never get to see, so thank you for showing me around Anthony.

Great place. About 45 minutes away from me. Used to have a great train store close by but closed recentlly. Nice video !!!!
