- Scotland 1-1 Switzerland. Steve Clarke's men needed a response after a devastating defeat to Germany, and a point against the Swiss keeps their Euro 2024 dream alive going into the final round of group games.
But for all the talk of mental preparation, it was actually a subtle but important tactical tweak to their set-up that had them looking much better in this game. Adam Clery explains exactly how they did it.

Still wouldn't have 6'4 goal scoring threat Scott McTominay taking corners.
Manuel Akanji deserves so much more love. Warrior that guy
I was royally pissed off at him last night. Fucking hated seeing him pop up everywhere. Great player.
He still has nightmares about Ryan Kent tho
@@lukewarmape603he was man of the match (officially)
Scotland need to play an aggressive and in your face style of football. Make every team dread having to play us. That's how we beat Spain 2-0.
Scotland marked Xhaka out of the game which takes all the control from Switzerland, suddenly the short pass combinations don't work anymore without Xhaka controlling it from the base.
I was really surprised at how effectively we took Xhaka out of the game
Mc Tominay
It’s gonna be interesting to see how Scotland does in the final match against Hungary. I can see it being a more open game, but will they be able to cut out the goal scares that happened against the Swiss?
I thought one of the simplest and most effective changes Scotlsnd made was shoving Robertson high when building from the back so they became a back four against the front three of the Swiss, and always had a spare man. This gave them a level of control of the ball that they never had against Germany. Especially as they calmed things down before half time.
the little animation showing how he miscounted scotland players was funny enough to deserve his own comment 😄😂🙂🤗
Great video again.
I'm a little unsure that Tierney going off is what kicked Scotland into a more aggressive gear. I suspect it's a time thing (65-70 minute mark). They tried to do the same against Germany but only had 10 men. Walter Smith did the same thing with Scotland and in his 2nd spell with Rangers. It's like Scottish football's version of 'Rope-a-dope'.
Can't be too defensive v Hungary.
Looking forward to your analysis of how Scotland should approach the Hungary game. Steve Clarke is too I'm sure!
if the schedule isn't planned out already could you make a video about belgium after the game saturday? i'd love to better understand tedesco's system
So wholesome, the rest of content is full of ads
Ralston made a terrible stupid error, but its probably worth mentioning that Hickey made some pretty dumb mistakes for Scotland too 😅
It was a horrific pass back but Hanley and Hendry switched off just as he made it, either could have grabbed it if they were concentrating on the ball. And more importantly if Hanley was more central. Hanley was far too close to Hendry and it distracted them both, imo it’s harsh to fully blame Ralston here.
@@lukewarmape603 The positional sense from hendry and hanley was shocking and they were just ball watching instead of dropping to receive the back pass. Having said that a better player than Ralston will have seen this and dealt with the situation differently.
If Ralston makes that pass (as he is trained to do) at Celtic, Carter Vickers is positioned to receive it. Handley first mistake is firing it under no pressure at Gilmore's midriff and then ball watching instead of dropping back 5 yards for the angle.
@lukewarmape603 more importantly still, you wouldn't usually expect the attacker to just pop it perfectly into the top corner from that range without a touch
the comedy is sublime
I hope the Hungarians aren't watching this
Hickey is not that good he cant get forward cant cross and is average at defending there
Aye, people make out like we've lost cafu. Hickey really isn't that great. Patterson looked a better prospect before dyche got his hands on him.
stutdy break hype 442
Good analysis im impressed, Scott McKenna is not Tierney but is a good player in his own right
I hope he doesn’t play Ralston. He’s only played nine games for Celtic this season. Against the likes of Livingston Dundee Motherwell ST Johnstone etc etc. out of his depth at international level. It was there for all of us to see. Clark should play someone who’s played more games. Other than nine. Embarrassing. Look what he did against Switzerland.
Ralston is utterly shambolic
Would’ve beaten them if Ralston wasn’t on… absolutely mince him shouldn’t have even been in the team.
The swiss had two goals chopped off and missed three sitters. We were lucky to get a draw. Ralston isnt good enough, who would you play there instead?.
@@jackjones1249 that’s the unfortunate thing about it. There isn’t really anyone fit enough to replace him. A real shame about Hickey. Although I think Stephen Kingsley could probably do a better job even though he’s a lb/cb.
The centre backs should have been behind him to accept the pass. Bad positioning. Obvious but not for those who believe everything in the mainstream.
@@jamestyler12JT Thats the problem people are mentioning players that arent really any better than Ralston. Armstrong of killie is potentially another one but its all just guess work.
@@jackjones1249 exactly it’s a shame
Scotland is about to finish with 1 point and my dude is going to keep making videos about how good Scotland is.
And we will be laughing when England get knocked out in th e round of 16 when they meet a decent team. England playing boring shit football. Win or lose we play with passion with the best fans in the world behind them.
It's possible but if we get through its happy days. If you do anything less than win it all it's never happy days.
England will get to the quarters and my dude is going to keep making videos about how shite England are
holy shit scotland went to war against the suisse
Shame on Scotland, the so-called ''bravehearts'' held to a draw by a bunch of Swiss clock-watchers Hahaha went to war did they ??
Haggis 1-1 Fondue. Lol
the fact you kept in Adam's long example about the wrong movie is why I love this channel
Really excellent video. Thanks.
So frustrating that Clarke left it to like the 89th min before bringing on Shankland and Forrest. Not saying either of them would have beaten Akanji had they been on the end of that cross, but would have been nice to at least give them a chance
3:14 I can confirm that we refer to our system as "Terrorball"
I wonder whether there can be a video that says ‘the clever tactical change that helped England’ not while Southgate’s in charge there won’t
no fixes tonight :(
Oops...
Uh huh
I'd like to see Kenny McLean earlier, I think he could give more of a goal threat.
study break lets goo,
also am I going crazy or is there faint music playing in the background
