SHOCKED to see X-ribs on the QST rebars in this animated video. The 2001 standard ACI 408.3-01/408.3R-01 states "Reinforcing bars with X and diamond deformation patterns are excluded from this standard because their bond properties are markedly lower than bars with parallel ribs." Additionally it adds "Also, X pattern bars are not allowed in the Canadian Code (CSA 1992) because Canadian bond pullout tests on X pattern bars gave significantly lower strengths than did parallel rib bars." It seems that in India, "anything goes". For example Europe did not allow use of CTD bars since 1972 whereas in India these CTD rebars under brand name of "Torsteel" ruled the market till 2002. For 30 years only rebars of yield stength 415 were used - until Grade 500 QST rebars became popular after they were introduced at Durgapur and Bhilai Steel Plants of SAIL. ' Grade 500 became the norm only AFTER the structural engineers were "educated" about the ill-effects of CTD rebars in the famous 2003 International Conference of ICACI "Reinforcement Steel - Today and Tomorrow".
Raj Kumar Markan. Rightly said. Any thing will go here. Site control is almost zero. Illiterate work force does no technical aspects of construction . only god can save us and our homes
