I literally grew up in studios and rehearsal halls. I would work at a large studio again , but only because the artist hired me directly for head engineering / production. Im building my house out to be an atmos studio soon.
THIS was such a good change of pace. Every single person had such amazing personalities! You might need to consider making studio staff interviews part of every episode because there was something special about putting a small spotlight on these folks to share where they're from and what they do & I personally love hearing from the people bts. Great episode today Andrew!
Having been a teacher at a major recording school for many years, it’s very refreshing to see female engineers finally appearing on the scene! Three at one studio; they must be doing something right.
Ya know what AM, I reckon this is the best one ever!! So candid and totally reminds me of my journey. I’m 53 now and remember the slog going through live sound and touring production, to landing a really cool studio/ advertising gig. Learning tape, analog workflow with video (yeah UMAT), tape sync and all the amazing client interaction…… there;’s no better way, than to hit the ground running in the real world. We’ve got the best gear available to everyone now, but you cannot replace the learning from our amazing mentors and the accidents along the way!!
This is a really fun video to watch. I enjoyed listening to their diverse set of stories as well as being thoroughly amused by the witty sense of humor that flowed throughout.
I would LOVE to see a video of you talking about your take on working at commercial studio vs a home studio. I'm at a somewhat awkward junction myself. I love the studio I work at but I fully intend on mostly working from home in the future
Very cool, sounds like 6 months ago they graduated the old class and brought in the all new class, fresh blood!! Excellent change of pace, not to take away from the tour’s per say, just dig the perspective of those working in and around the studio environment!! Thanks!!!
Man I love seeing this. I’m almost at a year as a runner at a big commercial studio in LA as well. This gives me some more hope that I’ll be able to get more into the sessions
That was fascinating. I spent time working in a commercial studio in Dallas - but like most commercial studios outside LA and Nashville, it went under. I’m always interested in what’s going on in the big studios these days in the time of the great home studio boom (Since CV19). Thanks for sharing this. I watched the whole video with a smile. (My cheeks are cramping, thanks) Liked and subbed … and rang the bell. Great content, man.
If you're from Peoria, you may have heard of Geneseo, that's where I'm from...I'm surprised to hear big studios are still hiring people. I thought it was always only by knowing friends of friends of friends that you could get a job in one of the big studios.
Nah you can. The truth is you've gotta to start at the very bottom (in most cases) and a lot of people aren't willing to do that. It's not the only way but a lot of very successful producers and engineers came up through commercial studios.
OMG! you made me LOL so LOUD.....this ending was so good! #"Which compressor is better the Fairchild or the GML" Funny stuff and great video as always ! Cheers my friend!
Olivia, when you get back to cincy look me up and run my studio for me please and let me jam!!! ! Ill jam you record. I have all the toys. East side little miami 50 west! Cheers
Hey Andrew, I wonder why you are not still working at EW? Don't answer. Of the people you interviewed you speak far better English and project considerably better confidence. Which equals far better "hang". If any of that is important to you, I would contact every artist manager and see about matching up with them. The fact that Sweetwater values your association while you are still growing your channel speaks volumes. Good luck and shoot high. Also, how many studio tours can you do before you and the listener has "seen it all?" You have a very good future.
Your logo looks like a Freemasons logo, Even if I was surrounded by all that gear I'd still just make all the music and produce it on a laptop, reaching over that SSL would do My back in.
Hey Andrew, I've seen you going to places and showing everyone's studios and having multiple discussions, etc., but do you play as well? I do noticed you have a lot equipment, but I don't see anything about you if you play, right? Sorry I'm just curious.
I don’t show a lot of it because I’m certainly not a pro player. That being said there are tons of videos on the channel of me playing. Perhaps you don’t click on those videos so you don’t see them? The tours get the most clicks so there’s a good chance that’s why. There’s a playlist on the channel called make more music, check it out.
Hey everyone I’m a junior in HS at the moment and am looking to go to recording school but also be able to branch out and study some business topics and concepts. Could y’all drop some schools that you’ve either heard about or gone to, and does anyone have any advice for me at this point? I’ve been running my bedroom studio for about a year now and have recorded my band many times now.
Oh man, a fellow Ohio dweller. I'm from the Cleveland region and idk, she should be use to the nuthouse driving...maybe not so much the traffic jams and such. Haha. I would love to move out west, but the wife is against it. Haha.
It appears that if someone wants to succeed in the production end of recording or live sound, you must have a presence in LA and the Valley, Nashville and Berry Hill or New York. Competition will be high but way better than the uphill swim from any other location. Your goal should be to buy houses or you are just giving it away.
@@nilesanders5110 Yea, that’s why I decided after my graduation I wanna work to move my family towards Nashville. She was okay with moving in that general location. Haha. Personally I’d enjoy living near LA, I have friends in bands from that area. The cost of living would suck, but we’d manage. Haha.
You do realize black folks are only 12% of the population? But I didn’t see any concern for the lack of Asian, Latin or Native American people either so your weirdly placed righteousness in a quick video, not even showing everybody who works there, is almost amusing if you weren’t pathetic. If he had toured a studio in Atlanta and it was ONLY black people, would you have wondered where people of other races are? F off with that nonsense.
I interned at a big fancy studio while in school. All I can say is that the vibe was as stiff as a doctors office, horribly toxic, and the music was basically just for elevators and commercials. I don't care about working in a "fancy studio" ultimately being a producer these days is about what you can do, not where you're doing it.
I've worked both home studios and commercial studios, would you want to work in a studio like this?

Happy to see Will on here! His content on TikTok and Instagram is super inspiring all the time
This was a nice add to the full EastWest video tour. Thx!
Thanks, I'll probably do more in the future - had to get that studio tour done right first!
Love the relationship with you and the last guy so genuine ! Like brothers !
everyone at east west was BAKED lol
Of course I want to see a video about the pros/cons/strategies to working at a big studio
The last interview was perfect 😂
Everybody sounds "baked"...
This put a smile on my face, lol! Salute!!
Mixerman is a great book about how studios, labels and bands operated in the olden days.
This is a really fun video to watch. I enjoyed listening to their diverse set of stories as well as being thoroughly amused by the witty sense of humor that flowed throughout.
Thanks Laney!
Id like to see the pros and cons about working in a studio and all that jazz!✌🏽
Going to the CRAS Open House this Saturday to see if it's right for me... makes me so stoked to see a handful of alumni at a studio as great as this!
"I'm duct-taping your zoom" - Hank Hill. Lol love these videos man! Cool hanging out with old work friends for sure!
So fun seeing a bunch of cras grads in this video. Loved that school and miss some of those dudes. Glad to see they're doing well

Please stop the finagling with the zoom. It's very annoying. Love your interviews, but your camerawork needs work. Settle down.
