"And now we go to Darth Vader reporting live from Baghdad..."
Best. Comment. Ever.
I just spit coffee out my NOSE laughing at that !! Thanks !!
Doesn’t Lord Vader work for CNN?
...do it live.
Darth Vader: (haaaallll-hrrrrrrrrhhh) "Good evening, Brian. With great sadness and heavy-heartedness, I report to you all, that the chimes of history, ring throughout the streets of Baghdad today, as the merciless regime of Saddam Hussein has come to an end."
You know something just went down or is going down if this gets played on NBC. Gives chills!
At least if it’s not Sunday
The ooh shit theme lol
Yup. If this plays, someone was unalived, we’re at war or someone big just got indicted.
And now… someone was found guilty!!
As of September 28, 2022, this theme still goes hard.
October 2, 2023, it indeed still goes hard!
Remember-- if it's Sunday, it's Meet The Press! Go Buffalo Bills!
We miss ya, Timmy. More than you could ever know.
The best "Shit Just Got Real" music.
LOL!! So true... The best, "Breaking News if you believe it or not, it's coming for you mothafucka" music.
Agreed. This theme song told you that shit was really going to go down.

Did Brian or Tom announce Tim russerts death?
This is also used for breaking-news special reports.
This is an NBC special NEWS REPORT:
Good Evening, I'm Tom Brokow. We're live from the Death Star reporting on the tragic loss of Alderaan this morning.
:'(
Best news theme ever by the great John Williams.
The guy is more Midas touch that just about any man I can think of. If I was going to Vegas I would want him or Jordan to blow on the dice.
John Williams is epic.
It transcends being just a news theme. Just an amazing piece of music...and it's only 1:30 long! Just a testament on Mr. William's gifted artistry.
Wait?! JOHN WILLIAMS?!!! The guy who did the Star Wars themes? Now I understand why NBC has the best themes.
@@alstewart5870 Yes, it is an amazing piece of music, but this 1; 30 long bit is actually just the last movement of a longer piece John wrote for NBC called the "Mission Theme," and it's about 10 minutes long in full I believe, the opening movement is used for the NBC nightly news. But yes, the opening and closing movements are the best which is why NBC uses them.
From NBC News in Washington... The World's Longest-Running Television Program... This is Meet the Press.

Every time there's a special report...
...the chimes of death ring once again.
It literally makes me jump.
John Williams is a God in the Musical Universe.
Period.
If it's Sunday, it's Meet the Press.
If it's any time, it's something serious happens.
Like the death of someone prominent, or the president declaring war.
@@seangutierrez1337 or during trumps presidency whenever he did something stupid
@THE_flushingtoilet: After a while, the non-stuff just got real music was fine. He did so many things, ranging from dumb to “WTF were you thinking?! Were you thinking at all?!!”
All the great memories of the late great Tim Russert! One of the best newsmen ever! He is deeply missed even 12 years after his sudden passing. May he rest in peace in the glory of God!
Now it’s been 14 years! Scary how time flew
He was at least more objective than Chucky Todd ever was!! Rest in peace !
We lost Tim 10 years ago on this day. RIP.
When you hear this, you know some serious shit is going on.
LMFAO.... TRUE DAT
In memory of the late, great NBC Washington Bureau Chief and Moderator of Meet the Press........ Tim Russert. Thank you for being a giant in the news business, a fair and balanced reporter and the longest serving moderator of Meet the Press. You are greatly missed and won't be forgotten. Rest in Peace Tim and thank you!
Tim was the Best 👍
This piece of music was played at the beginning of the Specal Report when Tom Brokaw delivered the news about Tim Russert passing on that June Friday afternoon in 2008
Best news theme ever.
Glad this music is kept with at least some respect rather than playing it every time "BREAKING NEWS" comes up.
You know it's breaking news if you hear the NBC Chimes right before you hear this.
When you hear this, you stop whatever you're doing and pay attention. The chimes followed by this theme means something important happened or is about to happen.
Eric Maltbia do you remember if it was Brian Williams or Lester holt who announced Tim russerts death back in 08?
It was Tom Brokaw
LLD Productions why him and why couldn’t they have gotten someone else besides him to do it also?
He was a close friend of Tim Russert, the face of NBC during the era Russert was prominent in, and it just felt the most natural at the time. Only made sense.
LLD Productions i think Tom Brokaw took over snow for the rest of 2008 I think and it must have been a long time ago when brokaw did that now also?
I became aware of politics during the Iraq war, and that's when I was first watched meet the press and would hear this kickoff to the program where it did indeed feel like they were reporting on some Star wars-level saga of the empire striking back In a worldwide war on terror. Felt super important.
This played when the Gulf War started, when any former POTUS died, when the Berlin Wall fell, and when a certain former POTUS got indicted.
Hopefully we never ever have to hear this after the theme:
And we break in to regular programming to report that nuclear weapons have been used in combat for the first time since World War II...
That or
This just in, the International Space Station has been destroyed by an explosion. Sources confirm a mysterious object has appeared from behind our moon and is on an intercept course with Earth...
@@royals1231 that would be catastrophic.
(Howard Reig)"This is an NBC News Special Report, here is Lester Holt"
You won't get another voice like Howard Reig's.
How old was Tom brokaw in the video where he announced tim russerts death anyway?
That's pure John Williams stuff. He has now wrote the newest themes for NBC News from Fall 1985-present. Starting with "Meet the Press" followed by "Today" and "NBC Nightly News" featuring the theme song, "The Mission". As well as both for Universal Pictures and NBC Universal Television. That's why he's one of the best and got the Midas touch.
I remember the NBC chimes, and this music when 9/11 happened. I was a senior in high school. Im almost 40 now, and every time I hear this music, my blood runs cold for a split second.
OMG!!! Hard to believe that we lost Tim russert 15 years ago this past June 13th, 2023!!! Crazy how time flies!
Hey got their "check the box" replacement for little Chuck.
Reminds me of the great Tim Russert!!! R.I.P. to one of America's greatest journalists...
+Daniel Berger indeed he was about as close as you'll ever get to an objective pundit.
YEP!!!
Why would his best friend take over the show anyway?
I remember when NBC broke into programming to announce his death.
If there was ever a ringtone for the hotline at 3am, this should be it.
If it's Sunday, it's Meet the Press
Rest In Peace, Mr. Tim Russert
Growing up in the early 2000s and hearing this theme regularly over combat footage from Iraq and Afghanistan with Tim Russert's commentary/intro had me glued to the tv on Sunday mornings like any cartoon the previous day. There was something about it all that was so awesome and terrible at the same time.
nyyfanvkamath do you remember who took over the show after his death that year?
Listening away from the TV, it sounds like sci-fi music from some grand space adventure. No wonder - John Williams wrote this just 8 years after his music for the first star Wars saga. JW is an American Treasure!
I've been searching for this one for a while and could never seem to find it here. Thanks for posting it. John Williams is a God when it comes to composing themes. This music give me shivers up the spine because of not only its seriousness, but because it also has a sweeping melody.
There's no one like him.
Whenever I hear this on TV, I automatically think, "oh man, someone's dead."
lmao, Unfortunately yes, or something got blown up. Main use for breaking news from NBC
MorphingMaster Sounds almost like something that would be played in Star Wars.
Composer is the same composer from Star Wars lol John Williams
Same.

Thanks so much for posting this.
I've always love this theme. a great piece of music.
And I too miss Tim Russert. A man with a heart of gold.
If you'd listen closely, you will hear traces of this music used a little later in the auto chase music from the opening title/prologue sequence of "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade."
Part IV, -a most stirring variation of "The Mission". Thank you John!

This is awesome. First time I heard it I thought it was by one of the old composers. Didn't realize it is relatively new. Beautiful and driving.
Yup, John Williams' music can seem that way sometimes, they're modern classics.
Just don't confuse Karl Jenkins' Palladio with Mozart. If you don't know what I"m talking about, look up Palladio here on YT, you'll probably recognize the song, and it was written in the '90s, making it relatively new.
Oh, and the song is also "beautiful and driving, And remember, A diamond is forever.

This theme song was my pre NFL Sunday vibe my dad would always have it on in the morning before the games came on
...I love this piece!
THIS TAKES ME BACK IN TIME!
I was 5 years old when 9/11 happened, and I heard this play when they were showing the 2nd plane going into the second tower. Ever since, I get scared paranoid thinking some bad has happened when NBC plays this, and I'm 16.
If you didn't live through the 80's and/or Cold War, you have no idea what type of feelings of panic this theme would cause.
Funny you should mention that...
@@thattechdude Yeaaahh.... I'm just gonna keep my trap shut now. Sorry. Sorry everyone.
This aged like old milk.
I wasn't here during the Cold War, or when the Wall came down, the big Crash of 87, or Desert Storm.
But I was here days after Nixon died, the Clinton-Monica Lewinsky scandal, the Oklahoma City Bombing, Columbine High, 9/11 ... And all of those were in that Tim Russert era and thank God I was here every Sunday. God Bless Tim Russert.
