Maybe there's other faster drummers out there, but IMO Mario DuPlantier has one of metal's ultimate combinations of power, precision and chops WHILE playing fast. I don't think I've come across many other drummers in these genres at this skill and speed without also sacrificing power. With his formal training, who knows, even Buddy Rich might have been be impressed. Part of me wonders why drummers who play this type of music even bother soloing. I always thought musicians solo was more of a way to show off or play in a way people otherwise don't get to hear. With Matt, it's more like that one gets to just hear him do what he already does anyway, just without that pesky wall of guitar chords!
